About Richard Taylor

I am 54 years of age and work as a Senior University Lecturer. I have spent holidays in the Polzeath / Rock area since the age of 2! and learned to swim at Daymer Bay as a 3 year old. This is a very special place and one can never tire of its timeless charm.

What makes this cabin unique

I love anything to do with the outdoors and the sea therefore this is my idea of heaven on earth. Long coastal walks, surfing at Polzeath, wreck diving, fishing, golf at the championship course at St Endoch, gastronomic food at Steins / Ainsworth's No6 and Nathan Outlaw's to name but a handful of the delights that this area has to offer.

The adjacent St Minver Holiday Park offers additional utility such as a heated indoor swimming pool and sauna, restaurant and lounge bar with entertainment, Sky sports, kid's clubs and numerous other activities.

Modern, clean, in a great setting and good location.

My family, including 2 young children, thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the lodge. Located in close proximity to the beautiful beach at Rock, we had a great base to visit the surrounding area. On the one afternoon when we had rain we used the pool on the campsite, which was modest in size but clean and provided the required entertainment.

Lovely setting,

Nice clean lodge in lovely setting,Excellent kitchen facilities and plenty of bedroom storage space. Maybe time to think about replacing sofas/cushions though as they are looking a bit shabby.Also a little disappointed that the previously mentioned (and acknowledged) issue with dining chairs still hasnt been dealt with. Didn"t use the pool or entertainment facilities but had a very nice meal at the Manor House and some great take away pizzas, Great base for exploring the area and you shold definately get the ferry from Rock and spend time looking round Padstow.We hope to visit again soon and have already told friends and family about this lodge and site,

Owner's Response: Thanks for your very positive comments about the setting and cleanliness of The Lodge, I have this comment made repeatedly by my guests, I have a really great housekeeping team and they do a splendid job. I do take on board your comments about some of the furniture and cushions, these are indeed issues which I had identified for attention and have been waiting for an opportunity to get down to Cornwall and rectify however, The Lodge has been fully booked since the beginning of May! last week however, after your stay, I spent the week there and have replaced many of the items you mention. I took delivery of four new faux leather dining chairs, new cushions and a lovely new double memory foam mattress for the master bedroom in addition to many other items which need constant updating and replacement. I am sure that if you booked in to the Lodge you would give me that extra star!

Quiet location

We enjoyed our four night stay. The lodge was very clean and spacious but we did find the mattresses and dining chairs uncomfortable! One evening we ate at the Manor House restaurant on site and the food and service was good. Take a torch if it's dark as there is minimal street lighting. When in Padstow the Cherry Trees Coffee House on the harbourside and Rick Stein's Fish and Chip restaurant are both worth a visit.

GENERALLY GOOD

ACCOMMODATION GENERALLY GOOD BUT MAIN BEDROOM SMELT DAMP INCLUDING THE MATTRESS AND CURTAINS. THE DINING ROOM CHAIRS HAD EXTREMELY WORN SEAT PADDING MAKING THEM VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. MATTRESSES WERE UNCOMFORTABLE, COULD FEEL SPRINGS. THE LODGE WAS CLEAN AND GROUNDS VERY WELL MAINTAINED AND THERE WAS LOTS OF SPACE BETWEEN EACH LODGE . STAFF ON SITE WERE FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your comments. Just to pick up on the two specific issues that you mention. Firstly the main bedroom can sometimes smell a little damp due to the adjacent en-suite shower room. If guests have long hot showers and do not have the extractor fan switched on or do not open a window to vent the steam afterwards this can lead to the formation of condensation and thus dampness. I will inspect the dining room chairs and shall replace if necessary.

Lovely lodge on a small, picturesque site

We had a wonderful holiday in Richard's lodge. The lodge is exactly as the pictures, it is well presented, clean and well equipped.

The site is also lovely. We stayed in August and although peak time, it was peaceful and had a relaxed feel. It too is clean and well maintained.

On our return we booked for next year!

Porthilly Cove (1.5 miles) is just around the corner from the Sailing Club at Rock.

Daymer Bay (1.5 miles) Great for wind surfers and for small children wanting to fish in the rock pools or play in the sand.

Polzeath Beach (3 miles) - Polzeath beach is a large expanse of beautiful sand ideal for surfers and beach enthusiasts. It is acclaimed as one of the best surfing beaches in the country.

Padstow - (2.5 miles by water taxi from Rock) Undeniably the gastronomic Capitol of Cornwall.

Travel:

The use of a car is recommended in order to access the area fully. The nearest railway station is Bodmin Parkway about 15 miles away. Newquay airport is about 20 miles away.

Further Details:

St Minver is well placed for easy access to local shops in Rock and Polzeath and the larger town of Wadebridge is 10 minutes away by car. Here there are a wider variety of shops, supermarkets and banks. The area is very well served for restaurants - Rick Stein has several in Padstow - we particularly enjoy The Waterfront and Café India in Polzeath, St Kew Inn and No 1 in Rock. Of course there are many others too numerous to mention. The ferry runs from Rock to Padstow all year and in the evening a water taxi is available to Padstow restaurants. Fishing and pleasure trips are run from the harbour. The Camel Trail (the old railway line) is fun for cyclists. It runs alongside the estuary from Padstow to Wadebridge and on to Bodmin and bikes can be hired locally. The quaint coastal village of Port Isaac (location for Doc Martin) is about 15 mins away by car. There are lots of things to do in the area - for example the Eden Project, Falmouth Maritime Museum and the legends of King Arthur at Tintagel.

Outside: The property is situated at the far end of this peaceful development and has the best south facing aspect, affording all-day sunshine which can be enjoyed on the large sun deck. Trehawks opened in 2008 and is situated in beautiful tree-lined gardens with a large fish pond and herb garden. There is access to the St Minver holiday park with all of its attractive amenities as outlined above. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen provided includes; All bedding, bath towels, hand towels and tea towels.
