Cottage in West Buckland, Nr. Kingsbridge, South Devon, England - Peaceful Location 5 Mins To Bantham Beach, Pub & Shop And Thurlestone Village, Golf & Tennis

Grove Cottages is our family holiday home which we completely renovated for our personal use in 2008. The house is furnished with original art work and a mixture of modern and restored vintage furniture, it has a large private wooded garden which we have been returning to its former glory since 2004 including installing two large ponds. The cottage is conveniently located for Bantham beach and estuary where it is possible to go surfing, sailing, kayaking, swimming, fishing and 'rock pooling' in a wonderful unspoilt environment. Thurlestone is also very close and here you will find, golf, tennis, a hotel (for spa treatments, fine dining and cream teas), pub, Post Office and shop. Recent work commitments have made it impossible to use the cottage as much as we would like and so we have decided to make it available to others as we hate to see it sitting empty. Outside in the gardens there are two large patios furnished for outside eating with a gas BBQ, open fireplace and a big Jamie Oliver wood-fired pizza oven. Wifi is accessible throughout the cottage.

Our usual changeover day is Friday but we try to be flexible where possible

A beautiful and fantastically equipped cottage in a great location..This is a perfect cottage, beautifully maintained and with all the facilities we could have need. It was very homely, spacious and I still have kitchen-envy!! Carolyn, Windsor



Stunning House in lovely location...The owner ?architect? ..sympathetically converted a stunning large detached house. The end result is lovely. Picturesque outside with spacious open plan accommodation inside.



For sharers the bedrooms are all great and superbly appointed so nobody gets "the little room" etc. For families the orientation/layout is great as you can locate the children as far away or close as you like! There is a lovely en-suite bedroom on the ground floor if anyone struggles with stairs.



Everything in the house is top notch. A beautiful proper Aga stove, in a huge kitchen dining room. There is also a large fridge and freezer, smart electric hob, microwave etc. In the living room there is a big television and wifi.



The house is surrounded by beautiful gardens . At the back of the house there is a series of lovely stepped terraces with barbecues and fire pits which are a very romantic place to chill out at the end of day watching shooting stars. At the front the garden is massive. It has a vegetable patch, little wood, duck pond and very large lawn area. The proper wood burning pizza oven is the centrepiece of this bit. If you've ever witnessed how men suddenly spring into life when cooking with fire over a BBQ is involved you won't be disappointed .... Surprisingly its also pretty easy to get the knack, bit like making pancakes.... the first couple are "different" but you soon get to the point of making the most delicious pizzas. Cinnetti, London

Notes on accommodation: Usual Changeover day is Friday, but this can be flexible. NB Christmas & New Year 2015/16 The changeover date between these 2 weeks will be Sunday, 27th December Sorry no pets and no smoking Outside: At the front of the cottage there is one acre of woodland gardens with two ponds (and a resident family of ducks), vegetable plot, pizza oven and a large patio with dining table and chairs. Part of this garden is wild with Woodpeckers, Buzzards, Nuthatches, Dunnocks and lots of other lovely woodland birds and there is a small stream running at the bottom. At the rear of the cottage the garden sits above the house and there is a big deck and terrace which are perfect for sitting out and watching the sun set. Once night falls, there is outside lighting and a fireplace ready to be lit so you can be warm while watching the shooting stars and satellites travel overhead. There is plenty of parking - to the side and in front of the cottage plus overflow spaces in the garden (well out of sight of the house !). There are sun loungers, dining tables and chairs in the garden so you can relax properly and eat outside, when the weather allows. Utility Room: The utility room is a brick building which used to be the village laundry, we still have the copper which is now used as a planter. Additional fridge freezer Washing machine Tumble drier Sink Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The property is cleaned before and after your stay. All bedding (except for the cot) and bath towels are provided. For stays longer than one week the bed linen and towels will be changed on a weekly basis. Extra cleaning can be organised on request Other: TV Room/snug Upstairs is a second TV room, it has French doors overlooking the garden. Cot, high chair, stair gate available on request. Telephone is on an honesty box basis (there is no mobile reception at the cottage)

Fabulous house in a fantastic location

We know the area well, having holiday'd here for many years. We love the peace and quiet in the valley.

The house is lovely, well furnished and plenty of space. We particularly loved the light and airy kitchen.

The gardens are fantastic and we were fortunate to have a perfect week weatherwise to enjoy all levels of it chasing the sun.

We will be back as its our new favourite house

Further Details:

Thurlestone village is a five minute drive away. At Thurlestone you will find the hotel (complete with spa), pub, village shop/post office selling lovely local strawberries in the summer and the Golf Club which has hard and grass tennis courts as well as a great 18 hole course containing Peter Allis' favourite hole. Bigbury Golf Course is 15 minutes West of the cottage.

15 minutes away (by car) is the market town of Kingsbridge. The sailing centres of Salcombe and Dartmouth are 15 and 30 minutes away. Totnes, the 'alternative' capital of England is about 1/2 an hour away as is the Riverford Fram organic shop/cafe at Flete. Within an hour's drive is Dartmoor (great for country pubs and walking and Plymouth - Saltram House, Plymouth Hoe, ten pin bowling, multi screen cinemas etc. Woodlands amusement park is on the way to Dartmouth, it's a great family day out for the younger family.

All of these towns/villages have great one-off shops which sell the fantastic local produce - organic meat and veggies plus superb eggs and dairy produce, bakeries selling bread, cakes, pasties, pies and quiches that take you back in time to the days before everything was smothered in plastic.

There are plenty of pubs and restaurants serving good food but it is also very easy to eat extremely well at home - in Kingsbridge the bakery at the bottom of Fore Street sells possibly the best scotch eggs on the planet, the fish shop has some of the finest smoked salmon we have ever tasted and the beef fillet from the butchers is second to none, and that's before you have moved onto the bacon, sausages, scones and pasties...Plus a trip to the Reel Cinema in Kingsbridge is a 'must do'
