Excellent costal holiday
Wonderful, open, large house with views and pleasant grounds in nice neighborhood. Close to costal pathway, local park, beaches, and town. Kitchen very well stocked, so easy to cook in or go out for meals. Hostess especially thoughtful with accommodating our infant and children, and extremely easy to work with before and during our stay. Overall, exceeded our expectations.
Great accommodation in Swanage
Excellent accommodation in Swanage. Great house with loads of room and exactly as described. Enjoyed the pool table. The bath robes were much appreciated and the sound system was also very good.
Clean and well fitted out, comfortable beds, plenty of hot water and everything in good condition.
We had absolutely no problems and would very highly recommend the accommodation.
50th Birthday - Family Celebration
I contacted Elaine just 8-weeks prior to the celebration having been let down by another property and the experience from that point was delightful. 14 of us were getting together to celebrate my wife's birthday and all of the communication between Elaine and I (supported by my daughter) was superb, speedy, really helpful responses and directions made arriving and settling into the beautiful house so simple and seamless. Upon arrival, we were delighted to find an amazing property, lovingly looked after and with attention to some of the smallest detail (for example the soaps in the rooms were locally made - loved that). We were blessed by some excellent weather during the long-weekend, and that helped make the experience for all so enjoyable (albeit supported by many bottles of bubbly) - the rooms were clean, well-maintained and bright. The living areas were spacious and full of all of the items to make live easy, plenty of utilities and cookware made things so simple, with 2 x dishwashers to assist in keeping this tidy during our stay. Some additional items which you wouldn't normally find, but added to the overall quality of the experience were a piano, a selection of guitars and recorders plus a full sized pool table which doubled up as a dining table - great idea... delighted with the property. The garden was large and spacious, the weather helped and we played garden games, including badminton and croquet, which were provided and a BBQ which included simple instructions for use and keep clean for others to use in the future. Outside of the venue, we took a walk across the coastal paths with 2 dogs and small children, that was a great experience. We also visited a local café / bar (Salt-Pig) for a Sunday lunch which was delightful, friendly and catered for local ciders and superb food and local experience. All in all, the celebration of my wife's 50th birthday could not have gone better - she had a great time, as did we all and the wine Elaine gave us as a moving in gift helped - thank you for that. 10/10 - we will visit for our 60th in a decade or so :-).
Great venue for family get together.
Brilliant property and garden. Party of 9 adults, 5 children and a baby. Lots of space for communal activities and also escapes for quiet moments. Owners extremely helpful but not at all obtrusive. Highly recommended.
The Mount is a beautiful character property in a lovely location. It is equipped with everything you could possibly need for a great get-away. My friends and I go away together for a long weekend every year and the Mount is definitely at the top of our list for a wonderful break. Although we would normally go out to eat, we found ourselves eating in in the evenings just so that we could enjoy the house. There is so much to do and see around Swanage that we are already thinking that we will need to go back. We were very lucky to have great weather but might have had a chance to make more use of the music room, games, puzzles and art materials if it had been wet! Thank you Elaine
Beautiful, well looked after spacious property.
We had a fantastic weekend as a group of friends with children. The property was well stocked and had plenty of room - the owners had been so very helpful and also provided plenty of instructions and a welcome pack. Swanage itself was lovely - the beach was perfect for the children. Fabulous place.
Two mins' walk to cliff top coastal path and Swanage Downs with views across the bay to Old Harry Rock, Isle of Wight.
Two mins' walk & then a bit of a scramble down to a pebbled 'wild beach' – our kids' favourite
Ten mins' walk down to main sandy Blue Flag Swanage beach (you can take the road, or the Downs route). This is a family beach with Punch and Judy in summer, new beach huts for hire, ice-cream kiosks, showers and WCs
20 mins walk to far beach, beyond the huts, quiet, wild & sandy
Purbeck is packed with things to do: stone carving, dry-stone walling, coasteering, kayaking, sailing, rowing, diving, snorkelling, horse-riding and trekking (along the beach at Studland), birdwatching boat trips, botany and nature walks, historical walks, astronomy events (Durlston Country Park has its own observatory), sea fishing, golf, mini golf, tennis, sea swimming, galleries and exhibitions. And of course there is the steam railway, puffing from Swanage town centre to Corfe Castle. The bus that stops right outside The Mount during the summer will drop you at the station. You can walk along the top of the chalk ridge to Corfe Castle, then catch the train home again.
Or catch an open-top bus to Studland and across the chain ferry to Sandbanks and Bournemouth town centre.
Swanage is known for its musical events including the annual jazz festival, blues festivals, folk festival and classical music performances throughout the year.
The Mowlem Theatre by the main beach shows films regularly and it's great to be able to walk home from the cinema.
There are numerous pubs in the town and nearby. Our favourite in Swanage is The Black Swan, five/ten minutes walk up the old High Street from the centre of town. It gets booked up in advance for eating, but you can enjoy a drink in the garden if there's no room indoors. We also like the lively Snack Bar for a cocktail. The Scott Arms at Kingston (a short drive or bus ride away) is our favourite out-of-towner. They do a great roast and there are wonderful views from the garden over Corfe Castle - with a Jerk Shack in the garden in warmer months. If you get a chance, do visit the famous Square and Compass pub at Worth Matravers where there is often something going on. No dining rooms, but always a pasty or veggie potato pie available and wonderful views to the sea from the stone tables in the front garden.
Lots of restaurants to choose from too - including The Salt Pig 2 on Station Road - serving all locally-sourced fare. Love Cake on the old High Street is another favourite.
