This spacious property includes the professionally interior decorated 4 bedroom house Les Roses and 2 bedroom cottage La Lavande. Enjoy relaxing in the gardens full of fruit trees and roses, swim in the heated pool, play petanque (boules) on our court, step outside the gates into the charming village with troglodyte houses and beautiful church or drive to nearby chateaux and vineyards. It is only 15 mins to the glorious medieval town of Loches which hosts food and wine markets twice a week. The owners have children and the property is designed to keep the kids entertained while the adults can relax around the pool or under the trees. The property is fully fenced and there are pool toys, many bikes, children's toys and books, a tree house and the 12th century grange (one of the village's oldest buildings) has a pool table, dart board and table football. There is free internet access throughout both houses. Les Roses and La Lavande are designed to be rented separately and have private outdoor areas, but are perfect rented together for a large group.
We are an Australian family of myself (Kris), Stephen and three girls Zoe, Asha and Leah. We lived at the property for a year in 2004 when our eldest girls were 4 and 2. Since then we have travelled across the world every year to spend a few weeks in our little piece of France.
We have travelled a lot and so have tried to make the property something special, with lots of little touches you won't normally find in rental houses. The girls have grown up spending time at the property so it has things which are good for kids of all ages. If we can't be there we love to know other families are enjoying it.
Kris Webb purchased this villa in 2004
In France it's very unusual to find a property with good sized grounds in the middle of a village. But our property is exactly that - two houses, charming outbuildings and a hectare of fruit trees and gardens in the middle of the lovely small village of Ferriere Larcon. So it offers the best of both worlds.
The property is close enough to all the big chateaux and towns on the Loire - but far enough away to avoid the summer crowds. It's still rare to hear English spoken at the markets in the beautiful medieval town of Loches which is 15 minutes away.
Our favourite thing is still buying great food and wine at the markets and sitting under the fruit trees in the garden to enjoy them.
We know that visitors want to see the best the area has to offer and so have detailed notes in the house which tell guests our favourite places to visit, restaurants to eat at and even our favourite local food and wine.
We had a wonderful relaxing family holiday at Les Roses and La Lavande, which we occupied in August. Both properties catered brilliantly for the three generations (9 months to 65 years) that made up our group. Apart from the fact that we all had privacy, as each part of the family had a separate wing or house; the heated pool and expanse of gardens really made it an idyllic escape from our day to day lives. Most of our evenings were spent cooking and eating together in one group as the kitchen and dining area of Les Roses were more than ample to cope with our needs. When staying here with children, don't forget to hunt for the tree-house! La Cure is perfectly positioned to explore part of the Loire Valley and wherever we went, we knew a comfortable home and luxurious beds awaited us at the end of each day.
I just want to say thank you for letting us stay at La Lavande. The photographs on your website don't do it justice, it is truly a beautiful, special place. The house was much bigger than I thought too.We had the best holiday, combining a little sight seeing with total relaxation! The notes you left on things to see and do were really helpful. My husband really enjoyed the bike rides, so thanks for your routes (I even managed one to Lesigny!) and the children couldn't believe how much there was to do. We ate cheese till the sun went down and enjoyed a real feast at your favourite restaurant in Manthelan, thanks for the recommendation!
Our family holiday at Les Roses in Ferriere Larcon exceeded our already high expectations in every way. Three weeks of bliss in a beautiful house and garden which is not only historically interesting and very comfortable but also caters thoughtfully for the needs of all. In our case the age range was 22 months to 60+! Every detail has been considered and provided for. A cot, high chair, age appropriate toys for all including our grandsons favourite DVD of the Teletubbies, bikes for all ages and a child seat for the bike. The village itself is extremely pretty consisting of rose covered stone houses. The surrounding countryside is also very appealing with quiet roads and hectares of crops as far as you can see. We loved visiting nearby villages and buying provisions at the markets, as well as exploring places of historical interest. Our experience of Les Roses has changed our thinking about holidays in future although its unlikely we will have a comparable experience. We could not recommend it more highly.
Les Roses was an absolutely wonderful place to stay. We were two adults and two kids and the property was perfectly equipped for our needs. We peeped into the smaller cottage, Lavande, and that was lovely too! Both properties have been tastefully decorated with characterful things, clearly the owners have put much of themselves into the property and want others to enjoy the house and area as much as they have when they lived their. We had a brilliant week, despite overcast weather, and Kris's tips and suggestions via email and in the welcome book, were gratefully taken up. A week of picnics, local markets (getting delish produce for picnics! ) bike rides (bikes provided - fab) and so much fun in the beautiful, rambling garden and perfect-temperature, safe-for-kids pool. The week was made extra special by the warm and genuine welcome from Amanda and the really helpful interaction with Kris the owner - clearly they are a good team. This is no mercenary business rental - it's clearly a magic place and the owners want to pass on some of the joy of experiencing a little slice of beautiful France!
We had a fabulous and incredibly relaxing week at Les Roses this summer. The house is centuries old and decorated with interesting antiques and paintings, but has all the modern comforts you could want. We spent hours in the garden under the big old trees reading books, playing games and drinking local wine. The house is in a beautiful part of the Loire, with lovely villages, markets and towns in all directions. We found it hard to drag ourselves away from the house, pool and garden though! We'll be back, but for 2 weeks next time
My stay was memorable and special - it far exceeded my expectations. First, the properties are beautiful and charming. They have been decked out with love and care and style. The gardens are huge, which I did not expect, and I had no sense of where the land finished and the next property began. The pool was a treat as well as adventures around the property finding a well, a cave and firewood. The local village is charming but my favorite thing was sitting in the garden, under the trees and relaxing in the old world charm of this wonderful place.
La Cure is a magical place. Two beautiful houses on huge gardens right in the middle of a lovely village. The houses are centuries old and have lots of charm but are also extremely comfortable and equipped with everything you can possibly want. We loved the comfortable beds and ironed sheets! We spent hours around the pool and sitting under the trees in the garden. There are lots of chateaux and places to visit nearby and a great food market 10 minutes away in Loches - the owners have left excellent notes on what to see and do. For our evening meals we alternated between a BBQ in the gardens after a swim in the pool, or a trip to one of many good restaurants in the nearby villages. Couldn't recommend it more highly! It's perfect for big groups of friends or families.
We have stayed at La Cure several times over the last few years and absolutely love going back. Located in a pretty village, the house is very homely with everything we could need. We have two young children and find it perfect for family holidays with plenty of toys, bikes, an extensive garden and swimming pool. The owners also provide fantastic recommendations for things to do in the region. This area of the Loire is particularly beautiful with many impressive chateau and pretty towns nearby, there is so much to see. It is equally lovely to spend the day relaxing and enjoying the house and garden. Each of our holidays there has been wonderful and we will definitely be going back!
What a beautiful house in a seriously gorgeous part of the world! Blossoming with exquisite decor and French charm, Les Roses provided everything we could need or expect. A few key points that far outdid the 7 other accommodation choices we used whilst in Europe were 1. great wifi connection 2. awesome water pressure 3. all appliances were in great working order 4. beds were extremely comfy. 5. great reading material and plenty of well written instructions and directions for the area. The house caretaker was the sweetest and most helpful person I think I have ever met and was always available to give us the direction and advice we required to make our stay easy and fun. Ferriere-Larcon is perfectly situated too, providing a number of interesting day trip options to explore. We really loved the church nearby with the clear, magical healing well and especially enjoyed Les Roses swimming pool and the markets in Loche. As an artist, I personally, felt inspired by the beauty and serenity and created some satisfying artworks! I will happily recommend Les Roses to travelling friends and family and am looking forward to visiting again in the future. ~ Arna and Daisy
Guests can fly into nearby Tours or Poitiers (which have bargain flights from London on Ryan Air). The properties can be reached by car from the UK in one day, with many of the ferryports within 4 hours' drive.
We are only a 2 hour drive from the south of Paris (Orly airport) or an extra 45 minutes from Charles de Gaulle (Roissy) airport in the north. Alternatively, you can travel by train from Paris (either CDG airport or the city) to Tours in less than one hour.
Les Roses and La Lavande are in the middle of a charming village which has a street of troglodyte houses and a beautiful 12th century church. The village's bar/restaurant stocks basic supplies and local delicacies.
There is a food market each Monday in a village 5 minutes away and twice a week in the beautiful medieval town of Loches (15 minute drive).
There is a wonderful restaurant (regarded as one of the best in the Loire and about half the price of it's equivalent in Paris) 10 minutes away. There are also lots of great local bar/restaurants.
There are many lovely picnic spots nearby.
Many of the most beautiful chateaux of the Loire Valley such as Chenonceau, Villandry and Azay le Rideau are no more than 40 minutes from La Cure. Less well known, but just as impressive, is Loches, a picturesque medieval town complete with chateau. Only a 15 minute drive from the property, it hosts a colourful and lively food and flower market twice a week.
The wine areas of Chinon, Samur, Vouvray and Borgueil are all within an easy hour's drive of La Lavande.
The lovely city of Tours (described by Lonely Planet as a "mini Paris") is 45 minutes north of La Lavande. About the same distance away is the atmospheric town of Chinon.
The owners have spent many hours exploring their part of the Loire and have plenty of ‘inside knowledge’ they’d like to share with their guests. They've prepared notes to help you enjoy experiences which could easily be missed in a short stay.
