About Kris Webb
We are an Australian family of myself (Kris), Stephen and three girls Zoe, Asha and Leah. We lived at the property for a year in 2004 when our eldest girls were 4 and 2. Since then we have travelled across the world every year to spend a few weeks in our little piece of France. We have travelled a lot and so have tried to make the property something special, with lots of little touches you won't normally find in rental houses. The girls have grown up spending time at the property so it has things which are good for kids of all ages. If we can't be there we love to know other families are enjoying it.
Kris Webb purchased this Villa in 2004
Why Kris Webb chose Ferrière-Larçon
In France it's very unusual to find a property with good sized grounds in the middle of a village. But our property is exactly that - two houses, charming outbuildings and a hectare of fruit trees and gardens in the middle of the lovely small village of Ferriere Larcon. So it offers the best of both worlds.
What makes this Villa unique
The property is close enough to all the big chateaux and towns on the Loire - but far enough away to avoid the summer crowds. It's still rare to hear English spoken at the markets in the beautiful medieval town of Loches which is 15 minutes away. Our favourite thing is still buying great food and wine at the markets and sitting under the fruit trees in the garden to enjoy them. We know that visitors want to see the best the area has to offer and so have detailed notes in the house which tell guests our favourite places to visit, restaurants to eat at and even our favourite local food and wine.

Wonderful escape to the country
The property was a typical French farmhouse with bags of character set in a quiet village in the middle of the countryside. Large garden and lots of facilities to keep all of our party, aged 3 to 65, occupied. Great local bar / restaurant within walking distance and easy access to all the Loire valley attractions by car. We all had a great stay and will recommend to others.
We had a fantastic holiday. The property was simply beautiful and the communication with the owner was superb. It was the ideal place to spend quality family time
We had a wonderful time - the set up was perfect for our 3 family holiday with kids ranging from 9 - 18. It was a treat to find a village house with such a big garden - so the smaller kids had tons of room to run around swallows and amazon style, and the older ones could go for bike rides or walk to the local bar for a drink. The accommodation was very stylish and comfortable and felt like a home (a particularly nice one) as opposed to a sterile holiday let. The games barn provided hours of fun. The pool was a perfect temperature. We explored local markets, had fun at a local river beach and bought too many treasures at the local broccante market which miraculously remained in tact on various flights home. Amanda was very helpful and organized taxis and restaurant bookings (the local restaurant does a remarkably good value set meal). A perfect holiday and we all agreed we'd love to return.
The property is a very well maintained home with a large well maintained garden and private pool .
On arriving at the property we were met by the housekeeper who is extremely helpful . Prior to the visit helped to arrange a booking at the local restaurant and arranged a birthday cake from the local patisserie.
The house comfortably accommodated our party of 14 allowing private space . It is extremely well equipped and had everything we needed for 4 small children . The house although has steep stair cases there is ample safety gates to keep young children safe .
There was also a boules court , plenty of bikes and a pool and dart board which kept the younger adults entertained.
The local restaurant is extremely accommodating and the food was delicious.
The property is close to some larger towns were you can enjoy the great French markets with all the fresh produce .
As a family we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely use this property again .
A lovely house in a lovely setting
We had a wonderful two weeks in the house. From Amanda’s welcome, it served both as a base for exploration of the surrounding areas and a place for relaxation and enjoyment in itself. The location is perfect, with plenty of walks locally and it’s only a 15 minute run to a wonderful boulangerie/patisserie (so important for a real holiday!). The local restaurant fitted in nicely with meals also allowing for the children.
The house itself is lovely. The rooms are nicely furnished and the beds, so important on holiday, were wonderful to sink into after a hard day’s holidaying.
The stairgates, dishwashers and washing machines were welcome in coping with the numbers of children and adults who made up our party. The pool, when the weather permitted, was something the adults, but even more, the children, enjoyed to the full.
We stayed as a family in Les Roses for two weeks and found the property fantastic in all areas, cleanliness exceptional, equipped extremely well for cooking with everything needed to produce all bought At the wonderful local markets, bedding etc perfect, pool was just perfect and to add to this the local areas we great to visit, local village restaurant was great also, hope to go back very soon, thanks Kris and team
Guests can fly into nearby Tours or Poitiers (which have bargain flights from London on Ryan Air). The properties can be reached by car from the UK in one day, with many of the ferryports within 4 hours' drive.
We are only a 2 hour drive from the south of Paris (Orly airport) or an extra 45 minutes from Charles de Gaulle (Roissy) airport in the north. Alternatively, you can travel by train from Paris (either CDG airport or the city) to Tours in less than one hour.
Les Roses and La Lavande are in the middle of a charming village which has a street of troglodyte houses and a beautiful 12th century church. The village's bar/restaurant stocks basic supplies and local delicacies.
There is a food market each Monday in a village 5 minutes away and twice a week in the beautiful medieval town of Loches (15 minute drive).
There is a wonderful restaurant (regarded as one of the best in the Loire and about half the price of it's equivalent in Paris) 10 minutes away. There are also lots of great local bar/restaurants.
There are many lovely picnic spots nearby.
Many of the most beautiful chateaux of the Loire Valley such as Chenonceau, Villandry and Azay le Rideau are no more than 40 minutes from La Cure. Less well known, but just as impressive, is Loches, a picturesque medieval town complete with chateau. Only a 15 minute drive from the property, it hosts a colourful and lively food and flower market twice a week.
The wine areas of Chinon, Samur, Vouvray and Borgueil are all within an easy hour's drive of La Lavande.
The lovely city of Tours (described by Lonely Planet as a "mini Paris") is 45 minutes north of La Lavande. About the same distance away is the atmospheric town of Chinon.
The owners have spent many hours exploring their part of the Loire and have plenty of ‘inside knowledge’ they’d like to share with their guests. They've prepared notes to help you enjoy experiences which could easily be missed in a short stay.
