Ideally placed, just 1km from the sea, La Carrade is an ancient Provençal farmhouse set in its own extensive grounds. One of the last remaining substantial properties on the Côte d'Azur, the villa is set in more than 35 hectares of typical Mediterranean 'maquis' woodland, among parasol pines, cypresses, cork and green oaks, and briar. The house was completely transformed by architect Francois Spoerry into a modern villa, with his particular sympathy for preserving its ambiance and original charm, a vernacular he later used when building Port Grimaud, nearby. The large swimming pool (16x7m), has a shady pool house. You are only 20km from St Tropez and there are many places to see in the back-country too. Just minutes away, aside from the many beaches, you can explore local hill villages and their markets, visit Gassin golf course, or the new luxury Spa at Ramatuelle. And then opportunities abound to sample the wines in some of the most celebrated vineyards on the Côtes de Provence.

What makes this Villa unique
The Villa is very close to the sea and between the 2 local villages of Cavalaire and La Croix Valmer while offering an unusually secluded situation. The size of the property and its extensive woodlands allow you to feel away from it all, separated from the surrounding heavily developed coastland.

This is a truly exceptional property. The grounds are stunning, and it's entirely private - the only sounds you will hear are the birds and the crickets. The pool is enormous and it's setting is simply beautiful. The house itself is well equipped and due to the age of the property and the thickness of the walls, it remains cool in the summer (we were there in June/July). La Croix Valmer is very quaint and has everything you need (butcher, baker and small supermarket), although you do really need a car to get to it. The weekend market is huge - I'd say it's bigger than it's equivalent in St Tropez - it's a lovely morning out and not to be missed. The closest beach is a 15-20 minute walk and it's lovely, with some really nice bars and restaurants. Ste Maxime and St Tropez are a 25 minute drive away but there are regular buses that go direct. We did the bus to St Tropez for an afternoon of shopping etc, then the boat from St Trop to St Maxime for dinner at Maxime Plage, and a cab home from there. It was a really fabulous day out. Overall this is an amazing place to stay with family and friends and we'd love to return.
