You will find that il Borghetto is located in one of the most popular areas in Tuscany. Situated between Pisa and Florence in Northern Tuscany, il Borghetto is only eight miles from the historic city of Lucca, famous for its flat, pedestrian-friendly, cobblestone streets and its magnificent thirty meter wide Renaissance wall surrounding the entire city. Taking part in the evening walk, la passagiata, on the tree-lined wall with dozens of other walkers and bikers is one of life’s little pleasures in Lucca. Lucca is big enough to offer opera and world famous artists at its Summer Music Festival, first-rate shopping, and fine restaurants – and small enough that you can traverse by foot in twenty minutes. The world famous Puccini Festival takes place every summer on the shores of Torre del Lago at their beautiful outdoor amphitheatre. In less than two hours, you can visit beautiful Siena, San Gimignano, the vineyards of Chianti, and the famous Garfagnana region, home of the beautiful forested National Parks of the Apuane and Appennine mountain ranges. Or come the last two weeks in July for Lucca Summer Fest, where some of the top acts in the world come to play in the famous Piazza Napoleone.
Jim and his wife, Debbie, bought property near Lucca in 2003 and have permanently relocated to this beautiful area. We have lived in Europe for the past 20 years (London and Stockholm before moving to Italy). Jim has a passion for cooking and is happy to share his secrets to making a perfect pizza in a wood burning oven. We are also happy to help you plan your itinerary while in this area, including pre-booking your museum tickets in Florence to avoid the lines, booking our favourite restaurants for you and more.

The location of il Borghetto in San Gennaro is superb. In the medium hills above the Lucca plain and below the historic village of San Gennaro, we offer a piece of solitude in the Tuscan hills. Views of vineyards and olive groves are offered from every vantage point on the property. The newly built property features the stones of the 14th century building that stood on this very spot. Modern inside, the apartment retains the Tuscan charm of handmade terra cotta floors and chestnut beam ceilings throughout. It is an easy 20 minute hike up the hill to San Gennaro, where you can dine at the local trattoria, Il Corno Rosso. Hiking paths (all well marked by Club Alpina d'Italia) are all around the area.
il Borghetto is tucked in a beautiful valley with views of olive groves and vineyards. Peaceful and serene, it is the perfect base for your Tuscan holiday. Less than an hour to Pisa and Florence airports, the sea, and other Tuscan towns like San Gimignano, Siena, Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi.
When you are not out touring, enjoy the spacious grounds around our 5 x 12 metre swimming pool. Your apartment features private outdoor space with table and chairs for dining.
From the moment you drive through the gated entrance, you will be happy you chose il Borghetto in San Gennaro.

Superb!!!!! Tuscany experience
We stayed at Jims amazing Tuscan house near lucca for a week( not long enough). From the moment we booked the house (months earlier) jim was a god sent. He made everything so easy for us and even picked us up from the autoroute.
We had a beautiful food and wine hamper on arrival which included Jims home made extra virgin olive oil. We wanted more.
The house was amazing and the view simply breathtaking, everything was superb.
What a beautiful Tuscan villa in a wonderful quiet and tranquil location, the pool just topped it all off. We were a family group of 6 but we really want to go back just as a couple.
Thank you again Jim, you made our stay in Tuscany just that extra bit special, we have already started recommending to our friends.
Relaxing break after a sightseeing tour (July 2014)
My family have just returned home from a weeks stay at il Borghetto after a sightseeing tour of Italy. The photographs show exactly what is there. A beautiful clean and spacious modern apartment very nicely decorated. The swimming pool was well positioned just perfect for the children to have a good splash without annoying anyone. The apartment has all of the amenities we needed for the family and close to some very nice restaurants and the famous Tuscan wine and olive oil road. We look forward to a return visit. (Giorgio and Stephen)
We had a wonderful time and would definitely go back. The property was in a beautiful setting at the end of a private round between Lucca and Pescia, with the ability to hike out of the grounds up to San Gennaro (it was a little muddy for that but we would have liked to do so). The kitchen had all the necessary accouterments and Jim left us pasta and fixings for our first night and a bottle of prosecco! The hospitality could not have been better- Jim set up a great dinner in MonteCarlo and a wonderful wine tasting at Montechiari. We would love to go back soon.
You are one hour from some great beaches, from Pisa to Torre del Lago to Viareggio to the posh town of Forte dei Marmi. The Versilia coast is gorgeous. You are also 1.5 hours from the famous Cinque Terre, where you can hike or boat between the picturesque hillside towns.
We are equidistant from Pisa International and Florence airports. Less than one hour to either one. You will need a car.
1.5 km to our local TiBi Bar, where they also serve lunch. 1.6 km from our apartment is Ristorante al Covo, serving excellent seafood and pasta. Collodi, home of Pinocchio Park is 2 km away.
My wife and I have lived in the Lucca area for 10 years. We are happy to help you with your itinerary, including pre-booking your tickets at the Florence museums so you don't have to stand in line, recommending local restaurants, shops, hiking trails, etc. so that you have a relaxing, memorable holiday here in Tuscany.
