About the property

Cottage in Wheatley, Nr. Oxford, Oxfordshire, England - Village Location Within Walking Distance Of Shops, Post Office, Bank And Excellent Coffee Shop

Set in the courtyard of our own home, but completely separate and private, Gadbury Cottage is cosy and very comfortable whether your choice is for a winter or summer break. It offers an ideal location to discover Oxford and the nearby attractions of Oxford City, Blenheim Palace, Shotover Park, Waterperry Gardens, Otmoor nature reserve, the Chilterns and Cotswolds Hills. Wheatley has all the facilities to meet your immediate needs - 2 foodstores, baker, coffee shop, post office, bank and choice of restaurants and pubs. The village has a long history through it's location on the main coaching route from London to Oxford - it was once descibed as the most agreeable stopping place between Beaconsfield and Woodstock. Today it's transport links are still excellent being just 2 miles from the Thornhills Park and Ride and a similar distance from the M40. There are regular bus services to Oxford and to Haddenham/Thame train station. Central London is c53 miles and Heathrow c45 miles, both have good public transport links.

Perfect cottage in a great location

Lovely cosy cottage in a great location for visiting Oxford and the local area. Very comfortable and I felt very safe staying on my own, walking around Wheatley. Lovely hosts who leave you be but are there when you have questions!

English Cottage Charm

  • 5 of 5

Lovely quiet peaceful . Yet another place in the English Countryside with

charm and history behind it.

Our stay went well and we traveled in and out of Wheatley for day trips.

Always nice to return to the peace and quiet of the cottage at days end.

Hope others enjoy their stay also.

A fabulous find!

  • 5 of 5

I loved this cottage! My friend and I spent three very pleasant and comfortable nights here. What you see in the pictures is exactly what you get and the cottage is very well equipped with everything one could possibly need. The bathroom was splendid with plenty of very hot water and towels. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. It was great to have parking on the premises as we had a rental vehicle. Wheatley is a pretty little village and as we had to visit the chemist and doctors office, we found the locals to be very friendly and extremely helpful. There is a small but well stocked Co-Op grocery store within walking distance as well as a couple of pubs and a very nice Indian restaurant called Cinnamon where we had a delicious meal. The bus service to and from Oxford could not be more reasonable or convenient. Be sure to ask the driver for return fares. Morning coffee in the beautiful and peaceful garden behind the cottage in the company of very friendly Megan the black lab was just delightful.

Jenny and Martin were very friendly, welcoming and helpful - the perfect hosts. As I said, I absolutely loved this place and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet location that is close enough to the city of Oxford and surrounding areas.

Delightful place to relax and enjoy

  • 5 of 5

We spent wonderful holidays in this marvellous location which is much more idyllic as on the photos. The property is spacious enough for 3 guests during a fortnight - and it is really beautiful: especially the dreamlike garden where we could unwind and relish the picturesque flowers in front of the limestone walls.

The cottage is very well equipped with everything you may need during your stay, and the property owners are very friendly --> thanks for providing us with useful tips for our excursions !

It is also a good starting point for numerous day trips to different destinations in the gorgeous Cotswolds - but relaxing in the garden behind the cottage may completely replace the sightseeing of the well-known parks in the region :-).

We highly recommend to enjoy your vacations staying at this property. And we hope to return to this cottage at a later date.

Last but not least: Our very best greetings go to Megan, the amiable Labrador who is never tired of being petted !
