Provençal villa, large private gardens in pretty, quiet domaine with shared pool
This beautiful, south facing sunny villa is set in an exclusive, gated, hilltop domaine and is perfectly positioned on the Côte D’Azur, close to the coast between Nice & Antibes. The domaine is full of traditional character and enjoys an elevated position over the valley below. We have a large, shared pool with stunning views of the medieval village of St Paul de Vence in one direction and the sea in the other. It is the ideal base for exploring the French Riviera and the villages-perchés close by. It is only 10 minutes drive from the airport and just 15 minutes walk to the famous village of St Paul. Yet, while the villa ensures easy access to all the Côte D’Azur has to offer, it’s location in such a pretty and tranquil domaine means that on return from a day exploring you can easily relax and soak up the wonderful provençal atmosphere....... perfect! Our villa within the domaine is one of a small number of private one and two bedroom residences and is called Mimosa Villa for the 2 mimosa trees growing there. We have wonderfully sunny south-facing private gardens with three separate terraces all with breathtaking views of the sea, Cap D'Antibes and the wooded valley below. We have dining areas and sun loungers placed throughout which are perfect for alfresco dining and sunbathing. Or if you’d like to relax in the shade, pick a spot under our lovely big old pine tree. For sunny breakfasts, the breakfast terrace has a unique stone table that was once an olive millstone and seats 8 comfortably. At night, the views of lights twinkling along the coast and of starry skys are spectacular too. It all makes it very difficult to ever leave!
Inside the villa, large French doors in both the living area and main bedroom open onto the balconies so the wonderful views can be enjoyed there too. We’ve just added a beautiful new kitchen with all modern equipment and remodelled and redecorated the living and dining areas so they are lovely places to relax and read or listen to some music or watch movies, whatever your heart desires. With 2 double bedrooms, both with great sized ensuites, Mimosa villa can comfortably accommodate up to 2 couples or families of 4/5 as we have a cot bed for very young children or the sofa bed provides useful additional sleeping space.

About Claire Hamilton
Home for me is Belfast in Northern Ireland. It's a convenient spot for small city living combined with easy access to the scenic coast, beaches and mountains for enjoying the great outdoors. I'm a chartered accountant who, pre children, worked and travelled widely through Europe and North America as part of my career and well and truly caught the travel bug and a love of discovering new places! Now married with 2 wonderful children, Luke 12 and Hollybell 10, my husband Peter and I wanted to find a place in the sun we could escape to for some rest and fun with the family.
Claire Hamilton purchased this Villa in 2007
Why Claire Hamilton chose Saint Paul de Vence
Peter and I fell in love with Mimosa Villa on sight. It's in such a characterful and beautiful little Domaine and the accommodation lends itself perfectly to relaxed, get away from it all, living. Peter's brother, his wife and their 2 children, also own a villa on the same domaine and we try to spend as much time there together as possible in school holidays. It is the perfect spot for us because it's right on the Cote D'Azur and only 10 minutes from Nice airport so easy to pop over for a visit. While it's easy to access all the French Riviera has to offer, it's location in the hills above the busy coastal routes, in St Paul de Vence, means its a real escape from the hustle and bustle too. Our most favourite thing is to come home after exploring one of the beautiful villages perches to relax on the terraces and soak up the spectacular views down the valley to the sea. It's difficult to leave! Of course, the kids favourite thing to do is swim and dive in the large pool -they've quite perfected the art of diving for treasure there! As we can't be there all the time, we also love to share our villa with our guests. We look forward to welcoming you and will do everything possible to ensure you have a truely wonderful time there.
What makes this Villa unique

A truly wonderful villa.
We were utterly charmed by this wonderful villa just outside St Paul de Vence. It is clear from the quality of everything about this property that you are really being invited into someone's home. Open the shutters and drink in the view and you too will feel almost immediately at home.
We were there for a long weekend in October and the weather was beautiful, the breeze gentle. Having arrived late the view didn't reveal itself until early the next morning and made all the better with welcoming croissants and coffee. Without exaggeration you could sit on the terrace all day. Beckoning and just minutes away, is the historic and beautiful town of St Paul de Vence. We loved it and wandered its ancient ramparts and narrow cobbles, later lunching at Cafe de Place and then dining in the evening at a rampart restaurant where the service and the food was delightful.
The villa itself is in a gated area, just fifteen minutes from Nice airport, with key coded access leading to its hilltop location. There is a communal pool and patio area and other villas around though it is still very private. There are two double bedrooms and everything you would want in terms of kitchen, dishwasher, showers, tv, music system etc. The living room and front bedroom both look out onto the balcony, which in turn looks down onto a lower terrace and to the side of the villa is a lovely seated area. I think you can tell we were impressed.
We did Antibe, Canne and Nice all of which are within a short distance by car and also minutes away are shops, a huge new shopping centre and supermarket.
We have no hesitation in recommending this beautiful property and even describing it doesn't do the actual experience justice.
Mimosa Villa - A slice of PARADISE on the Cote d'Azur!
We were very fortunate to stay one full month in September at the wonderful Mimosa Villa.
From the moment we drove in the gates of Dumaine du Piol we felt at home. A lovely welcome of wine and cheese awaited us on the table so we could toast our vacation and relax after the flight. Since we arrived late at night, we had the pleasure of opening the shutters in the morning to reveal a most beautiful view of the hills, and the Mediterranean.
The space around the villa was great as we had the terrace, a large back patio including a Boules court and a side patio with a table. Pride of ownership is evident in this Home Away. We were also able to enjoy the pool which was very close to the villa.
The interior is decorated very tastefully, incorporating all the French touches that you would
imagine. The kitchen was great to work in and the sitting area very comfortable. The bedrooms accommodated us very well.
I cannot say enough about the responsiveness of Claire (owner) and Eva (local contact) before and during our stay.
We frequented the local grocery store, Leclerc, which has a great selection if you are planning on preparing meals. We had a car which made trips for groceries and to all the towns and villages in the region easy. We did use Uber a few times as well, which was much more cost effective than local taxi cabs. The closest town, Saint Paul de Vence was just beautiful. We spent time there just sitting in the large cafe outside the Boules court enjoying our coffee, wine and the culture.
One could never tire of that gorgeous view right through the French doors at Mimosa Villa.
Simply Perfect Getaway
Look no further than this perfect retreat! Located less than a 30 minute straightforward drive away from Nice airport, this property is everything you wished for and more. Beautifully and tastefully decorated, and equipped with absolutely everything you could ever need, it's elevated position and fabulous terraces provide you with the perfect oasis to relax and unwind with a glass of one of the local excellent rose wines whilst you soak up the sun and the beautiful landscapes.
If you can manage to drag yourself away, the nearby town of St Paul de Vence has many exquisite shops and restaurants catering for all tastes. This beautiful medieval walled village is about 15 mins walk so leave your car at the Villa and enjoy a few glasses of wine while you watch the locals play boules in the square.
St Paul de Vence has been the inspiration for many of France's most famous artists and a stay at villa Mimosa must involve a lunch at the famous Colombe d'or restaurant whose walls are adorned with Picasso and terrace an inspired Fernand Leger cermacic. Book this restaurant well in advance as it is sought out by many a celebtity. A google search will reveal that you are dinning where Sinatra, Monroe, Roger Moore and Bono have all been amongst other Hollywood icons.
Vence is just a short car journey away and well worth a visit on market day.
The Villa is perfectly situated to explore the best of the Cote de Sur and we found leaving the car at the station in Cagnes Sur Mer the most relaxing way to explore nearby Antibes and Cannes.
Going in the other direction the beach at Villefranche Sur Mer is just a few steps from the station. Claire and Peter have left great recommendations for local supermarkets and sightseeing trips.
Don't miss the Grimaldi Castle in nearby Cagnes Sur Mer.
A truly beautiful Villa in the heart of the Riviera. You will be counting down the days to your next stay there. We can't wait to get back to this little oasis of luxury.
Wonderful villa, with amazing views neat Saint Paul de Vence.
We had a wonderful stay here as a family. Beautiful accomadation that has a garden with stunning views across the hills. Large communal swimming pool and a 20 minute uphill walk to the town, with lots of restaurants and shops. We would definitely recommend a stay here.
Dear Libby, It was a pleasure to host you and your family and we are so pleased you had a great holiday. Kind regards Claire
A beautiful stay
Me, my husband and our two children had a wonderful stay in this interesting house. The house, the pool and the location offer something for everyone and we would love to visit again.
Dear Emma and James, we are delighted you enjoyed your stay and will look forward to welcoming you back any time, Best wishes, Claire
Amazing, simply amazing!
I have had the most wonderful time in this beautiful villa in the South of France! The villa is situated in the rolling hills outside of Nice with the most amazing views down the valley to the sea. Opening the shutters of the living room – one is absorbed by the beauty of this villa and its gorgeous surroundings. The villa itself was perfect, just perfect! Very clean and very well equipped with everything needed for a great holiday. Plenty of places to sit and relax on the property, an outside stone table for breakfast was wonderful, multiple patios for variety and a lower terrace to play French boules. Views down the valley were not only from the living room – but also from the main bedroom. Fabulous to wake up in the morning and throw open the shutters to look once again at that view!
The villa is close to many of the main attractions in the area and we traveled a lot. Most spectacular was St Paul de Vence which is only a 15 minute walk away (5 mins by car). It is uphill but well worth the walk – little bars, cafes, restaurants and art galleries. I remember seeing St Paul de Vence in the old Hollywood movies as a child and it hasn’t changed at all! I walked there several times over my holiday and saw Rod Stuart and Roger Moore also walking the streets. It obviously has the same attraction for stars!
This place is a gem and I can’t recommend it highly enough. I am already looking for times next year to re-book Mimosa Villa. I love it!
Peter, thank you for your wonderful review! We look forward to welcoming you back very soon. Best wishes, Claire
The Villa is ideally situated as a base for visiting the French Riviera and exploring the seaside resorts of Nice, Antibes, Cannes and St. Tropez as well as the historic mountain villages nearby. The most famous, St. Paul de Vence is within easy walking distance (15 mins approximately). It's a simple Provençal village… A café nestles on the square, shaded by plane trees. A game of boules is underway. You stroll along the ramparts, wander from art gallery to craft shop, linger by the village fountain, sample the local wine, and take it all in…This medieval village with its ramparts and cobbled streets, described as the most beautiful village in France was once the home of many famous artists such as Chagal, Renoir & Matisse and its association with art is still seen today with its magnificent art shops and galleries. The world class museum Fondation Maeght and renowned restaurant Le Colombe D'Or are both within walking distance. Monte Carlo is half an hour's drive, with the Italian border and Southern Alps both just 40 minutes away. The renowned ski resort of Isola 2000 is an hour's drive. Both Nice & Antibes have historic markets that are not to be missed!
