Le Vieux Chalonge is nestled in the beautiful countryside on the Normandy/Brittany border in a very private setting. Ideal for families or friends, the accommodation includes 2 properties for exclusive use, the main farmhouse with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, open plan kitchen/dining room and cozy lounge and the snug gite with separate bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and lounge. Much of the original character of the properties has been retained, including beamed ceilings and lime rendered walls, yet it incorporates all modern conveniences such as Free WiFi, French and UK Freeview TV, comprehensive digital film library, fully equipped kitchens and a laundry room. The full-size in ground swimming pool is heated to a comfortable 28 degrees and children are well catered for with a separate kids play den and outside play area. In a beautiful private country setting, yet only a few minutes from the lively market town of St James with all amenities. Many major attractions (Mont St Michel, adventure parks, golf, historic towns) and great beaches within easy reach. A perfect location to enjoy a relaxing holiday with family and friends.

We have had a glorious week spent in this gite. So wonderfully welcoming and homely. We loved sitting by the fire every evening and enjoying the facilities. Beautiful sandy beaches on the southern Normandy peninsula and coves around Dinard and St Malo, closest around 30km. Our particular favourite is Carolles


Le Vieux Chalonge is conveniently located for many of the Normandy/Brittany ferry ports, St Malo is the closest (60km), but Cherbourg and Caen are both within 90 minutes drive. Le Havre 2 hours, Dieppe 3 hours and Calais 4-5 hours drive.

Closest airport is Dinard 65km away with convenient flights from Stansted, East Midlands and Leeds/Bradford airports in the UK. Rennes and Caen airports also easily accessible.

Further Details:

Huge range of activities including great country walks, cycling, fishing at local lakes/rivers or at the sea, local golf courses, canoeing, mini golf, tennis and horse-riding.

The coast is only a short drive away (30 minutes) with beautiful sandy beaches and a gradual slope into the sea ideal for children.

Visit the numerous local markets with great local produce, ideal for buying fresh ingredients for your family meals.

There are a number of fun parks, zoos, an alligator park and aquarium nearly for all the family to enjoy.

The historic Mont St Michel with its beautiful cobbled streets and hilltop abbey is only 30 minutes away. Local towns worth visiting include Cancale with oyster banks and seafront restaurants, the walled city of St Malo, Rennes the capital of Brittany, Fougeres with the largest medieval castle in Europe, Avranches a town steeped in history from 1066 to 1945. A little further away you can visit the Normandy landing beaches and the medieval town of Bayeux with its famous tapestry.

Lovely Family Farmhouse

The farmhouse is spacious yet cosy. It was the perfect base for exploring the surrounding area. It is well equipped and there is a lovely shed/room outside filled with children’s toys (table football, ride ons, all sorts of ball games, a train track, and more) which kept our children entertained for hours!

A peaceful charming place to spend two weeks

This is a beautiful property with excellent amenities in a quiet location

with great views, good security and lots of peace and quiet. The pool is exceptional and all pool accessories are included as well as comfortable poolside chairs and pool towels. Our "kids" are 30 and 25 but they enjoyed no only the pool, but the table tennis too.

We met Max who came to clean the pool and mow the grass.

The property is faultless, fully equipped for both adults and children. The house and gite were clean and well maintained. The kitchen had everything you need for comfortable easy living. The welcome pack was superb including much more than you usually expect to receive.

The area is very pretty with many attractions in easy reach of the property and a convenient Super U Supermarket in St James.

Just a fantastic place for a holiday, I would not hesitate to recommend it to friends and family.

Lovely Holiday Home

On arrival we were met by Max, a very friendly and informative host who had left a very enjoyable welcome pack. He always let us know in advance when he was coming round to clean the pool or sort something out.

The property was as described but the website really does not do it justice, a very quiet location with great farmland views, but also not too far from shops for early morning bakery trips.

A loveable family house which was clean, comfortable and had great facilities. The pool was a great success as was the toy shed and the movies on the tv for the young and old at heart.

Good location for sight seeing- Alligator Bay, Mont-St-Michel, Fougeres town and castle, St Malo, Carolles and D day beaches to name but a few. Also just great for relaxing by the pool and eating alfresco.

The gite was also a very good addition a self contained property with good facilities.

We were a party of 11 which included a 3 year old and 2 around 9 months, the children were particularly well catered with 2 high chairs, cots, plastic tableware and an abundance of toys and books with the 3 yr old loved.

Would not hesitate in recommending this Farmhouse to family and friends.

Wonderful holiday home. C'est Magnifique

What a wonderful holiday home. I stayed with my partner and 2.5yr old daughter. The house is fully equipped for both adults and kids! My daughter loved the toys and play equipment. The location is stunning and allowed for a truly relaxing week (even with a 2.5yr old!). The local area has everything you need within a 10 min drive. Lots of attractions and interesting towns within a 30-40 min drive. I cannot recommend Le Vieux Chalonge highly enough, we hope to be back next year!

Wonderful home!

Ourselves and another family stayed for October half term. The house was beautiful, owners extremely helpful, leaving us a welcome package of wine and cheese. The house is well appointed with everything you need and more. With 6 children (all boys!) ranging in ages from 3 to 15 they were all well catered for with the play room and children's toys outside. We couldn't have asked for more with this house, it exceeded all expectations. Close to tourist attractions but hidden away with lovely views across the countryside. We loved the quietness of the place. We all loved this place and very much hope to come back. A real home from home....a gem!

25% deposit required at the time of booking, the remainder plus a £200 security deposit is required 8 weeks before the start of the holiday.

Changeover Day:
During the mid and high season, changeover day is Saturday - arrive after 4.00pm and leave before 10.00am. In the low season the changeover day is flexible.

Notes on prices:
The rental rates shown are in £UK, however we do accept payment in € or $US.
Wood burner can be used at €6 per basket of wood and central heating at €1 per litre of oil. Otherwise prices are fully inclusive. Linen, towels and a welcome hamper included, other supplies can be provided on request.
10% Brittany Ferries discount code available.
Pool heating is set to 27-28 degrees.
Small dogs may be accepted outside high season at the owners discretion at a cost of €30 per dog.
