Situated in a prominent position on the outskirts of Couches, the house offers spectacular views of the undulating countryside and local vineyards. Not many villages can boast their own castle, so be sure to visit the 'Chateau Marguerite de Bourgogne' which is on the doorstep.

The 2 bedroom villa style house affords excellent facilities for the self catering holiday, with all the creature comforts of modern living in a tranquil, rural environment. The property provides 100 square metres of accommodation, including a modern kitchen with integrated appliances, purpose built laundry room with separate sink/drainer, complete with washing machine and ironing board with iron.

The open plan lounge has comfy leather sofas, English Freesat TV, high speed broadband connection, blue-tooth sound bar. Bedrooms are stylishly designed with modern, practical furniture, including comfortable beds and ample storage for personal belongings. CHILDREN STAYING WITH GUESTS MUST BE 12 YEARS OLD OR OVER. Where to start, my wife Debra and I are the owners of the holiday home you're looking at. It's my fault that we spend most of our free time in France as I used to cycle race in Brittany in my younger days and loved the whole cultural experience. The subsequent revisits to see old friends hooked us into the lifestyle and created the desire to own a property there. After exploring all corners of France we settled on South Burgundy, which from the UK is both accessible, and at the same time enjoys generally better weather giving you a definite feeling of being on holiday. We love being there, but like most UK owners can't be there all the time due to work commitments.

Why Steven Pike chose Couches

We found this house listed in the village notaire's office on the last day of a property searching trip, it had no pictures just a description, 'Pavilion, deux chambres, belle vue'. We drove up to have a look. Although neglected for some years the views were indeed amazing and I knew with a lot of hard work we could make it a lovely holiday retreat, we were smitten.

We love to relax on the south facing terrace peering into the far distance and soaking up the lovely views.

By car from Calais taking the A26 to Reims then onto Beaune it is around 640Km in total. See the further details section for a more detailed route description.

Paris Orly is around 3 hours by car, Lyon a little closer at around 2 1/2 hours.

There is a new service from Southampton to Dijon by Eastern Airways where it will only take about an hour to reach the house.


Couches (5 minutes) - Has everything you are likely to need for everyday life.

Autun (20mins) - Quiet Medieval/Roman town, very historic. Markets on Wednesday and Friday mornings.

Chalon sur Saône (20 mins) - Excellent old town centre, good shopping with lots of boutique style outlets.

Beaune (25 mins) - Saturday morning market including regional produce, very chic with some beautiful architecture.

World renowned vineyards (25 mins) Meursault, Pommard, Montrachet and Volnay.

Further Details:

Travelling by car.

Crossing the channel using either the Dover to Calais car ferry service or the very convenient Euro Tunnel, it’s then around 6.5 – 7hrs driving depending on rest stops. Some SatNavs will show routes through Paris, which may indeed be the quickest if there is no traffic, but this is rarely the case. Perhaps on a Sunday or very late at night, 10.00pm onwards, but at peak times it can be horrendous.

The preferred and much less stressful route is to take the A16 towards Reims, I would recommend a stop at Tinqueux J22, where you can refuel at Carrefour and there are plenty of outlets to have lunch.

Then set your SatNav to Eguilly 71490 and you’ll take the A26 towards Lyon and get off the toll road at Beaune, and then enjoy the scenic run in down beautiful tree lined roads past the famous vinyards of Pommard and Montrachet.

More specific directions will be included in your booking confirmation.


Eastern Airways are now offering flights from Southampton to Dijon, with departures on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays. It’s then just 50 minutes to Couches.

If not convenient, then there are flights to either Lyon (St. Exupery) or Paris (Orly). It takes around 3 hours from either along the motorway to reach the house.

Notes on accommodation: Bookings are only accepted in one week blocks from Saturday to Saturday. Children must be aged 12 years and above and pets are strictly prohibited. Outside: The entrance is via a set of gates leading from a gravel access road which feeds just five houses so is nice and peaceful. The property sits within 1/2 acre of land, with a beautiful coppice of birch, fir and maple trees in one corner. Areas close to the house have landscaped borders with pebbles and planting. Utility Room: There is a dedicated laundry room with separate sink/drainer, washing machine and ironing facilities. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: It is the responsibility of the persons renting the property to ensure that it has been left cleaned and in the condition found upon arrival. This will be verified by our location agent. Bed linen and towels can be provided at a cost £13.50 per person.

Perfect holiday home in a perfect location

This year, 2016, was our fourth stay at "Les Champs de Cloux", what more can one say?

it is a marvelous property situated atop a hill above Couches. Views from the garden are superb particularly early morning with mist rolling across the valley below.

The villa is modern and equipped to a high standard with all that is required for a wonderfully relaxing holiday. The kitchen is complete with everything needed for preparing lovely meals to be eaten on the garden

terrace. However, the area is also full of excellent restaurants along with numerous chateau, markets and with many beautiful walks.

Wine production predominates and during late September the vineyards are full of pickers and the roads are busy with tractors transporting the grapes. An superb time for wine tasting at the vineyard.

"Les Champs de Cloux" can be easily summarized as a perfect holiday home in a perfect location...

Please check availability prior to booking. A booking may be held for 48 hours (to arrange travel plans), but will expire if we don't hear from you within this period.
25% is required at the time of reservation, remainder payable 8 weeks before your visit along with £125 security deposit. This will be returned to you on confirmation of no damages and that the property has been left clean and tidy. Clean linen and towels can be provided at additional cost of £13.50 per person.

Changeover Day:
Our change-over day is Saturday. To allow time for our local agent to check the property has been left clean and tidy, we ask that our guests vacate by 10.00 am. On arrival day, please aim to be there between 3.30 pm and 8.00 pm.

Please note we do not accept children under 12 years of age.
