About the property

Barn in Ivinghoe, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England - Bull Pen

Bull Pen is a lovely, holiday barn on Ford End Farm, a working farm at the foot of the Chiltern Hills. Ivinghoe is close to the Ridgeway path, the Grand Union Canal and about ten minutes to Tring Station, which has rail links to London in 50 minutes. There is a watermill and fishing lake on site, under different ownership.

Bull pen is a two storey property, with three bedrooms two shower rooms and a family bathroom. The kitchen is fully equipped with cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. This is open plan to the dining area, with a large dining table which comfortably seats six.

The lounge has two large sofas, and a televison with Freeview. There is also a downstairs shower room and toilet. Upstairs the master bedroom has a king-size bed (which can be converted to a pair of twins), and en-suite shower room. There are two further twin bedrooms (which can both be converted to king-size) and a family bathroom with bath with a shower.

The Bull Pen has an enclosed garden with a washing line, there is also a table with two benches. Ample parking is available for tenants use. £15 worth of electricity is included in the rental for this property. Electricity cards are available to purchase if more electricity is required. Heating by electric radiators.

There is a fishing lake on site, and arrangements can be made to use this. there is also a Watermill on site, Ford End Watermill. This little mill, recorded in 1616 but certainly very much older, was in use until 1963.

Restored by volunteers, and now maintained and run by Ford End Watermill Society, it is the only remaining working watermill in Buckinghamshire with original machinery. It retains all the atmosphere of a small farm mill of the late 1800`s.

An unusual feature is the sheepwash in the tailrace below the mill. Washing made the fleece easier to shear and increased its value.

Stoneground wholemeal flour is on sale during milling demonstrations.

This property may request damage deposit.

`We had a great time at the Bull Pen - thank you. We found the facilities excellent and there was everything we needed apart from a hairdryer, but we managed!

All was very easy from booking to picking up the keys etc. The cottage was in a good central position for us and I can see us going again when we visit the UK on our home visits. Thank you for all your help` - Louise A.

What a lovely Barn.

  • 4 of 5

We arrived just before Christmas to have our first complete Family Christmas in 10 years. The house was lovely, so spacious and very clean. Three very large bedrooms. There were 10 of us on Christmas day for dinner and Bull Pen was ideal. There a few small snags which we noted for the owners, nothing serious. Everybody who visited the house loved it. Would we book it again, of course. I think some friends might book later this year. Met the owners a couple of times, very pleasant. Thank you for making our Christmas so special

Lovely cottage on a farm

  • 5 of 5

We came from New Jersey to visit family and this let had the right combination of location and style. Spacious enough for our family (including a 6 month old) with plenty of on site amenities. We will definitely be staying here again on our next visit!

Comfortable & Clean

  • 3 of 5

This is a spacious and comfortable barn, needs more attention to detail. There just wasn't enough storage/shelves in the bathroom or shower rooms - nowhere to put toiletries whilst in the shower. No first aid kit, no oven gloves (!) and no manuals for the appliances. Also the garden could be much better - there is no privacy and there are no plants or flowers. I should have paid more attention to the photographs. The house was only ok - I wouldn't go again or recommend to friends.

Oxford was fabulous - and the park and ride made it easy. Lovely Italian restaurant in Tring, Francesco's, right by the car park. Tring itself quietly charming. Had a good hack at Hastoe Hill stables.

No contact with the owners other than when we called at their house for an "emergency" plaster.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your stay in the Bull Pen. We were sorry to hear about the issues you had with the property, and have taken on board the fact there weren't enough shelves etc in the bathrooms. We apologise too for the missing items in the property, we would have been happy to replace these during your stay, but have also taken on board that our checks should have picked this up. We are putting further checks in to place now. The garden, as you mention, is an enclosed grass area, with picket fence, as on the photograph. The property has the advantage of being next door to a beautiful old Watermill, dating back to the 1600s, and this is the feature rather than extra flower beds etc. We are glad you enjoyed your stay in the end and hope to welcome you back to the area soon.

Lovely cottage, fab location

  • 5 of 5

This is a well equipped cottage alongside others in a farm courtyard . Very clean and well maintained met the owner on arrival who was really helpful. Great location for trips to London, Harry potter, Woburn, Bletchley and St albans. A walkers paradise along the canal good shops within a reasonable distance and local restaurants and pub. Would use again as we needed Monday to Monday and we were accommodated
