About the property

Happisburgh, Stalham - Quiet village location 10 minutes to the beach

Pet friendly period cottage in the heart of Happisburgh, with its iconic lighthouse, on the Norfolk coast. Albion Cottage is situated just outside the church gates in the centre of the village on a very quiet lane. Perfect for summer breaks or winter escapes alike, this charming, elegant cottage is ideally located just 10 minuets from a glorious sandy beach. It is located adjacent to the owners' home in one of Norfolk's most picturesque coastal villages.

The cottage has a drawing room which features a handsome open fire, a dining room with a cosy log burner, a conservatory and a chiming courtyard garden. The decoration throughout is heaven with its William Morris wallpapers and coverings and fine pieces of victorian furniture.

The cottage has 2 bedrooms which sleep 3 adults and a baby/toddler or 2 adults with 2 children and a baby/toddler or 4 adults (1 adult in a bed settee in the living room). We welcome pets - up to 2 large dogs, 3 medium or small dogs, 2 cats and any pet in a cage - and charge £25 per dog or cat per visit

The village itself is now famous for the oldest evidence of human activity outside of Africa with footprints discovered on the beach to be over 900,000 years old.

The cosy local pub, within 50 meters of the cottage, echoes the local connection with 'Sherlock Holmes' author Arthur Conan Doyle who visited many times and wrote one of his books here.

If you have a larger party this property can be booked in conjunction with The Gig House at a special rate.

Why Liz Dixon chose Norfolk & The Broads

Happisburgh is the village I live in and is one of the most interesting places in Norfolk from it's iconic lighthouse, its crumbling cliffs to the earliest evidence human footprints outside of Africa, it constantly surprises!

What makes this cottage unique

I feel that Albion Cottage has a unique interior - I am certain that you will not find another cottage with a similar wealth of William Morris patterns and Victorian furniture.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Peter

Lovely cottage in the heart of a lovely, peaceful Norfolk village. On a small quiet road the Victorian themed cottage is next door but one to the ancient St Mary's church. The cottage itself is fully and completely equipped with everything you may need. Two tvs, several radios, a kitchen with modern appliances, and a newly installed bathroom complete the experience. The owner, Liz, is welcoming and friendly. The village offers cliff top, beach and countryside walks. No light pollution - an extremely peaceful location. Highly recommended.

The cottage was just as we'd imagined from the photographs - atmospherically decorated, well appointed and cosy. It feels a bit like stepping back in time, but with all mod cons included. I'm sure it'd be great in winter with a fire on the go and candles lighting the room. Albion Cottage is right next to Happisburgh's beautiful church, and a short distance from the beach damatically covered in erosion breakers. We found good walks and eating places not too far from the village.

Anyone supplying a (lovely) complimentary clotted cream tea on arrival gets my vote, and Liz was very welcoming, giving us our info and letting us know she would be on hand if needed (plus a pint of milk). Fantasic place.

A charming Victorian cottage in a lovely village with a dog friendly local just a minute away and a great beach 10 minutes away. Liz was a very good host and has taken great care in ensuring a home from home with kitchen essentials, bathroom luxuries and a great finish on this cute cottage.

Relaxing holidays

Lovely cottage, great location and had everything you could possibly wish for.

We were greeted by fresh scones and Jam and a lovely vase of fresh flowers.

A 5 minute walk to the beach and the costal path, you can walk miles along empty beaches even in August!

Beautiful cottage in a lovely village

  • 5 of 5

This is our second stay at Albion Cottage so far this year. The cottage very pretty and thoughtfully furnished in a Victorian style, with interesting details and a good collection of books. It also has the modern comforts of a DAB radio and good quality appliances. The patio garden is a real suntrap and, if the weather is not warm, there is a bright conservatory to sit in. We had a lovely cream tea to welcome us, and the cottage is well equipped with basics like tea bags, tea towels, spare toiletries etc. Liz, the owner, popped round to say hello, and is on hand if you need her.

Happisburgh is an attractive, friendly village. The pub is only two minutes away, and very welcoming. The area has lots to commend it: the Vicarage Gardens in nearby East Ruston are worth a visit, and the beach is a good walk if you have dogs.

We really enjoyed our stay here, and will return at some point.

Lovely cottage in a very peaceful village

  • 5 of 5

Albion Cottage is well equipped and the owners are very welcoming, home made scones a particularly nice touch. The cottage is perfectly located in the village, just a few minutes stroll to the local pub, which serves good food and about 10 minutes walk to the beach.
