The house has a lovely terrace with a BBQ and a panoramic view of the vines and the surrounding countryside. In season you can pick your own fruit about 1Km from the house. The nearby village of Bize Minervois offers a local market and grocery/bakery & shopping. The area is picturesque with the Cesse river offering the opportunity to swim as an alternative to the pool. There are beautiful Cathare Chateaux to visit. It is well situated between the Mediteranean sea and the Pyrenees offering a broad choice of Entertainment for holidaymakers. Nearby Narbonne has a great historical wealth and there is a golf course at Carcassonne. Le Somail, a small village of artists is situated nearby on the Canal du Midi, where you can take a boat trip or hire a boat to drive yourself. You can do as many wine tastings as there are days in the week!! In nearby Garenne there is music in the evenings, where you can eat, drink, dance and sample the local flavour. Horse-riding is available, payable locally. Also in the area you can paraglide, visit the beautiful beaches, make nice walks, go to vide greniers (car boot sales), go fishing (for river fishing you meed a permit, payable locally) but sea fishing is free. In the local village, Bize Minervois the river Cesse has been rerouted to create a swimming basin with a beach on either side. There are restaurants, bars and shopping in the village. There is also a library, cinema, and all facilities. In the local pub oysters, cheese and cooked meats are available every Wednesday and Friday evenings. You can eat there in the ambience of a real French pub, with wine and drinks of your choice, or you can have a "takeaway". Taxi service is available by the owners.
Arriving after a long journey on the Saturday we were greeted by Nadege, Albert and their friend Rita and were immediately made to feel at ease. Rita, hailing from Dublin, told us lots about the house and surrounding area, and despite my strong Glasgow accent, we still communicated just fine with Nadege and Albert.
The gite and pool are both great. The gite is next door to Nadege and Albert’s home, and they not only made us feel very welcome, but you knew that if you would ever have needed help with anything, you would have got it, which really helped put us at ease.
The pool was large and warm – enjoyed it more than any other pool we’ve had on holiday. The pictures undersell the gite – it’s larger than they suggest. The Wifi made the kids happy.
The gite is very well set up – we ate out sometimes (good nearby restaurants) but also enjoyed cooking and eating, relaxing in the garden – everything you need is there if you don’t want to eat out all of the time.
We were invited to Albert’s birthday party, we felt like we had known everyone for years, despite only really just having met. A really, really friendly bunch all round.
A big thank you to everyone for making this such and enjoyable, memorable holiday.
I would say that if you are thinking of booking with Nadege and Albert, stop thinking and just book.
Hope to see everyone again in the not too distant future – thank you so very much.
C'est beau! Arriving towards the end of the season, we found the property in an immaculate state, in a great location, and had great facilities on site. The owners were warm and polite, offering us lots of local information and advice to improve the quality of our stay. The oyster night at the local bar ( a 3 minute walk away) will forever be one of the many lasting happy memories of our holiday. If you are really lucky, Nadege will offer you some homemade limoncello and delicious fig bread! The pool is a great depth to suit all heights and is a great place to cool off in the sun. An added and much appreciated bonus was the air conditioning in the house, this helped us all sleep in the late August heat. Thank you to Alberto, Nadege and Oyster night friends for a lovely holiday. We will definitely try to come back sometime. Au revoir.
We were pleasantly suprised to arrive a little bit later than expected and be welcomed by Albert and Nadege who were very accomodating. A bottle of wine from the local vineyard helped us unwind.
After being shown around the bungalow they let us settle in while they went and arranged for an evening meal at the Auberge de la Sallette within walking distance. A welcome meal out after two days driving.
The cottage all on one level was brilliant as my wife has trouble with stairs. Recently built it was in excellent condition and everything you needed had been included. Clearly Albert and Nadege were very proud of their cottage and did everything they could to make our stay perfect.
The pool was lovely and cooling on the very hot days and again Albert was on hand to show us how the massage function worked, great for those aching backs and sore limbs.
It was a short walk to Bize Minervois up the way which is a lovely little village. Try Cafe du Midi for an authentic French restaurant, book early for a table outside as it was very busy on the Friday night when we went.
We were pleasantly suprised to be invited to a local family with Albert and Nadege for Apperetif that turned into a wonderful evening out with fireworks at Bize minervois to end Bastille day.
The weather in this area seems like it has its own micro climate and we were treated to every day being 30c or above. Eating outside is the normality later in the evening when the heat has slightly cooled and the rosé in the wine bag cools you from the inside too.
I will say for us this place was perfect though some might find it a little remote, but with only 20km to Narbonne and 50km to Carcassone there is plenty to do.
I will definitely be going back to this place with an attempt at 3 weeks next year.
The beautiful beaches of Gruissan, Narbonne Plage and St. Pierre are all about 45 minutes by car.
Carcassonne Airport 60 Kms. Perpignan 70 Kms. Montpellier 100 Kms. Béziers 30 Kms. Gerona 180 Kms.
Bize Minervois 1.5 Kms. Narbonne 15 Kms. Béziers 30 Kms.
There are loads of things to do and see while on holiday in this beautiful region. There are the famous Cathare Chateaux, Carcassonne being one which has been respectfully restored and you can enjoy a visit into the past. Narbonne is 15 Kms and is steeped in european history. Le Somail is a local village well known for its local artists and boat trips on the Canal du Midi. Spain is not far and you can visit Le Pertus which is a tax free area. The Pyrenees are beautiful for walking touurs and also for their breathtaking scenery.
