2 Rock cottage has been fully refurbished for the summer of 2015, with new carpets, flooring, dishwasher, fridge, cooker, ceramic hob, washing machine, tumble dryer, broadband, HDTV BluRay player Tassimo coffee maker and full decorated throughout, and available from 23.May as as a holiday rental cottage for the first time. A log burning stove is being installed during October, ensuring you have the perfect cosy cottage.

It is a cosy, pretty Victorian Cottage built in 1887 with stunning views overlooking the river Dart and rolling Devon countryside, with the peaks of Dartmoor national park into the distance.

Dittisham is one of the most attractive and beautiful villages within the South Hams of Devon with quaint thatched cottages lining meandering lanes, all leading down to the river.

There are two historic pubs The Red Lion just a few paces from the cottage door, and The Ferry Boat Inn down on the waterfront a short walk away, both serving excellent food and drinks. The area is steeped in local interest and there is lots to explore.

Take a scenic ferry ride to Dartmouth 3 miles down river, between the wooded valley sides, passing yachts and you may be lucky and see some of the abundant wildlife or catch a glimpse of the steam train on its way from Kingswear to Churston over the Maypool viaduct near the Summer home of Agatha Christie at Greenway.

Ring the bell at the Anchorstone Cafe at the pontoon edge to call over the water taxi from Greenway, who will carry you over to the Greenway, the world famous home of Agatha Christie, recently adopted by the National Trust as one of its flagship locations.

Dittisham is a perfect centre for Boating, crabbing, walking, and relaxing.

About Nikki Stringer

We were lucky enough to buy Rock Cottage Dittisham as our holiday home 12 years ago to enjoy with our two children as they were growing up.

Running a growing family business brought with it it's own stresses and pressures, our cottage was the perfect 'get away' to recharge the batteries and relax.

Jumping in the car from our home in Warwickshire, Friday nights and driving west down the M5 became a regular event. By late evening we would be in our lovely cottage ready for our coastal weekend.

With our children now in their twenties, now it is time for others to enjoy Rock Cottage, a very special place to relax, explore or just sit and appreciate the extraordinary views.

Why Nikki Stringer chose South Hams

Having visited the South West of England for many years, we settled upon the South Hams in Devon as the place we wanted to make our summer home.

To us, it is unique with beautiful villages, scenic rivers and rolling hills, all combining to make an interesting location with all the facilities for all ages.

Only a short walking distance to the river and with plenty of places to walk or sit and contemplate. Some swings and slides on the ham

What makes this cottage unique

Dittisham winds around some ancient tracks that lead down to the River Dart, with the cottages and houses lining the valley sides as they wind down to the river.

Although not directly on the riverside, Rock cottage as the privilege of having open views out across the river that seem to change every day.

There is also good parking a short and level stroll away which is quite unusual in the village as private car parking spaces are a quite a luxury that only the larger properties enjoy.

Rock Cottage has been comprehensively refurbished over the past few months completing by the end of 2014 and will ready and waiting for new visitors in 2015!

Notes on accommodation: We are happy to take a small dog which is subject to a £ 25 supplement. Internet WiFi provided for a small charge. Strictly Non-Smoking Outside: There is no garden however there are many open spaces and lovely walks within a few steps of the cottage. Space is at a premium in Dittisham village and the cottage, like many others in the village, does not have a specific parking space. There is plenty of parking a few paces away. Utility Room: Laundry room. Washing Machine & Tumble Drier. compact Ironing board & Iron. Vacuum Cleaner. This small room is ideal for hanging outdoor gear. Separate outside access. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen for double bed and two single beds is provided beds made up ready for your arrival. Towels (not beach towels) are included. The cottage is cleaned weekly before your visit. The towels and laundry services are provided upon changeover. Other: The Cottage is strictly Non-Smoking

Dittisham Ham - A large open, flat and level grass playing field overlooking the river with yachts at their moorings. A short walk down Riverside Road where you can sit and watch the activity on the river. Swings and climbing frame for the young at heart or fly a kite and play ball games. Easy access to the water, an ideal safe place to enjoy stand up paddle boarding or just messing about in boats.

Dittisham Pontoon - The favourite place for crabbing or just chilling out. (10 minute walk)


Nearest Rail station is Totnes on the First Great Western Line. About 30 minutes by Taxi at a cost of about £20.

Nearest airport is Exeter about 1 hour drive.


The nearest major towns are Dartmouth (4 miles, 13 minutes) and Totnes (10 miles, 25 minutes) and Kingsbridge ( 12miles, 25 minutes)

Just a few paces from the Red Lion pub and Post office /shop. Ideal for visiting the National Trust property a short ferry ride to Agatha Christies house at Greenway. Dittisham is the boating haven.
