About the property

La Cure

La Cure is the perfect place for large families or groups of friends. The 5 bedroom manor house Les Roses and 2 bedroom cottage La Lavande accomodate up to 15 people. Enjoy eating and drinking outside on wooden tables nestled amongst fruit trees and roses, swim in the heated pool, play petanque (boules) on our court, step outside the gates into the charming village with troglodyte houses and beautiful church and a fabulous little bar/restaurant or drive to nearby chateaux and vineyards. Both Les Roses and La Lavande have antique dining tables and lovely spaces inside to dine together or relax with a book. It is only 15 mins to the glorious medieval town of Loches which hosts food and wine markets twice a week. The owners have children and the property is designed to keep the kids entertained while the adults can relax around the pool or under the trees. The property is fully fenced and there are pool toys, many bikes, children's toys and books, a tree house and the 12th century grange (one of the village's oldest buildings) has a pool table, dart board and table football. There is free internet access throughout both houses. Les Roses and La Lavande can be rented separately and have private outdoor areas, but are perfect rented together for a large group.

About Kris Webb

We are an Australian family of myself (Kris), Stephen and three girls Zoe, Asha and Leah. We lived at the property for a year in 2004 when our eldest girls were 4 and 2. Since then we have travelled across the world every year to spend a few weeks in our little piece of France.

We have travelled a lot and so have tried to make the property something special, with lots of little touches you won't normally find in rental houses. The girls have grown up spending time at the property so it has things which are good for kids of all ages. If we can't be there we love to know other families are enjoying it.

Kris Webb purchased this villa in 2004

Why Kris Webb chose Ferrière-Larçon

In France it's very unusual to find a property with good sized grounds in the middle of a village. But our property is exactly that - two houses, charming outbuildings and a hectare of fruit trees and gardens in the middle of the lovely small village of Ferriere Larcon. So it offers the best of both worlds.

What makes this villa unique

The property is close enough to all the big chateaux and towns on the Loire - but far enough away to avoid the summer crowds. It's still rare to hear English spoken at the markets in the beautiful medieval town of Loches which is 15 minutes away.

Our favourite thing is still buying great food and wine at the markets and sitting under the fruit trees in the garden to enjoy them.

We know that visitors want to see the best the area has to offer and so have detailed notes in the house which tell guests our favourite places to visit, restaurants to eat at and even our favourite local food and wine.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful relaxing family holiday at Les Roses and La Lavande, which we occupied in August. Both properties catered brilliantly for the three generations (9 months to 65 years) that made up our group. Apart from the fact that we all had privacy, as each part of the family had a separate wing or house; the heated pool and expanse of gardens really made it an idyllic escape from our day to day lives. Most of our evenings were spent cooking and eating together in one group as the kitchen and dining area of Les Roses were more than ample to cope with our needs. When staying here with children, don't forget to hunt for the tree-house! La Cure is perfectly positioned to explore part of the Loire Valley and wherever we went, we knew a comfortable home and luxurious beds awaited us at the end of each day.

I just want to say thank you for letting us stay at La Lavande. The photographs on your website don't do it justice, it is truly a beautiful, special place. The house was much bigger than I thought too.We had the best holiday, combining a little sight seeing with total relaxation! The notes you left on things to see and do were really helpful. My husband really enjoyed the bike rides, so thanks for your routes (I even managed one to Lesigny!) and the children couldn't believe how much there was to do. We ate cheese till the sun went down and enjoyed a real feast at your favourite restaurant in Manthelan, thanks for the recommendation!

Our family holiday at Les Roses in Ferriere Larcon exceeded our already high expectations in every way. Three weeks of bliss in a beautiful house and garden which is not only historically interesting and very comfortable but also caters thoughtfully for the needs of all. In our case the age range was 22 months to 60+! Every detail has been considered and provided for. A cot, high chair, age appropriate toys for all including our grandsons favourite DVD of the Teletubbies, bikes for all ages and a child seat for the bike. The village itself is extremely pretty consisting of rose covered stone houses. The surrounding countryside is also very appealing with quiet roads and hectares of crops as far as you can see. We loved visiting nearby villages and buying provisions at the markets, as well as exploring places of historical interest. Our experience of Les Roses has changed our thinking about holidays in future although its unlikely we will have a comparable experience. We could not recommend it more highly.

The owners have stayed in many rental houses around the world and have tried to make Les Roses something out of the ordinary. They have furnished the property with antique items found at local markets and want guests to feel like they are staying in a well loved house, not a basic rental property. They have left guests notes on their favourite places to visit, best local restaurants and places to buy lovely food wine - all designed to help guests maximise their enjoyment in the time they have at Les Roses. There is also information on local walks and bike rides and a map with the owners' favourite routes. They've made arrangement with local restaurants to cook "takeaway" meals so guests can eat at home without the trouble of cooking. Baby sitters and french lessons can also be easily arranged.

Fabulous house

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time - the set up was perfect for our 3 family holiday with kids ranging from 9 - 18. It was a treat to find a village house with such a big garden - so the smaller kids had tons of room to run around swallows and amazon style, and the older ones could go for bike rides or walk to the local bar for a drink. The accommodation was very stylish and comfortable and felt like a home (a particularly nice one) as opposed to a sterile holiday let. The games barn provided hours of fun. The pool was a perfect temperature. We explored local markets, had fun at a local river beach and bought too many treasures at the local broccante market which miraculously remained in tact on various flights home. Amanda was very helpful and organized taxis and restaurant bookings (the local restaurant does a remarkably good value set meal). A perfect holiday and we all agreed we'd love to return.

The property is a very well maintained home with a large well maintained garden and private pool .

  • 5 of 5

On arriving at the property we were met by the housekeeper who is extremely helpful . Prior to the visit helped to arrange a booking at the local restaurant and arranged a birthday cake from the local patisserie.

The house comfortably accommodated our party of 14 allowing private space . It is extremely well equipped and had everything we needed for 4 small children . The house although has steep stair cases there is ample safety gates to keep young children safe .

There was also a boules court , plenty of bikes and a pool and dart board which kept the younger adults entertained.

The local restaurant is extremely accommodating and the food was delicious.

The property is close to some larger towns were you can enjoy the great French markets with all the fresh produce .

As a family we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely use this property again .

A lovely house in a lovely setting

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful two weeks in the house. From Amanda’s welcome, it served both as a base for exploration of the surrounding areas and a place for relaxation and enjoyment in itself. The location is perfect, with plenty of walks locally and it’s only a 15 minute run to a wonderful boulangerie/patisserie (so important for a real holiday!). The local restaurant fitted in nicely with meals also allowing for the children.

The house itself is lovely. The rooms are nicely furnished and the beds, so important on holiday, were wonderful to sink into after a hard day’s holidaying.

The stairgates, dishwashers and washing machines were welcome in coping with the numbers of children and adults who made up our party. The pool, when the weather permitted, was something the adults, but even more, the children, enjoyed to the full.

Superb accommodation for large groups

  • 5 of 5

Fifteen members of an extended family spent a week at both properties from late July to early August 2017. This place is a gem. All the photos and descriptions on the website are very accurate. The houses are very spacious and are well stocked. Plenty of room to escape for some quiet time. The accommodation is located in the centre of an attractive and peaceful village and the surrounding farming countryside is delightful. There are attractive villages with markets not far away and there are some very good restaurants to choose from in the area including the local bar/cafe. Highly recommend La Promenade at Le Petit Pressigny for an excellent dining experience. The local manager has a wealth of knowledge and suggestions. We spent most of the time enjoying the comforts of the property including the pool with its many sun lounges, boules court and games room. We enjoyed sitting out at the very large dining table in the garden til late in the evening. I highly recommend this place for groups of friends or large families. You will not be disappointed

Delightful in every way

  • 5 of 5

It was a delight ! We so much appreciated Amanda’s kind welcome and showing us around . The gite itself was absolutely superbly appointed – I need not have brought all the house keeping items that I did! Amanda was amused! Mum very much appreciated all your decorative touches- as did I, and the rooms were so lovely and comfortable - with delicious views! Quite like being in a novel! We enjoyed petanque , swam in the pool , made expeditions to many places of interest round about, enjoyed the village and the historic church, ate in the restaurant a couple of times- thank you for that recommendation. Marc is a charming patron. The garden was a delightful space to sit out in and we all enjoyed quiet reading and writing there as well as strolls through the village- I am quite missing the bells. A week just was not long enough- it flew by! We only had one bike ride!! We would love to come again ! I can honestly say also that in our many years of gite stays , your has been the loveliest ! Thank you- you have a lovely property in a lovely area! We all send our sincere thanks.

Nearest Airport
68 Kilometres
Nearest Train
65 Kilometres
St Pierre des Corps
Car: necessary

Guests can fly into nearby Tours or Poitiers (which have bargain flights from London on Ryan Air). The properties can be reached by car from the UK in one day, with many of the ferryports within 4 hours' drive.

We are only a 2 hour drive from the south of Paris (Orly airport) or an extra 45 minutes from Charles de Gaulle (Roissy) airport in the north. Alternatively, you can travel by train from Paris (either CDG airport or the city) to Tours in less than one hour.

Further Details:

Les Roses and La Lavande are in the middle of a charming village which has a street of troglodyte houses and a beautiful 12th century church. The village's bar/restaurant stocks basic supplies and local delicacies.

There is a food market each Monday in a village 5 minutes away and twice a week in the beautiful medieval town of Loches (15 minute drive).

There is a wonderful restaurant (regarded as one of the best in the Loire and about half the price of it's equivalent in Paris) 10 minutes away. There are also lots of great local bar/restaurants.

There are many lovely picnic spots nearby.

Many of the most beautiful chateaux of the Loire Valley such as Chenonceau, Villandry and Azay le Rideau are no more than 40 minutes from La Cure. Less well known, but just as impressive, is Loches, a picturesque medieval town complete with chateau. Only a 15 minute drive from the property, it hosts a colourful and lively food and flower market twice a week.

The wine areas of Chinon, Samur, Vouvray and Borgueil are all within an easy hour's drive of La Lavande.

The lovely city of Tours (described by Lonely Planet as a "mini Paris") is 45 minutes north of La Lavande. About the same distance away is the atmospheric town of Chinon.

The owners have spent many hours exploring their part of the Loire and have plenty of ‘inside knowledge’ they’d like to share with their guests. They've prepared notes to help you enjoy experiences which could easily be missed in a short stay.
