About Leonardo Giuliani and Anne Bennett

Anna Rosa, owner of the Villa “Ai Sedili”, was born and lived in Largs, Scotland until the age of 24, where her grandfather Pietro, in the late 1800s, had moved leaving from Barga in search of fortune: at first he sold ‘statuine’ (plaster statuettes), then he opened a fish and chips shop and eventually an ice cream shop and café. Gradually the ‘Nardini’ Café supplied ice cream to the entire Scotland.

Anna Rosa and her family came back to the loved Barga whenever they could. During one of the many awaited holidays, fourteen-year-old Anna Rosa met Giuliano and since then her heart was even more tied to Barga.

In 1958, when ten years had gone by since her first encounter with Giuliano, Anna Rosa’s father, Nardino, allowed his daughter to stay in Barga and marry her much loved Giuliano the year after.

In 1970 Anna Rosa’s parents gave her another beautiful present: “Villa Ai Sedili”, where she has lived a happy life together with Giuliano and their children, Leonardo and Eleonora.

Anna Rosa wishes all her guests a wonderful stay at “Ai Sedili”.

What makes this villa unique

The Villa is perfectly situated less than 1km from the thriving hill top town of Barga. Although close to town it enjoys privacy and stunning scenery.

The property is fabulous and spacious both inside and out; really well kept and welcoming.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful 3 weeks at Ai Sedili with plenty of room to spread out both inside and out. The villa has utterly stunning views all around it and with lots of space to eat outside and a well equipped kitchen we catered at the villa a number of times easily for the eight of us. We had fun trying out the pizza oven up by the pool (also fab by the way) a couple of times too with increasing success. Leonardo and family were really friendly and generous with their time and made us all feel extremely welcome, as was Anne, who took us on a great tour of the area, including a wine and olive oil tasting. We also had a fabulous meal of local cuisine cooked for us at the villa by Linda. The local village, Barga, is pretty and within easy walking distance for all the basics and local restaurants we needed (including some lovely outdoor concerts in the town square). We would highly recommend this villa for a lovely, relaxed holiday with lots of small hilltop towns to visit for a real sense of rural Italy. If you want some city time the beautful city of Lucca is only a 45minute drive away (or an hour on the local bus) and Pistoia or Pisa or Viareggio are just a bit further but worth a trip too.

Fantastic stay in a lovely villa in the special Barga area

  • 5 of 5

Ai Sedili is a great villa with plenty of space for everyone, the swimming pool was a particular highlight with a shallow end for the kids and deep end with diving board for the adults. The hosts looked after us well with plenty of information beforehand and useful hints, tips and a thoughtful welcome basket of food once we arrived. Barga has a good range of places to eat (and to get gelato) and to drive around the local area is superb.

One note of caution for drivers is there are a few hairpin bends in the latter part of the journey towards the villa and the entrance is a little narrow. We walked upto Barga most evenings for dinner, it took about 10 minutes but there is no footpath so just something to keep in mind.

A real treat was going up to the top of the church tower for the ringing of the bells at 10pm - this definitely should not be missed! Ai Sedili was the perfect base for our holiday and helped us get the right mix of relaxing at home and exploring the local area. We would definitely recommend!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words. We are glad you enjoyed your stay in Barga and look forward to having you at the villa again. Im sorry we never informed you of a path to Barga which avoids the main road and of which is accessible just 100 m from the Villa entrance. It isn't lit at night and a flashlight would be necessary. Thanks again for the review. Kind regards, Leonardo

Beautiful large period house with stunning views

  • 5 of 5

Ai Sedili is a lovely period house, clearly a much loved family home, with a lovely pool and stunning mountain views. It is a few minutes walk from Barga, which is a beautiful old village with plenty of good restaurants. Lucca is a short drive away, and Florence close enough for a day trip, and there are lots of places to visit in the mountains of the beautiful Garfagnana. Leonardo and Daniella were very helpful but unobtrusive hosts. We would love to come back for another visit.

Idyllic villa with amazing views

  • 5 of 5

We spent a beautiful relaxing week in this villa; just what we needed. If you're after an authentic Tuscan experience with the option of very good local restaurants nearby, a fairly large pool with all round views of the mountains, then I would strongly recommend. We'd certainly go back again. Leonardo, the owner, was very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Always there if you have any questions. All in all, a perfect holiday.

Great Villa - superb spot

  • 4 of 5

The photos don't do this place justice. 4 really great sized double bedrooms. Panormaic views to die for. Fab pool, BBQ area and pizza oven. The fruit garden with amazing pears and plums overlooking the valley below was a treat. The village of Barga is a bit of a hidden gem too. Cobbled streets, piazza's and loads of places to eat out. Great place to stay.

It really is as beautiful as the photos, and more!

  • 5 of 5

The villa is on the edge of Barga, and combines a beautiful wild set of hill country views from all the windows with an easy walk into the town, where there are some excellent restaurants. Anne made our visit very easy, and the owners were very welcoming.
