Self catering accommodation in heart of the Lake District

Crofton Cottage is a charming, family owned, period stone cottage in the heart of Bowness on Windermere.

An ideal base for exploring the southern lakes, the cottage is a short walk from the town centre and its restaurants and shops and the steamer pier on Lake Windermere.

This self-catering cottage sleeps up to 4 people and has 1 beautifully decorated double bedroom with built in wardrobes, television and DVD and 1 twin bedded bedroom with wardrobe and bedside cabinets. It has two lounges both with gas fires, televisions, DVD players and gaming consoles, a well equipped kitchen with washing machine, dishwasher, freezer and fridge together with a separate dining area, and bathroom with power shower and bath.

Outside is a separate storeroom with tumble dryer and space for storing walking boots. The cottage has a small courtyard at the rear, which has seating for 4, and a BBQ for al fresco dining. Parking via parking permit which is free.

We have stayed at many holiday rental houses over the years, some abroad and some in the UK, and your cottage was certainly one of the most comfortable and well equipped. My partner and son loved the cycling (including Hardknott Pass) and the weather was kind to us until the last day. We would certainly consider another visit.

Everything we wanted from a holiday home from home

Beautiful little house, equipped with everything we needed. Very clean and well kept. Parking was only issue, road was always full.

Lovely Cottage, great location, helpful host !!

We stayed at the cottage for last 4 days of Sept 2016 and liked just about everything on offer at the cottage. It is in a great location, very clean and extremely well equipped. A fantastic place for a family of four.

Many eateries/pubs, shopping around 5 mins walking distance - The Angel was a great pub with brilliant food. Windermere lake is also 5 mins walk.

We give this place a total Thumb"s Up.

Wrongly charged for existing damage to property

Lovely cottage and very well equipped. Unfortunately we were wrongly accused and charged for a kitchen blind that was already damaged on arrival. I phoned the owners to explain that it was already damaged but they did not believe me.

Their reason for blaming us was due to the apparently 'dishevelled' state we left their cottage in which appears to consist of a few items which my children, unknown to me, left out of place whilst we were packing up to leave and some cushions and throws which were left off beds which needed to stripped and remade for the arrival of new guests. Surely it would have been quicker to replace items rather than write accusing emails and take photographs!

We feel like the owners have acted unreasonably and I am still waiting for the remainder of my deposit to be returned.

Firstly I will address the point raised regarding your telephone call. No call was in fact received from this guest until they were contacted following departure. I would also comment it was not just a case of a few throws/bedlinen left on the floor which was an issue. In order to maintain the high standards at the cottage prior to guests arrival the cottage is checked to ensure all is in order as was the case prior to this visit. Unfortunately when damage does occur, which thankfully is rare, we notify guests and then replace like for like in order that cottage maintains its high quality. You are aware that no deduction is made from customers security deposit without firstly being advised which was the procedure followed after your visit when damage had occurred during your stay.

Well equipt cottage in excellent location

We had a lovely comfortable stay at the cottage. We found the cottage very clean and. well presented with everything we required. The location was also good being close to both shops and the lake with plenty of walks. We would definitely recommend this cottage to family and friends.

Nice spacious cottage in Bowness-on-Windermere

Crofton Cottage is a beautifully maintained 2 bedroom cottage in the centre of Bowness-on-Windermere. It has everything that a small family can need for a vacation. Bedrooms are spacious, there are two living areas and also a perfectly equipped kitchen and a separate dining space. The small courtyard will be nice on sunny days.

The property is walking distance from pretty all the attractions in town or even nearby Windermere (about 30 minutes walk). Having a car is good for travelling around, but there are also buses on the main street to nearby towns such as Grasmere and Kendal.

We liked our stay very much, and the only problem is that our holiday was too short!

Crofton Cottage is located in the centre of Bowness-on-Windermere, and is only a 5 min walk to Windermere. All the shops and restaurants are on the cottage doorstep, there is also a cinema at the bottom of the street for those rainy days. Lake Windermere offers cruises, sailing, water sports and you can hire boats. Other activities are the Beatrix Potter Museum, horse riding, superb walks and much more.
