Village house with pool in Maro, Nerja - Lovely White Village close to beach.
About Alex Johnstone
I am a Brit living in South Africa since 2009. I love the coast and like splitting time between Cape Town and Spain. I take great pride in my properties and have spent a lot of time designing and decorating them to a high standard
Alex Johnstone purchased this House in 2014
Why Alex Johnstone chose Maro
I have loved this area for many years, my parents have had a property here for over twenty years so I've seen it develop and improve significantly. Maro is a traditional Andalusian village but very close to the beach and also to Nerja town which has many restaurants and bars. There are lots of great beaches along the coast within a short drive, in addition to the local Maro beach. I bought this house and had an architect draw up plans for a completely new and modern layout behind the traditional village facade.
What makes this House unique
The house has the benefit of being close to Nerja but situated in the quieter village of Maro just 3km away. Behind the traditional Andalus exterior is a modern relaxed space done to a very high specification. This house is unlike any other in the village.

Simplicity, Modern & Comfort in the heart of Maro
Soak in the beauty of Maro, neighboring picturesque villages, seaside and enjoy being home away from home all in one. Alex and Rob have created a wonderful home to spend time whilst taking in some fresh air, ocean, experiencing the love of the Spanish culture and exploring the villages in the near. The house is well maintained and clean. The restored home allows a great social atmosphere and energy for friends or families wanting to be interactive and reconnect. Stayed in the outside villa with air conditioning in our bedroom, a comfortable bed and loads of cupboard space. Downstairs was a small seating area with a small fridge. The road driving to Maro from Malaga airport is well built and easy to get to. It is in a short walking distance near to the bus stop if you would like to explore Nerja. There are excellent Tapas bars are in Nerja, this is a must and they are not expensive! Alex and Rob were very helpful and gave excellent advice on where to go! The house is a definite must for everyone to experience. Will be back again!
We had a wonderful time in Maro. The house was perfectly equipped and Liz and Robert where really attentive. Since we arrived on Saturday evening, we found in the fridge everything we needed for our first breakfast. There are some small bars around the corner, one with a beautiful sea view. The litte village is a good start place to visit Malaga or Granada or just to spend some time on the beach. There are some nice beaches around 4-5 kilometers away. We can really recommend the Casa Blanca.
The Villa is absolutely as described and as seen in photos and even better. Home from home. Fully equipped even though we didn't need it as we ate out every evening and just had breakfast and lunch there. Liz and Robert, Property Managers and Alex's parents were extremely helpful at all times. Maro is extremely quiet so traveled into Nerja for a bit of night life and some fine dining. There are several restaurants in Maro which can best be described as rustic and good. There are also three mini-markets for every day needs. As we didn't have a car this had to suffice. Weather beautiful. Highly recommend Casa Blanca and hope to return.

Many thanks for your kind comments Vivienne, I'm so glad you both had a great holiday at my house in Maro.
What more could you ask for in a vacation rental?
What matters to us is that the photos accurately reflect the actual conditions you will find when you arrive. Check that box - it does.
What matters to us is that the apartment kitchen is properly equipped to minimize the need to run out and acquire spices and other kitchen supplies. Check that box - it does (plus the owner left us a nice bottle of wine and some chocolates!).
What matters to us is that the owner is helpful with making local recommendations about things to do, places to eat, and things to avoid. Check that box also - the owner went out of his way to be helpful.
Book it, enjoy yourself, leave your anxieties behind.
Many thank Harry for the review, I am just glad you had a great stay and enjoyed the house.
You can walk or drive to Maro beach which is 1.5km away from the house, it has been voted one of the Costa Del Sol's best beaches and has a beach bar/restaurant and kayak rentals.
About 45 minute drive from Malaga airport (72km) and about an hour from Granada (94km). Car hire is recommended but there are buses available.
Maro is very close to Nerja, about 3km only.
Maro is a pretty coastal village famous for the Nerja Caves – one of Spain’s most popular and important prehistoric sites. The house is in the centre of the village a few footsteps from the Balcon de Maro with spectacular views.
