Rectory Cottage is situated in an Area of Outstanding Beauty with amazing views over the Blackdown Hills in Devon. Ideal for cyclists, walkers and wildlife enthusiasts. On a clear night, keen astronomers will see exceptional views of the stars, due to the lack of light pollution and clean air. Two of the bedrooms have velux windows above for stargazing whilst in bed. There's also a 6 person outdoor hot tub for star spotting. Riding stables are within walking distance as is an award winning local pub. The Jurassic coast and the North Devon sandy coast (ideal for surfing) are easily accessible by car. All local amenities are available in the town of Wellington, 10 mins drive. Exmoor and Dartmoor National parks are both within easy driving distance.

Luxurious base for family wedding

Stunning modern warm cottage in a beautiful setting

We are a family of 5 and stayed at this lovely cottage over Christmas. What a perfect spot for a week away from London - the cottage is modern with three large double en-suite bedrooms and underfloor heating throughout the open plan ground floor area. The owners are so nice and had, unexpectedly, set up a Christmas tree before our arrival plus a welcome pack full of goodies. The house was perfect for our 3 young boys with a large open plan area downstairs, a field outside for playing football and a hot tub (one of the main reasons for choosing this property!). Even in winter the area is stunning, but must be even more amazing any other time of the year. The local pub at the end of the driveway is fantastic serving great food - we ate here a few times and can highly recommend it. There's lots of walks in the local area and within a 45 min drive you can get to either the South or North Devon Coast. There's a lot of great cycling in the area - we rode along the Grand Western Canal from Tiverton Parkway to Tiverton with the kids which is an easy ride for all ages and stunning scenery. It's also within reach of the Cheddar Gorge and Wells (a visit to the cathedral is a must see). The town of Beer on the south coast was also worth a visit. A slightly further day trip to Saunton Sands is worth the effort with its huge sand dunes and probably the highlight of our holiday (apart from the hot tub!).

There's lots of good local amenities with the town of Wellington only 10 minutes away - even the petrol station has a large Budgens with everything you need, including a Cook frozen meals fridge, which was handy over the Christmas period.

I can highly recommend this house and the local area. Thank you Nick and Deborah for making it a perfect Christmas break for us!

Lovely property.

Lovely, modern and comfortable cottage with a great sized garden and hot tub. The owners made us feel very welcome and couldn't have been more helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would not hesitate to stay here again.

Fantastic week away

We have just returned from a fantastic week away at Rectory Cottage, the property was wonderful and exceeded our expectations in every way!

The welcome basket on arrival was lovely as were the eggs from the rectory hens. Nick and Deborah responded quickly to our queries on the run up to the holiday and were also on hand during in the week but allowed us our own privacy throughout.

The cottage was finished and furnished to an extremely high standard and was absolutely spotless. We would thoroughly recommend the cottage for a relaxing holiday away in beautiful surroundings and hope to return ourselves in the future!

The Jurassic coast is approximately 25 miles away. The sandy North Devon coast with beaches such as Woolacombe, Putsborough, Saunton Sands & Croyde are approximately 57 miles away.


Use of car essential/ Exeter Airport 29 miles / Bristol Airport 57 miles / Taunton railway station 13 miles / buses run daily from Wellington, 10 mins away.


Wellington is the nearest town (9miles). The nearest village is Hemyock (4 miles away), which serves excellent food. Places of interest are varied and many, including National Parks (Dartmoor and Exmoor), National Trust houses and gardens (Montecute, knightshayes, Killerton, Stourhead etc).

Further Details:

Wellington town has a range of supermarkets (including Waitrose) as well as doctors, dentists, banks and a charming old cinema. The county town of Taunton is a 15 minute drive away for more extensive shopping and dining options.
