About EMMA MCGRIGOR
I have lived here on the farm all my life. I am married to Jamie (who was also brought up on Loch Awe on a neighbouring farm) and we have 4 children. We are both very knowledgeable about the area and can give you endless ideas of how to spend your days in Argyll.
EMMA MCGRIGOR purchased this Cottage in 1949
Why EMMA MCGRIGOR chose Inveraray
The property has been lived in by a series of farming families, shepherds, milkmen, cattlemen over the last 100 years. We now let this house when we are not there ourselves. It has great character and you will enjoy it here. Achlian sits above Loch Awe and is easily accessed by a tarmac drive off the main Dalmally - Inveraray road. It is a private and peaceful location on a working farm, you can choose to spend the days quietly in the garden reading or take a trip to Oban, Loch Lomond, Glen Coe, Crinan Canal, the Isles of Mull and Iona, Inveraray Castle and Jail, Oban Distillery, Inverawe Smokehouse, Cruachan Power Station (the hollow mountain) - the choices are endless. The roads are quiet here, getting around is easy
What makes this Cottage unique
Achlian Farm was featured in the BBC series This Farming Life in 2016. You will see farming activities most days

We really enjoyed our stay in the cottage. It was a nice getaway from the big city stress. The house was clean, but might need a bit of work here and there, nevertheless the cottage felt really warm and welcoming with all it's nice decoration, paintings and photographs.
We had everything we needed in the house, and the location is just perfect above the Loch Awe and amidst farmland with cattle and sheep strolling around in the hills above the cottage.
The house is satisfactory in what it offers,in a very convenient location for many lovely walks
We were a little disappointed when we arrived as the house was not as good as the pictures suggested. Although it is warm and cosy for a winter break, the decoration can only be described as very tired. It would take little in the way of cost to give everything a new coat of paint which would really help however the kitchen felt like it needed a makeover of new units and new tiles at the very least. It would also be better if it didn't feel like the dumping ground for some of the owners clutter: many pots of paint and excess furniture for example. Overall and compared to other self catering cottages we have used this felt way overpriced.
Thank you for your review.
Yes, there are pots of paint in the large walk in storage cupboard under the stairs. They are there, along with the cot, high chair, vacuum, dustpan and brush, hot rails, extra blankets, spare lightbulbs, etc. We use this cottage for our family when it is not let out, but we do not leave any of our belongings there, apart from DIY stuff in this one cupboard
The cottage has been repainted upstairs (May 2017)
I would ask people to look carefully at the photos, all taken on my iphone, as they are a real representation of the cottage. There is no extra furniture in the cottage that is not in the photos.
I am happy to supply more photographs if requested.
Amazing cottage, great views, riendly hostess
The place was amazing and Emma was friendly and helpful. Great views and nie walks. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely come again.
