|Minimum Stay||4 - 7 nights|
Casa Vista is a first floor apartment, offering breathtaking panoramic sea views from the living room, balcony and master bedroom. From the balcony, which has a table and 4 chairs for you to eat outside or relax and enjoy the views, glass doors open onto both the living area and the main bedroom. The living/dining room has a dining table and comfy seating for 4, together with a 34 inch flat screen TV and DVD/CD player for your entertainment. Beyond lies the fitted kitchen with gas hob, microwave oven, full-size fridge-freezer, electric coffee maker and toaster. The master bedroom has a queen size double bed (190 x 150 cm) and roomy fitted wardrobes, whilst the smaller twin room has two single beds (190 x 90 cm). The sofa in the living room can also be used as a single bed and a travel cot can be arranged for a baby if needed (5 € per week or part thereof. Maximum occupancy is thus 4 adults or 2 adults and 3 children. Between the bedrooms is a modern shower room with WC and basin.
Our apartments are situated in a small, friendly but very peaceful development of just 11, built in a modern interpretation of traditional, whitewashed Canarian architecture. We are in a secluded location, well away from any other buildings, situated directly above a safe, sandy beach and sheltered, tidal lagoon, ideal for lazy days soaking up the sun. Residents have either a south or west-facing terrace (ground floor) or balcony (upper floor) with panoramic ocean views and use of the sub-tropical communal garden with its dragon trees, bougainvillea, oleander and hibiscus, from which it is down just 5 steps onto the white sands of a small bay edged by black lava reefs and with crystal-clear, warm water.
Inside the apartments each have 2 bedrooms, one with a queen-size double bed and the other with two singles. There is ample storage in the fitted wardrobes. Either a sofa bed in the living room or a folding 'Z-bed' is available for a child free of charge and a cot and high chair can be hired locally from the manager if required for a small fee of 20 € per stay.
Each apartment has a pleasant, recently-refurbished shower room with a white suite (some with bidet) and a recently-fitted and fully-equipped kitchen with either electric or gas hob (some have an oven), fridge-freezer, microwave oven, electric coffee maker and toaster, together with all the pots and pans, crockery, cutlery, etc. you would expect to find in a self-catering holiday property.
From the living/dining room, where you will find a sofa and armchair(s) and a digital TV/Radio withe DVD/CD player, French windows open onto the terrace or balcony which has a table and 4 chairs (together with 2 sun loungers in ground floor apartments.)
Bed linen and hand, bath and kitchen towels are supplied and changed weekly. Please bring your own beach towels with you (or beach towel hire is available cheaply from the Lavanderia El Cotillo in the Calle 3. abril de 1.979.
WiFi internet access is provided for guests' use.
Our apartments should appeal to those who dislike crowds and big holiday resorts, who don’t insist on all the latest gadgets, but are happy to live quite simply for a week or two right by the sea. A treat for families with younger kids, older couples in search of a get-away from-it-all location, naturists, sun-worshippers, bird-watchers and walkers.
El Cotillo itself remains a traditional fishing village with tourist facilities rather than an overgrown resort. There are about a dozen restaurants, mostly Canarian with a couple of Italian places (including what are supposed to be, according to the guide books, Fuerte's best Italian restaurant and best beach bar). The majority of restaurants have terraces overlooking the sea and very fresh, locally-caught fish is obviously the big draw on most menus. There are several bars, both traditional Canarian tapas places and a couple of (pretty quiet!) ex-pat 'pubs', a large new supermarket, a good bakery/patisserie (currently in French ownership), a bank with ATM, as well as several general/souvenir places. The village is alos home to an increasing number of individual craft shops and artists working in various media.
In other words, most of your everyday needs can be catered for locally. The nearest petrol station is, however, about 15 minutes drive away at La Oliva, and the next nearest in Corralejo. Petrol prices in the Canaries are much lower than in the rest of Europe, so don’t get caught out – fill up when you’re passing.
Regular bus services also link El Cotillo with both Corralejo and Puerto del Rosario but, given the secluded location of the apartment, a hire car is really recommended and as with petrol, car hire prices are competitive compared to mainland Europe.
El Cotillo has some of the best beaches in the Canaries, including a vast stretch of sand on the so-called 'Big Wave Beach' to the south of the village and a whole series of beautiful, small, sheltered coves with brilliant white sand and clear turquoise sea to the north around El Caleton. These are divided from each other and protected from the waves of the open sea by lava stone reefs and thus provide safe bathing, even for little ones. Please note that naturism is very popular along this stretch of coast and you must expect to see naked bodies on most stretches of beach.
El Cotillo has fast road connections to the island network, making a shopping trip to the capital (40 minutes) or an evening in Corralejo (20 minutes) popular excursions. The dramatic central mountains, with historic villages such as Antigua, Betancuria, Pajara or Tefia, with their museums and craft centres, are all under an hour by car. Likewise Caleta de Fuste and its golf courses. Other possible excursions include a trip to the island of Lobos from Corralejo, or take the ferry over to Lanzarote for the day (hourly departures, also from Corralejo.)
Recreational activities available nearby include walking (we are directly on the much-recommended north coast Corralejo-Cotillo walk), cycling (hire in El Cotillo), fishing, surfing, windsurfing (surf centres in Cotillo whilst nearby Lajares with its surf shops and surf schools is Fuerte's 'surfing capital'), diving (dive centre in Corralejo) and of course, swimming and snorkeling straight from the door.
In general, Fuerte will appeal above all to those who love beaches – the island's are easily the best in the Canaries and some of them are truly world-class. So if you’re a sun-worshipper or a beachcomber, a keen windsurfer or snorkeller, this is the place for you. Everyone talks about the wind, and yes, it can be breezy here, but the key thing is the sun. Fuerte has longer sunshine hours on average than Tenerife or Gran Canaria and only a fraction of their average rainfall. Those in search of peace and quiet, something which can now be hard to find on the more developed westerly Canary Islands, will also love Fuerte. It’s a big place (nearly the size of Tenerife) but with a small population. The roads are well-built but very quiet, making hiring a car a pleasure, and you can really escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life, be it on a deserted white beach or in the stark, striking mountains of the interior, which have a beauty all of their own.

This property is situated virtually on the beach....and being on the west coast affords unimpeded views of the most wonderful sunsets. Access to the beach is easy...it is on your doorstep and there are lovely walks locally around the coast. In addition there is a local beach restaurant and a more upmarket fish restaurant within easy walking distance. If you want a completely relaxing week this is the place but do not expect high end luxury. The apartments are clean and functional. Being a little remote the property has its own rather noisy generator. Wifi is rather intermittent. All the little negatives are worth the position. ... there is no better position on the island
Excellent time spent, very calm and relaxing. Fantastic views.
Communication and directions to the property were spot on ( even navigating in hire car in the dark after flight delay )
Location, Location and Views are wonderful.
The apartment very pleasant, everything you could need.
Mosquitos are a negative. Things, equipment to deal with them should be supplied foc. You are the experts, your visitors are not.
The umbrella and small beach seats were very welcome. Although a stand to be able to put the brolly up on the balcony would be a good addition.
We would return and would definitely recommend to friends.
Perfect location for enjoying the beach and wonderful sunsets.
Apartment complex well maintained and clean. Only drawback for me was that there is not much privacy as all the apartments are next to each other and walls are quite thin. So you can hear all the neighbors.
The apartment itself is quite comfortable but the kitchen and furniture could use an update as things are worn and old. Also, absolutely no ventilation or fan is provided with temps over 30 degrees so nights are very hot and uncomfortable.
For a short stay the place is acceptable and it is family friendly.
The apartments are located directly above a salt-water, tidal lagoon with white sand beach (a matter of a few steps from your accommodation.) This is protected from the open Atlantic by a lava-stone reef and so ofters safe paddling for small children and good swimming at full tide. A couple of hundred metres on foot, the blue flag Playa de la Concha offers safe bathing at all tides and there are numerous other lagoons to explore nearby. PLEASE NOTE: ALL BEACHES LOCALLY ARE CLOTHES OPTIONAL/FKK so you will inevitably see a lot of naked bodies!
The island is served by a modern airport (FUE) just south of the capital Puerto del Rosario, 48 kms/45 mins drive from us. There are scheduled, charter and budget (Ryanair and Easyjet) flights from many European airports.
Another possibility is to fly to Lanzarote (ACE) and onwards by taxi or hire car and ferry (Playa Blanca to Corralejo) but do note that the last ferry in the evening is quite early - we don't want you stuck on the wrong island overnight!
Hire cars and taxis are easily obtainable at the airport or we can arrange private transfers at competitive rates.
A hire car IS recommended. The walk into the village along the beach is very pleasant but maybe not so good on the return trip with heavy shopping bages or in the dark (no street lights).
We are approx.1 km north of El Cotillo, where you will find a range of shops for your everyday needs plus a choice of good restaurants.
The major resort of Corralejo with its shopping, nightlife, water park etc. is some 24 kms away
The island capital, Puerto del Rosario, is around 40 kms and has much improved shopping facilities and sightseeing.
The central mountains with pretty villages as Betancuria, Antigua and Pajara, home to museums and craft centres, are around one hour's drive.
El Cotillo offers a large supermarket (Superrdino) with greengrocery, butchery and deli counters. Open 9 am to 9 pm, 7 days a week. There are also a couple of minimarkets with longer hours (also open 7 days).
The village also has a very good French bakery (El Goloso) open daily from early.
There is a bank with an ATM in the calle 3.4.1979.
Also a wide range of general and souvenir shops and an increasing number of interesting art and craft shops and boutiques.
Surf and bike hire available in El Cotillo village.
Nearest pharmacy (English speaking) is in Lajares.
Doctors and dentists in Corralejo (also English and German speaking).
Nearest petrol staions are in Corralejo or la Oliva so don't let your petrol tank run too low. Fuel is much cheaper than in Europe so make sure to fill up when you are passing.
El Cotillo has numerous restaurants, most of which could be described as 'Canarian' or 'Italian'. Most offer outside terraces and sea views and of course fresh, locally-caught fish plays a big part on many menus.
