A wonderful holiday worth every penny
Everything was as advertised or as communicated by the home owner. Communication was great, including the detailed directions to the cottage from the airport and details of local supermarkets. The cottage was spotlessly clean and of a very high quality, it was welcoming and provided everything we needed for our stay.
There was no skimping on fuel for the fire, or heating and the clear instructions on laying/ working a peat fire we’re really helpful.
Thank you for a wonderful stay and for going the ‘extra mile’ in all things including weather warnings, which enabled us to stock up so we could huddle down with emergency bickies and enjoy the show of Connemara being both wild and beautiful.
Visit to County Galway
A beutiful property with fantastic views which change with the weather. Property was spotless and had everything for a getaway from it all holiday. Having a car is essential as you are out on a peninsula. Local shop /post office which is about 2miles away has everyhthing and they are very friendly and they like to have a little chat with anyone who comes in. Mike the owner was very helpful and provided lots of information about the area. There are plenty of maps at the property to enable you to go and explore the beutiful beaches and the surrounding area.
Thanks Mike a great holiday.
Perfect Property in the Beautiful West
We had a wonderful time staying here. The property is great with wonderful views and is a good location for trips to the Aran Islands, Kylemore Abbey and family favourites like Dog’s Bay, Glengowra Mines and Leenaune .
Wonderful cottage and area
When we arrived at the cottage, we were surprised by the beauty of the location. The owner also made sure that there was bread, coffee and tea when we arrived in the evening. The cottage is beautiful, fully equiped and perfect for seven people to stay. There were only three of us and we enjoyed the space. Thank you Mike for giving us the chance to experience beautiful Galway this way..
Beautiful house, immaculately clean. Very peaceful location within reasonable driving distance of a variety of places to visit and things to do.
Beautiful cottage in stunning surroundings
I searched the internet with the words ‘idyllic Galway cottage with views’ and this cottage came up. My goodness, it exceeded expectation in all ways! The cottage is beautiful throughout. It is furnished and equipped to a very high standard, the rooms are large and the bedrooms have more than enough storage space. The bathrooms are gleaming and the jacuzzi bath is an added treat. We had mainly beautiful weather for the time of year, but it was chilly on a night, so we lit the peat/wood burner each evening, which added to the ambience of the beautiful living room. The views out of all windows are picture postcard perfect. Mountains, sea and islands in all directions, with the scenery changing depending on the weather and light. Mike, the cottage owner is so helpful and informative and he gave us some fantastic ideas of places to visit in the area that we may not have discovered ourselves. The drive across country to Kylemore Abbey through Inagh Valley is stunning, as are the white sands of Dogs Bay. Take a walk down to the little harbour (turn right out of the drive and follow the road to the end). You may collect several local dogs along the way, but they all seemed friendly and the view at the end is worth the walk. Can’t wait to visit again to do the things we didn’t get round to this time.
The cottage is on the Atlantic side of the Wild Atlantic Way. There are two pretty quays within walking distance; one just five minutes away and the other about twenty. There are several quiet sandy beaches within easy reach by car, the nearest being about half an hour away across the bay.
The nearest airport is West of Ireland Airport at Knock, which is about a two hour drive away, much of it with stunning views of loughs and mountains. Otherwise the drive from Dublin Airport only takes about four hours, including a break.
The drive from Dublin Port or Dun Loughaire takes about four hours, including a break.
All of Connemara's attractions are within an hour's drive, including: Galway for shopping restaurants and street performers, Clifden for multi-coloured shops, restaurants and bars with live Irish music, the pretty fishing village of Roundstone, the ferry to the Aran Isles, Kylemore Abbey and Walled Victorian Garden, Killary Fjord for boat trips, Lough Corrib for fishing, Connemara National Park, Connemara Heritage and History Centre, Glengowla Silver and Lead Mine, Brigit's Garden and much more.
There are three shops on the Rosmuc peninsula. You can get almost anything you may need from one of the shops, O'Malley's, which is also a Post Office.
There are also two local bars, but if you are looking for pubs with bar food and music, so that you can experience the Irish "Craic", you can find these in Clifden which is about forty-five minutes away by car.
Rosmuc is in the centre of an area known as the Gaeltacht where Irish is the first language. So when you are in Rosmuc you can expect people to be speaking in Irish. What it means is that you really are experiencing the real Ireland. But don't worry, they speak English too and are very friendly.
To eat out you will need to go a little further afield, but you can find excellent restaurants in Galway, Clifden, Roundstone and Oughterard. If you like to cook there is a fully-equipped kitchen at the cottage.
There are plenty of walks around Connemara and details of many of these are provided at the cottage. If you fancy a cycle around the Rosmuc peninsula there are two bikes in the outbuilding.
