About the property

Cottage in Hickling, Norfolk Broads, England - Walking Distance From Hickling Broad, 2 Local Pubs And The Hickling Nature Reserve.

Golebys Cottage is tucked away on a quiet lane in the pretty village of Hickling, within easy reach of the best Norfolk has to offer. Hickling boasts the biggest of Norfolks broads, a nature reserve and the superb Greyhound pub is 2 minutes walk away from the cottage. The pub is also dog friendly. Hickling has a pretty church and there are many lovely walks and cycle rides leading from it. The small town of Stalham is less than 10 minutes away, where the nearest supermarket can be found.

One of the benefits of staying at Golebys Cottage is it's location, as it is also less than 3 miles away from Norfolks stunning golden beaches, that stretch for miles and miles. Hickling is also a mere 5 miles away from the famous seal colony at Horsey Beach, which is a wonderful sight. Historic Norwich, the seaside towns of Cromer and Great Yarmouth, plus the Broads capital, Wroxham, are all within 35 minutes drive.

The cottage is a real home from home, combing old charm with modern living. Entry is via a stable door that leads to a small porchway. From here is a cosy, open plan living room, featuring a multi fuel burner, open beams and tv with integrated DVD player. Welcome baskets of coal, wood and kindling are provided free of charge, as are books, games and DVD's for relaxing evenings in. The living room also has underfloor heating.

The country kitchen includes a large pine table, wall oven, electric hob, microwave, integrated dishwasher, fridge freezer and washer/dryer. The cupboards are extremely well equipped, with everything you could possibly need in the kitchen. Some non-perishable ingredients are also included, and we also supply an iron, plus ironing board. This room also benefits from underfloor heating.

The bathroom features a full sized bath, walk in shower and electric wall heaters.

Upstairs, the master bedroom is furnished with an antique style Victorian brass bed, storage wardrobe, chest, bedside tables and an iPod dock with radio. This room also boasts underfloor heating.

The second bedroom has twin beds, a Tv with integrated DVD player, storage wardrobe, chest and electric wall heater.

The cottage has a fully enclosed, secluded, country garden, which is a riot of colour in the spring and summer. The patio table and chairs are perfect for outside meals, or relaxing in the garden. There is also a barbecue for guests to use.

All bedding, towels, electricity and underfloor heating are all included in the price, as is the free wi-fi throughout the cottage. We charge no extra for well behaved pets, but only ask they remain downstairs during the stay. Our changeover day is Saturday and short breaks are available out of peak months.

Why Jo and Phil Keenan chose Norwich

The have always loved the village of Hickling and when we saw the cottage we fell in love with it straight away. The locals are warm and welcoming and the broads, beaches and wildlife re-charge you. Norfolk is a beautiful county to visit with stunning landscapes and famous broads with a rich history. One visit is never enough!

What makes this cottage unique

Goleby's Cottage is set back from the lane and has an enclosed garden to welcome you. The property is over 250 years old and has been described as a 'Proper English Country Cottage'. Whether you are sitting on the patio enjoying the garden in the summer or snuggling up with the underfloor heating and woodburner in the winter, the cottage is cosy and comfortable all year round.

Just a 2 minute stroll, The Greyhound pub welcomes all, including children and dogs. They serve a range of food and local ales. A 15 minute stroll will take you to Hickling Broad, the largest of the broads. You will also pass the Norfolk Wildlife Trust nature reserve with a wealth of wildlife. The Pleasure Boat Inn provides great views over the broad and has a small shop for provisions.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Wow! What a perfect, comfortable, inviting, quaint cottage set in a beautiful village amongst the Broads. There is absolutely everything you could possibly need to make this cottage what it is, exceptional!

We have stayed in many cottages across the country for Christmas but Goleby's cottage is by far, the best. The owners (who were most helpful throughout, providing lots of information about everything in the area) had very kindly laid on little Christmas presents for us and our dog and decorated the cottage beautifully, the roaring fire and underfloor heating made it just that little bit more special too. The local pub (Greyhound) about 100m away was also very welcoming and a traditional country pub with great staff and food. We will be returning to the cottage this year hopefully and can not wait to get back there.

Due to having family in Norwich and also loving Norfolk we have had many visits to Nelsons county. This is the only cottage we would want to return to. Golebys is very tranquil and peaceful which allowed us to completely unwind over our 2 week stay.Because of the location we were able to pop to local beaches for dog walks as well as Broadland walks. We were also able to visit Norwich frequently to see my family and watch my beloved Norwich City.We also took in Blakeney,Cromer and Southwold. After long days out walking it was wonderful to return to by far the best equipped cottage we have stayed in .The attention to detail was second to none. We would like to thank Annie and Sean for their hospitality and also helpful communications both before and during our stay.

Golby's cottage was the perfect location for exploring the Broads and beyond. We were able to come back and relax and enjoy the comforts of the cottage after a day out. The cottage is exceptionally well equipped with everything you need for a self catering break, but also with some excellent extras such as iPod decks and WiFi. The owners Annie and Sean have clearly thought through everything to make it a relaxing stay, including a welcome pack for us and our wee dog! They really went the extra mile. We would thoroughly recommend Golby's and Hickling and we hope to return again.
