2 bedroom cottage, peaceful setting, heart of the countryside,5 minutes from river walks

The cottage comprises of an open plan lounge/kitchen dining area.The kitchen is equipped with a washing machine,dish-washer,microwave,fridge freezer,gas hob and electric oven.There is a television, DVD player and Internet access. There is also a downstairs cloak-room. The patio doors lead out onto a small private court-yard with table ,chairs and BBQ. Upstairs, you will find a double bedroom and a second bedroom with 2 single beds. Each room has fitted wardrobes. There is a shower room with a W.C. and vanity unit.

Outside the cottage ,there is a parking area.

We purchased the property as a retirement project and have been restoring it since 2006. We moved here permanently in 2012 and enjoy the French way of life.

Why MALCOLM HOBBS chose Le Bugue

It is an old stone house reputed to have been built about 1610 but may well be older.The cottage is attached to the main house and in its past life,was the old cave, used to store wine and food. We started renovating this part of the house in 2014. The roof level was raised to accommodate the bedrooms and shower-room and all the beams have been replaced in oak.The property benefits from all new services, electric and water and finished to a high standard.It is light and airy and there are electric radiators and a wood-burning stove. We are ideally located in the hamlet of Malmussou Haut for you to enjoy the peace and quiet of the country-side, but also within easy distance of Le Bugue, the nearest town which has many attractions. Le Bournat which is set out as a 19th Century village an aquarium, Mini-golf, open-air swimming pool and a Tuesday night market,where you can choose from a selection of food and wine. Le Bugue has 4 large super-markets, Tuesday morning market ,doctors,dentist,launderette and various restaurants. We are on hand to help you enjoy your stay and advise you, if needed ,of places to visit in this beautiful area. We enjoy living here and we have the river just 5 minutes away for peaceful walks and fishing and canoeing in the summer.We are near enough to the town to walk or cycle.We also have a number of bicycles to lend to you, should you require them.

What makes this Cottage unique

We are just over a mile from Le Bugue, in a small hamlet, on a working farm.Le Bugue is so handy being only a 30 minute walk from us,or 5 minutes in your car, but if you need peace and quiet, this is ideal. We fell in love with the house the first time we saw it, even though it was a ruin and we spent the next 9 years renovating it.

                                                          Situated in a lovely old quiet little hamlet, we loved our stay here. This cosy gite is warm, well-equipped, spotlessly clean and has a gorgeous little courtyard. The owners were very helpful and we're looking forward to returning.

                                                          We stayed one week at this Gite, excellent location for visiting prime sites of the Dordogne like Les Eyes, Baynac, La Roque Gagnac, and Rocamador, and several cave sites. Chateaus or Castles every 5 / 10 KM, swimming close by either pool or river. Excellent road biking area both from the property and doing short drives and loops from different starting points.

                                                          Nicely re-modeled stone building, stays sufficiently cool even in hot weather if open up windows after dinner.

                                                          Very good modern shower, Washer / dishwasher. TV / DVDs (didn't use). All the necessary amenities including barbecue and private patio. Central to many of the prime sites, but quiet enough to escape the (other) tourists, and keep the costs reasonable.

                                                          Malcolm and Nicky very helpful with booking, transportation arrangements, connecting to bike rentals, advice on this historically rich region, and very good local markets in various communities (specific days), and help with internet.

                                                          Perfect for active family of 4 or couple to experience this spectacular region of France.

                                                          Nice gite with all the necessary amenities including a charcoal BBQ, GV with both British channels and DVDs provided as well as a well equipped kitchen (incl dishwasher and washing machine which makes the holiday with children so much easier).

                                                          No aircon so need to open windows at night when it's very hot. It was 38C when we were there and with appropriate opening (overnight) and closing (by mid-morning) we were fine to sleep in a cool room.

                                                          We wanted a place to escape but also be in walkable distance to a town where there were amenities and a local market and this ticked all those boxes. A 25 minute walk along the river into Le Bugue where there are lots of things to do: from canoeing [which was excellent] to a local market/coffee shops. The property was excellent and adjoined to Malcolm and Nicky,s house. Superbly restored old property with lots of character.Malcolm and Nicky were great hosts and on hand if you needed them for advice on anything but completely private if needed. The small patio was so peaceful and secluded I actually managed to read a book!We ate all our meals outside! There are many things to do in the area or a car drive away. If you were out it was always enjoyable to come back to such a lovely property. In summary a fantastic break,excellent property for us in a lovely part of the world and great hosts.

                                                          Newly renovated gite close to everything

                                                          Having stayed in many gites over the years, this one was really one of the best. It is a new restore/rebuild (completed in 2015) with lots of original charm, but with all mod cons and services. Everything is spotlessly clean, new equipment, and plumbing/heating to modern standards. This is great, if the weather obliges you to spend more time indoors than you intend (as happened to us) - it is fitted out more as a home rather than a holiday let - e.g. I counted 15 power outlets in the downstairs room. Bathroom upstairs is a delight.

                                                          The gite is located in a quiet hamlet and ideal for chilling out but only a 30 minute, virtually traffic free riverside walk, from the village of Le Bugue, or a 5 min drive if you prefer. Le Bugue is a true french village, some tourism but also mainly a village for locals with good shops, restaurants, supermarkets, and it retains all it's local charm. It has one of the best Patisserie/Choclaterie/Cafe/Bars I have come across - orange blinds and furniture just by the bridge. It is also within easy reach of many of the Dordogne tourist sites, prehistoric sites, and is midway between Bergerac and Sarlat. Ideally located.

                                                          Malcolm, the owner, lives next door and is extremely helpful while giving you all the space you desire. He is a wealth of knowledge on the local sites, walks, and things to do. He recommended many to us and was probably disappointed that we only followed up on two - but those two were great recommendations.

                                                          The site is newly renovated so everything is spotlessly clean, however it retains it's rustic charm and French cottage feel, with the added home comforts of a dishwasher, washing machine and English TV and DVD's in case of a rainy day. Located in a very quite spot but just minutes to drive into the local town of Le Bugue with lots of cafes, restaurants, markets and supermarkets. It is close to some of the major attractions in the area - the caves which are stunning, the canoeing on the river is a very well run operation, I have never seen a river quite so full, we chose the 22km route which I can now say is a long way to paddle, The aquarium and children's park with rides - we didn't visit.

                                                          The owners are friendly and helpful, going out of their way to help ensure our stay was special, they had some good suggestions on where to eat, we really enjoyed the food and service at Vezere Lodge (you can walk from the gite) the music night sounds good although we didn't get to go. Malcolm even lent us an umbrella when we had a rain shower and gave us a couple of the nicest home grown tomatoes we have ever eaten.

                                                          Overall as a couple looking to relax and chill for a week, it did the job very well, I could also see it would work well for families as there is so much to do near by. We would like to return and would recommend the property.
