Carpenter's Cottage is conveniently located in the heart of historic Pocklington; a very short stroll from shops, restaurants, arts centre (cinema and theatre), sports centre and Burnby Hall gardens, famous for its waterlilies. It is the perfect base for visiting the nearby city of York (13 miles) by bus or car, or for walking and cycling in the Yorkshire Wolds. Underfloor heating and a wood burning stove make the cottage cosy and comfortable all year round. Hand-crafted wooden fittings and a stained glass window in the en suite double bedroom all add to its charm. There is a utility room with washer/dryer - handy for walking and cycling holidays in all weathers. The cottage has its own private courtyard, secure cycle store and off-street parking, and guests are very welcome to share our large garden and its home-grown produce.

About Helen Allen
We have lived for about 15 years in the small market town of Pocklington near York with our three children.
Helen Allen purchased this Cottage in 2001
Why Helen Allen chose Pocklington
We bought our period property (built in 1850) in Pocklington because of the town's excellent facilities, including independent shops and fabulous arts centre, and for its proximity to York and the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds. In 2010 we renovated a lovely old building in the grounds of our home, calling it Carpenter's Cottage..
What makes this Cottage unique

Fantastic. Can't recommend it highly enough.
A truly wonderful converted stable in a lovely little town. Comfortable and cosy, spotlessly clean and beautifully presented. The owners are welcoming and friendly, as are their chickens whose eggs were delicious. Breakfast in their lovely garden was a real treat. All the facilities you could ask for are a short walk away, and lovely countryside only a little further on; and it's a great base for exploring Yorkshire's many delights.
Thank you! Great that you found the cottage and Pocklington to be such an appealing base.
Carpenter’s cottage was welcoming, warm and clean. It was peaceful and met our needs perfectly.
Helen and Patrick were perfect hosts: very welcoming, kind and available but allowing us to have a quiet and peaceful holiday. We loved the fresh eggs from their hens.
The cottage is very endearing and has everything we needed for a comfortable stay. There were added touches such as hand crafted furniture by Patrick that made it all the more characterful.
From our cottage we were able to walk into Pocklington which had some lovely cafes and shops to explore. We enjoyed Burnby Hall gardens despite the weather and York was easily accessible by bus.
We would highly recommend a stay at this cottage and will definitely book here again, we are already looking at dates!
Thank you so much! It was lovely to meet you both and we look forward to seeing you again.
Fab u Lous Darling!!
Patrick and Helen were excellent hosts and the cottage has everything needed for a short or extended break.
Great location with easy access to York, Castle Howard and stunning countryside.
The log burner was a big hit with us after long cold days visiting the city and Castle Howard.
We have no negative comments at all.

Another great stay
We have recently spent 3 nights here. It was perfect for us, close to lovely walking/cycling areas and also near the centre of Pocklington. The cottage had everything we needed and was spotlessly clean. The owners are very friendly and helpful. This was our 2nd time here and we will be back again, so much to see and do in the area plus knowing you have a lovely cottage to come home to.
Perfect little bolt-hole
The cottage in Pocklington was cosy, spotlessly clean, comfortable and quiet and had everything we needed for our stay. Pocklington is a lovely little town with plenty of cafes restaurants and amenities. perfectly placed between York and the coast.
Had a great week at 'Carpenter's Cottage. It was home from home and everything u needed was at hand even the use of owners garden were you can talk to the chickens and we also got to taste their eggs ❤️ A beautiful wood burner stove for cosy nights in with a large supply of wood for your use. Everything was immaculately clean and there was a supply of towels, soap, shampoo, shower gel, toilet rolls etc. Plus a great selection of books to read. Good secure off road parking and 100 Metre walk you are in the town of Pocklington with lots of lovely shops, restaurants, cafes and Burnley Hall Gardens were you can spend a lovely day walking round the lily ponds and gardens and then enjoy a lovely meal or coffee or ice-cream in the lovely restaurant . Very convenient for visiting York were you can get the bus or use the handy 'park and ride' to save you worrying about where to park your car costing us £9.80 approx. Helen and Patrick are very friendly and are very close by but also giving u your own space, if you need anything were nothing is a bother.
Pocklington is easy to reach by bus and car. There is a regular bus service to York, Hull, Beverley and Driffield Pocklington is a thriving and pretty market town which is well served with local shops including butchers, bakers, greengrocer, cafes, restaurants, vintage goods, boutiques, banks, 2 supermarkets and a convenience store - all within walking distance of the cottage. In addition, there is a market every Tuesday. The arts centre hosts well known artists and comedians and screens many of the latest films. York is within a short drive, park and ride or bus ride from Pocklington and is a fabulous day out. Burnby Hall gardens and museum with its stunning waterlily lakes is close to the cottage, and in Summer hosts brass band concerts. For walkers and cyclists, Pocklington is right at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds - the landscape that inspires artist, David Hockney - and there are many beautiful walks and rides from your doorstep.
