About Samantha Storer
I live in England with my Husband and Daughter who is aged ten years . My Husband and I have a passion for Crete, we have been visiting the island for the last twenty years, after lots of searching we have found the perfect spot to share with others. We have made many freinds over the years of visting the island, now Crete for us feels like our second home, we spend as much of the school holidays here as we can and our daughter is picking up the language which is great.
Samantha Storer purchased this Villa in 2015
Why Samantha Storer chose Apokoronos
The house is so much part of the real Crete, just away from the main Tourist areas but oh so far, you can't help but relax and switch off when you stay in Melidoni, locals going about local business with not a tourist in sight, mix with them and embrace the way to live, the diet, the social scene, the culture!
What makes this Villa unique
Peace and quiet apart from birds, goat and sheep bells, with the most amazing views. Blue sky, chill out by the private swimming pool, gardens to match, fantastic views, night time sky is second to none with the Milky Way looking it's finest, shooting stars galore, soak it up it really is a special place.

Beautiful villa with stunning view
Our stay was wonderful. Jeremy and Sam are great hosts. They warmly welcomed us to the villa and gave us a tour. They told us about the area - where to find great restaurants, grocery stores and local sights to see. The villa is amazing with a beautiful view of the mountains. It has plenty of outdoor space for relaxing and a beautiful pool. We would definitely stay here again.
We enjoyed a wonderful relaxing week, swimming in the pool and exploring local countryside. The villa has everything that you need, and Stavros gave us lots of useful advice when we arrived on where to go.
Exceptional clean villa in beautiful, peaceful surroundings with home from home amenities. A car is essential for visiting this beautiful island. Lovely tavernas in nearby villages. The owner provided lots of recommendations for places to eat and visit. The host Stravos was very informative recommending places to visit. Fabulous pool a must for a very hot 10 day stay.
Excellent base for exploring western Crete and the White Mountains.
Great for hiking the White Mountains.
Pleased you enjoyed your stay in Villa Ariadne .
Beautiful" Away from it all" location
A beautifully appointed villa with lots of space and amazing views. Access is not for the faint hearted, especially in the dark..... we avoided local hedgehog, polecat, sheep and assorted kittens. You definitely need a manual gearbox on your vehicle to cope with the steep bendy roads. Best local taverna is in Vamos -about 10 km away. Despite the cloudy, wet weather we found sun everyday- Look on www.poseideon.gr. Also it is up to 10C cooler at the villa than at the coast..... this created some wardrobe dilemmas!
Stravros is a mine of information from weather, shopping and beaches to appropriate driving styles.
We had a lovely time packingin a trip to Elafonisi, Chora Sfakion, Knossos, Hania, Kalyves and the last day on the Akratiri peninsula where we visited wonderful monastries and beautiful sunny beaches (at Stravros), having checked out in rain at Melidoni and wondered how to spend the time until our 22.30 flight. You can still be on the beach 20 minutes before check-in opens.
We used maps and Waze to find our way around but.... follow the written instructions from Samantha and Jeremy to the villa, otherwise you might end up on your way to the Melidoni caves towards Iraklion, if we had not overuled our tech savy daughter!
Thank you for your review and we are pleased to hear that you had a good time on Crete. As with many parts of rural unspoilt Crete there is a lot of wildlife around and unfortunately they do go onto the roads occasionally. We were sorry to hear that you experienced some unusually cold weather for the time of year, we hope to see you again so you can experience the villa in its usual beautiful weather!
A beautiful property, in a wonderful location
We had a wonderful week in this beautiful property. The house (and its garden/pool) were perfect, and the location was delightful (we enjoyed walking up into the hills/mountains directly from the house). We would highly recommend this property and very much hope to return for a holiday here ourselves in the future.
Thank you for your review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and we would be more than happy to welcome you again in the future!
This Villa along with the location allow for any kind of holiday; whether you are interested in walking in the breathtaking mountains of Crete, enjoying the taste of the local food, as a base point from which to tour the island, or as somewhere to do nothing more than stay and relax, you can do all this and so much more.
With the village of Melidoni on your door step, you can enjoy a true taste of Crete in a truly historical village. As well as this there is a dazzling long, golden, sandy beach just a twenty minute drive away in the wonderful town of Kalives. The beach is semi-organised, allowing for both relaxation and seclusion. There are a number of tavernas in Kalives, as well as an awe-inspiring church in the main square, the local small towns of Vrisses and Vamos are only fifteen minutes by car, both boasting an abundance of wonderful traditional tavernas allowing you to enjoy the true taste of Cretan cooking.

With Melidoni right on your door step: only a three minute walk away, you can enjoy a slice of traditional Crete. You can mingle with the locals, who are very welcoming, in the traditional 'Cafeneon' or coffee house, or if you wish to explore the village of Melidoni there is a wonderfully tranquil church, as well as a historical spring, where you can learn about the origins of the village.
The small town of Kalives is also just a short drive away, with a number of wonderful tavernas, either on the beach front or in the main town square, opposite an ornate Greek orthodox church.
The city of Chania is a spectacular melting pot of culture, history and architecture, with obvious Venetian and Turkish elements in the old cobbled, winding backstreets. There is nothing better than getting lost in the Old Town where there are a number of unique tavernas and shops. The harbour front is also very much worth a visit, especially to the old lighthouse, with wonderful views of Chania with a backdrop of dramatic mountain vistas . Chania has a taste of everything, which is sure to please everyone.
Melidoni, sitting at an altitude of 410 meters, offers amazing opportunities for walkers and bike riders. Good sized supermarkets and other general amenities are available within the town of Kalives, only a twenty minute drive away.
