Overview

About the property

For nature lovers who want space, peace and relaxation.

A Very warm welcome to our lovely cottage. Cerro Brae is, as its name implies, on the brow of a hill offering fabulous panoramic views of more than 180 degrees toward the El Chorro range in the west.

Originally a traditional farmhouse accompanied by two smaller cottages within an acre of grounds. The other cottages are only used by the owners which usually means you will have sole use of the 10 meter pool.

For country lovers who want to relax by the pool or adventurers who will take advantage of the myriad of activities available in the area, Cerro Brae is a great location. Rock climbing, bird watching, walking, kayaking, wild swimming are just a few items on offer in the area.

The Finca or farm house briefly comprises of two bedrooms, one of which is a king and the other a twin. Large kitchen dining area and log burner in the comfortable lounge. There are various areas outside that lend themselves to entertaining; a covered pergola, a terrace and pool terrace.

Within a 5 minute car drive is the hamlet of Pastelero where you can find two very good eateries and a bakery. For your bigger shop, Villanueva De La Concepcion is just about 15 minutes drive. Go in the mornings and find a warren of shops and cafes that at other times appear to be closed. Generally opening times are 8.30am to 2pm and 5pm to 8pm for the local Dia supermarket. There are many supermarkets, shops and cultural interests such as the Castle in Antequera which is just over 40 minutes away.

We hope we have thought of everything to make this holiday special for you. A well equipped kitchen, sun loungers and a ring side view to watch the goat herds meander across the valleys. One of the owners Derek will be on hand to help in any way should you need him while keeping a discrete distance during your stay.

Cerro Brae is located up a steep hill and then down a short rough track. Derek can come to Pastelero to guide you if you wish. We do in any event advise a careful drive for the last section.

Why The Owner chose Villanueva de la Concepción

We fell in love with this property the moment we saw it and it's magnificent views. It's an ideal place to sit and relax, watch the ever changing mountainous views, listen to the birds and the bells ringing in the distance on the local goat herds. Many of our guests love to relax by the pool by the day in the sun and quite often stay by the pool late into the night with a glass of wine and enjoy the brilliant sunsets and the fabulous starlit night.

What makes this cottage unique

Unspoiled views, magnificent sunsets and fabulous starlit nights.

Paradise in the mountains

  • 5 of 5

Absolute perfection. Derek and Paula have thought of everything, from loads of towels to a very well equipped kitchen. The views are INCREDIBLE! Villa is perfect, Derek is very attentive and helpful, we had the most perfect holiday and can't wait to come back! Would recommend getting a car with a decent sized engine, ours was a big car with only a 1.2l engine and it struggled on some of the hills! Thank you so much Derek and Paula and see you next year!

Stylish finca with breathtaking views and a nice pool

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in Derek and Paula’s lovely finca. It is very comfortable and pretty and has everything you need. The views from the property are breathtaking It is lovey to sit by the pool and just watch the local countryside.

The area is quiet and it really is a place for chilling out and winding down. There is a lovely bar / restaurant in Pastelero called Venta Pastelero. The menu is simple and small but the food was tasty and good value for money. There is a second restaurant but we didn’t try it as it was indoor seating and it was very hot whilst we were there.

We did visit Villanueva de la Concepcion which is about a 15min drive from the property but only really found the supermarket. We did try a bar for supper but the food wasn’t good. To be honest this town was a bit of a let-down as it looked promising but had nothing to explore.

Antequera is about a 50 min drive and is wonderful place to visit. Nice little shops and some great restaurants. We also spent a day in Malaga Marina which was also about a 50 min drive away.

The only issue for us was lack of wifi and tv. As the finca is so remote we spent time inside in the evening and would have enjoyed a film or two. Wifi would have also been useful to plan days out, though you can always use your mobile data for this as there is reception.

Derek was a lovely chap and was there to help when needed but gave us our privacy the rest of the time. He is lovely and calm and the whole place had a nice vibe.

Personally I would say this is a place for a couple or two couples holidaying together rather than a family with kids. The site isn’t really suitable for young children and there isn’t much to do for older ones, although our 19 year old enjoyed getting a tan by the pool for a week!

Owner's Response: Thank you for such a lovely review Claire. We agree with you that it is not suitable for young children and have put that in the detail of information. Villaneuva de la Concepcion can be confusing as there are so many bakeries etc that only open for the morning. There is a lovely market each Monday that has fresh fruit, veg and some clothes etc too. I believe there are up to 16 bars/cafes in the town and as yet we havnt managed to sample them all. TripAdvisor gives a small selection. Do try the second eatery in Pastelero Hermanos Moreno next to Venta Pastelero as they have air con inside which is most welcome in this hot weather. Its a place to catch up on the news on TV if necessary and use wifi. The local bakery across from here has fresh bread most mornings.

un très bel endroit

  • 5 of 5

Une vue à couper le souffle, piscine, maison, équipements , rien à redire ni à suggérer en améliorations . La présence de derek sur site est à la fois discrète, efficace et d'une remarquable gentillesse.

véhicule indispensable, pour les fan de nature et de calme.

The spectacular Torcal mountain range is a must see which is only 15 minutes away.

Visit the Lobo Park 30 minutes away, a wolf reserve with tours to see the packs.

El Chorro and the lakes are only an hour away, a much loved favorite of ours and if you have a head for heights try the awesome Caminito del Rey walk.
