Everything has been thought of

  • 5 of 5

Elizabeth & Nick have obviously spent time researching what a holiday cottage should be, and then put it together. Everything had been thought of - scones and jam as a welcome, free range eggs, fully equipped kitchen, seriously comfortable beds, guide books, reading books, maps, dog friendly, storage for kit; be it bikes, boats or something else, and the cream for us as canoeists - a drying room :-) A fantastic welcome, a clean, comfortable cottage and dry kit every morning, we left very happy after our week stay. A great location for Tees, Tyne, Eden, Allen and even the Lake District, if we're back in the area, we'll be in touch. Thank you once again :-)

Beautiful cottage with amazing views

  • 5 of 5

We just had the most perfect week away in this beautiful cottage. The views from every window are wonderful both day and night, and the owners Nick and Elizabeth are so welcoming, and their local knowledge was invaluable. Our three year old son enjoyed every minute of our stay especially checking the hens in the morning to see if they had laid eggs.

The cottage is within walking distance (across some fields or via a quiet road) to the pretty market town of Middleton-in-Tessdale where there are plenty of good restaurants a couple of pubs, a (brilliant) butchers, a convenience store, and a few interesting shops for browsing.

The cottage itself was warm, spotlessly clean with a nice kitchen area with every utensil you would need. The bedrooms are a good size, with comfortable beds (the bed in the master room is HUGE) and the bathroom again is spotless with a nice shower. There is an added bonus of use of a washing machine and tumble dryer, and a place to store your walking gear if the weather is against you.

The real gems of this property are the owners who are just lovely, it will be a while before my son stops talking about what an amazing time he had.

There is a lot to do on your doorstep, plenty of beautiful walks and a waterfall to visit on everyday of your stay. Cauldrons snout should not be missed, and the Strathmore Arms pub in Holwick a few minutes drive from the cottage is also well worth a visit.
