Serene stay on the lake

We enjoyed our stay immensely here in Sala Comacina. The home was exactly as advertised and it was a delight to wake up to the views each morning. The village is bar far the prettiest on the lake unspoiled by the tourist masses yet with all the amenities we needed such as restaurants (tirlindana on the lake was a favourite of ours), the wine bar Tout Paris, and an excellent bakery and mini market plus a superb butchers. Plus the supermarket is a 5 minute drive. I would love to return in the summer when the weather is warmer although we enjoyed winter sun by day and cosying up by the far at night with a nice glass of valtellina local red wine. We would love to return some day and thank you Julie for all her help during our visit.

Fantastic place.

Fourth visit (5-day Mon-Fri), good as ever (see previous review).

Apartment was clean and tidy.

More equipment available this time, several camp-beds/sun-loungers, inflatable mattresses (not needed by us).

You can't really go wrong with any of the local Restaurants, although at this time of year (Sep), some of them won't be open every day.

Had the best Calamari I've ever tasted at La Tirlindana Restaurant.

Out of the gate, cross the road, down the steps and turn right, three minute walk from the Apartment.

Another Restaurant worth a visit is the Red And White Wine Bar in Tremezzina, 10 min drive (depending on traffic) from Sala Comacina.

Great food, great staff.

Another in Sala worth a look is the Sala Comacina Restaurant, 10 minute walk South from Apartment, same building as the Banco Popolare Di Sondrio.

Great food, but be patient with the service, was only one Lady waiting tables when we went, I think it was the owner, she obviously takes great pride in her work.

Pass the time gazing out over the Lake from your table, or watch the Kitchen staff in action through the serving window.

Small portions, but perfectly prepared and presented.

Try the Bar next-but-one to the Bank as well, most weeks (depending on time of year) I believe they do a Hog Roast.

Had a couple of brief swims in the Lake this time, once in Sala, another just outside Lecco on the Bellagio road.

Do a bit of research if you want to do the same though, certain parts of the Lake are supposedly quite dirty.

Winter break on the lake

We were so lucky with the weather and stayed with friends. we had 7 days of sunny weather, clear blue skies and a perfect break. We enjoyed the log fire and the pretty lake views.

The booking was very simple, and the agent met us and gave us some local tips, we would love to return again some day.

Perfect winter get away.

We have just returned from a much needed 5 day break at this wonderful home in Sala Comacina. We were met on arrival by Elena who showed us around the home and all its workings and ensured we were completely settled in. The house has spectacular lake views and offered the perfect tranquil retreat to re charge our batteries. The property was immaculately presented and we enjoyed cosy nights in next to the fireplace which was a real treat. Our favourite restaurant was Tirlandana which we walked to most night and can recommend the local wine bar also in the village. I would also like to thank Lori for her assistance in the booking. The pay pal payment was very easy and straight forward to use being a first time user.

We would love to return and have already recommended this home to our friends for the Summer.

November holiday

The property views were stunning; however, many issues exist. Owner policy is to wire transfer 75% upfront (= longer confirmation and transfer fees). The remaining 25%, plus cleaning, booking, heating and a “refundable security bond” all due in cash upon arrival (= more bank charges/ATM fees). The booking agent initially forgot to inform us about the heating fee. Use electronics conservatively (only 2 items at a time). Part of the reason we rented the unit during the winter was for the fireplace feature but were told upon arrival that it does NOT actually work. The house contained only partial toilet paper roles for each bathroom, so we purchased some the next morning. No trash bins existed in either bathroom (the top bathroom has less than 1.5 meter clearance above the toilet). The bathtub on the 2nd floor was dirty (spiders/loose dirt), so we cleaned it for use. The dishwasher contained dirty dishes, so we washed and put away. Ants were seen initially on the counters, so food was stored in the fridge thereafter. The Bialetti espresso machine worked sporadically. The clothes dryer does not work, but the washer does. Operating manuals for the stove/other appliances were in a kitchen drawer and were life savers (the stove was NOT intuitive). Hot water only for 1-2 short showers, new hot water is available after 2 hours. We contacted the property management after a full day in the unit when small issues added up to aggravations. Cleaning staff were sent; however, without confirming it was okay to do so. The staff member entered the unit when one of us was sleeping, who was alarmed when staff knocked and entered the premises. Policy should be to NEVER enter a rental property without explicit prior permission from the renters, except in case of emergency. During communication, I noted my property management experience and that a few inconveniences are not major, but many will off-set the positive reviews. They inquired: “For the purpose of clarification, whether you will write a negative review, should you not receive a discount?” I declined a discount in deference to writing an honest review. We were allowed a 2-hour late check-out, with reminding that this was typically beyond policy without an additional fee. Management looked over the property, and returned our security bond cash deposit. I recommend more flexible check-in policies, professional cleaning policies, and property management coordination and communication.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We did not receive any communication regards any issues at the home until day 3 of your stay, when you mentioned a few of these issues. We immediately replied to you confirming we would send our cleaner to check the home and ask the house manager to contact you to resolve any issues. The cleaner called to the home the same morning, but was told no further cleaning was now required. The cleaner left additional toilet tissue and waste bags for you. The house manager contacted you and was also informed there were no issues to resolve. All items in the home have been checked and are in full working order. We do not advertise a dryer, only a hairdryer which we confirm is fully operational. As you mention, operation instructions are available in the home as we understand electrical items operate differently here in Europe compared to your home in the U.S.A. If you had requested the house manager assist you in any way they would be happy to do so. Electrical items work on a different voltage in Italy so all electrical items may not work if used together. This is normal for the majority of italian properties. For clarification, payment is usually required in full 12 weeks prior to your stay. Your reservation was made 4 weeks prior to your arrival, hence the payment request confirmed and agreed by yourselves at the time of booking. We accept payment by bank transfer or PayPal. The damage bond can be paid in Euros or your own currency, if requested at the time of reservation, being returned on departure. Heating is charged for out of season bookings and is mentioned on the advert. To confirm the late 12.00 check out was agreed without additional charge. As you arrived closer to 11pm, 5 hours after the agreed check in time, this would normally constitute an additional payment for which you have not been charged. The house manager suggested that you used the heating only, as you had paid for the service as your stay only comprised 3 full days. The fireplace works and instructions are located next to it. We received a further communication at the end of your stay stating how a negative review can have a devastating effect on future bookings hence this was the reason we asked your intention of posting a negative review as to date reviews have been positive. We request, if any guest has an issue during their stay, to contact our house manager immediately to solve any matter promptly and with the minimum of disruption to your stay.

What a view! What a location!

This home is a perfect base to explore Lake Como, and beyond.

This was our third visit, will definitely be coming again (just try and keep us away!).

Stunning views from the front of the property, we could happily just sit and stare for hours, it's quite difficult to take it all in there's just so much to look at!

Plenty of good Cafés and Restaurants nearby (within a short walk), and a couple of supermarkets within a few Km/Miles.

Home is spacious and clean, kids will love staying in the top room too.

Can't fault the property.

Don't forget your travel plugs/adaptors!

Barrie (the Manager) was very helpful, gave us lots of good tips on places to eat and visit, and was happy to answer our (many) questions.

As stated, this is our third visit, and we've not found a Restaurant or attraction we've no loved.

You could stay here without having your own transport, but we think you'd miss out on some truly spectacular sights, especially if you're like us and love to travel around.

Best trips for us? The drive up to Sighignola, the 'Balcony of Italy'.

Breathtaking views over Lake Lugano and the surrounding areas, pictures can't do it justice.

The drive to Monte Bisbino, North of Cernobbio, a smaller version of Sighignola, with views into Switzerland and the Southern end of Lake Como, and Como itself.

The drive (or ride, we were on a rented Moto Guzzi for this one, definitely the best way to do it!) out to the Stelvio Pass, second highest in the Alps. North-East of Lake Como, and a good 2-3 hours drive in a car, depending on time of week/year, and traffic.

Check it's open before you go though.

You can't really go wrong driving around the Lake, the views are stunning no matter where you are.

The area as you would expect is flanked by many pretty harbours, shingle beaches amidst glorious lakeside scenery. The home is located in the idyllic village of Sala Comacina. The lakefront, our favourite restaurant "tirlindana" and park are all just a few minutes walk from the home.

The exclusive and beautiful beach in Lido di Lenno is just 5 minutes north drive of the apartment. Enjoy a cocktail whilst lazing under a canopy or hire a boat and enjoy a champagne lunch on board!

Travel:

Malpensa, Milan 50 minutes. Linate, Milan 1 hour. Bergamo, 1 hour 45 minutes. Full directions supplied on request and with every reservation.

Distances:

Como town (30 minutes drive). A lakeside town par excellence with typical italian piazza's, cafes & restaurants a plenty for delcious italian delacies or just a spot of people watching. We're just a boat ride from Bellagio or the Isola Comacina, a romantic island which you can view from the balcony

Further Details:

Nearest supermarket is Dimeligio's in Lenno (5 minutes north of the lake).

Lake view dining just a few minutes walk. The isola comacina island where you can dine under the stars or sunshine is just a short ferry journey from the village. There is a park here in Sala is ideal for children to play plus another park is located a very short drive from the home in near by ossuccio.
