Barn in Vic-Fezensac, Gers, Midi-Pyrenees, France - Very Tranquil Location, But Only 5-minute Drive From Lively Market Town With All Amenities

Slip into a glorious tapestry of meadows, oak woods and rolling countryside, in a wonderfully peaceful hilltop setting on the fringes of a lively town. Our 27-acre estate is yours to roam, so plunge into the pool, potter in the potager and end the day in your shady private garden with a glass of the local wine and dinner on the barbeque. Once part of a stable block, the gîte combines rustic charm with modern comforts, from its impressive split-level sitting room to its comfortable bedrooms supplied with cool cotton sheets and its sleek modern bathroom with walk-in shower. Ancient terracotta tiles add an earthy touch to contemporary furniture and oak finishes in the living/dining area; which has an open fire and TV with all the main UK channels available. Lovely to look over the woods while you cook, but you could also book to join B&B guests for delicious table d'hôtes four nights a week. Gascony is the larder of southwest France, but people don’t just come here for the food. Local festivals, fairs and concerts, unspoilt towns and villages, gardens and galleries to visit, boats on the Baïse, thermal spas, swimming lakes, Armagnac vineyards and markets mean that there is something to occupy you all summer long. Slightly further afield, the magnificent Pyrenees, historic Toulouse or the splendid Atlantic beaches around Biarritz are all a day-trip away. With its 2 bright and airy bedrooms on the first floor, this gite is equally suited to a romantic getaway for 2, a group of 4 adults, or a family with up to 3 children. The double room is on the mezzanine level overlooking the living area. This room is flooded with light from 2 porthole windows and French doors with balcony rail overlooking the front of the property. The large twin-bedded room, which is lit by a large skylight, offers flexible accommodation. An extra single bed (or a cot) can be added to this room if required. Both rooms remain refreshingly cool in summer, but fans are provided if you need them.

About Simon Butterworth

We are Cathie and Simon Butterworth and we moved from a hectic life in London to this beautiful corner of Gascony in 2008, with the express intention of opening our home to holidaymakers. Simon was both a chef and an interior designer in former days and we both love food and cooking, so the opportunity to grow our own produce is a delight. Having run our 4 bedroom Chambre d’hotes (named as one of the top 20 in France by The Times a few years ago) for the past 5 years, we have now opened our barn conversion so as to offer a self-catering option. We love to welcome guests to share in the life we have built here in the wonderful Gers.

Why Simon Butterworth chose Lannepax

We both grew up in the countryside, Cathie in Warwickshire and Simon in Devon, and the landscape here has many echoes of our childhoods. This really is ‘La France Profonde’, or ‘true France’. Many of our neighbours still live the traditional rural life, farming in the old way in tune with the seasons. Wildlife abounds and the lack of pollution means that you get fantastic views of the stars at night or, on clear days of the snow-capped mountains along the Spanish border. That said, we are not at all isolated here. We are less than 5 minutes drive from Vic-fezensac, one of the liveliest towns in the Gers, which has supermarkets, banks, shops, restaurants and all the facilities you could want (even a cinema!).

                                    • Notes on accommodation: The English owners live on site and will be there to greet you. They speak English and French. A Welcome Pack containing Coffee, English teabags, a bottle of milk, a bottle of wine, butter, salt, pepper, olive oil and a jar of home-made jam (plus some fruit from the garden if available) is provided on arrival. A Local Area Information pack is provided in the gite. Smoking is not allowed in the property. High-speed internet access is available from the main house only. Outside: The gite has a secluded private garden looking out over the orchard, with a lawned area for sunbathing and a shaded dining area with outdoor table and chairs. A Weber kettle barbeque is provided (with fuel for at least one meal), along with BBQ tools and matches. You are welcome to pick the herbs growing in the gite garden for use in your cooking. You will share use of our large swimming pool (open May – October) with any chambres d’hôtes guests. The pool has a walled sun terrace with loungers and pool towels supplied. Utility Room: The utility room contains a washing machine, laundry equipment and cleaning equipment and products. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Hotel-quality cotton bedlinen and bedding supplied for all beds. Sheets and pillowcases changed weekly. Bath towels supplied for each guest and changed weekly. Pool towels available at pool. Property thoroughly cleaned prior to each arrival only.

                                      Great gite, beautiful location. Nice big family room, good-sized kitchen, immaculate throughout, orchard and wild flower meadow directly outside. Woods and walks inside the grounds and a fabulous, fun pool inside the walls of an old barn. Owners Simon and Cathie charming, helpful and have lots of useful local knowledge, trips, nearby restaurants etc. Really recommend. RW

                                      Coast/Beach: If you tire of our pool there are several water parks and swimming lakes in the vicinity, offering everything from a simple sandy beach with a picnic area, up to sailing, water-skiing and water flumes for children. The closest is just a 15 minute drive away For those who fancy a day trip to the sea, the long sandy beaches and pounding waves of the Atlantic coast can be reached in just over 2 hours. Travel: A car is essential to make the most of your stay here. We are just over a 1 hour drive west of Toulouse, with daily flights from the UK. Airports at Tarbes, Biarritz, Bordeaux, Carcassone and Bergerac are all within 3 hrs drive. The TGV links Agen (Ihr north) to Paris in just over 3 hrs. Allow a 10-hr drive from the Calais ferry/ Eurotunnel, and 8 hrs from other channel ports. Bilbao and Santander have ferry sailings from the UK and are around 5 hrs to the South. Changeover Day: Rentals operate from Saturday – Saturday, but this may be flexible outside the peak season, please ask. Arrivals after 4.30pm, Departures by 10.30am. Notes on prices: A refundable security deposit of £300.00 (or €300.00) is required for all rentals.
