About the property

Cottage in Wheatley, Nr. Oxford, Oxfordshire, England - Village Location Within Walking Distance Of Shops, Post Office, Bank And Excellent Coffee Shop

Set in the courtyard of our own home, but completely separate and private, Gadbury Cottage is cosy and very comfortable whether your choice is for a winter or summer break. It offers an ideal location to discover Oxford and the nearby attractions of Oxford City, Blenheim Palace, Shotover Park, Waterperry Gardens, Otmoor nature reserve, the Chilterns and Cotswolds Hills. Wheatley has all the facilities to meet your immediate needs - 2 foodstores, baker, coffee shop, post office, bank and choice of restaurants and pubs. The village has a long history through it's location on the main coaching route from London to Oxford - it was once descibed as the most agreeable stopping place between Beaconsfield and Woodstock. Today it's transport links are still excellent being just 2 miles from the Thornhills Park and Ride and a similar distance from the M40. There are regular bus services to Oxford and to Haddenham/Thame train station. Central London is c53 miles and Heathrow c45 miles, both have good public transport links.

Gadbury Cottage is perfect in every way!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful little cottage in Wheatley, just outside of Oxford. It was perfect for the two of us and our 11 year old. Spacious master bedroom in the loft. Cute little bedroom with a twin bed downstairs. Nice family room with a couch and TV. The small kitchen and bathroom were just fine for us. We ate breakfast at the cottage everyday and often made dinner there, too.

The town of Wheatley is also adorable. Lovely little shops, restaurants and pubs only a few minutes away. The bus stop is also only a few minutes away. There were busses every 20 minutes or so that went to Oxford. (Hint: download the Arriva Bus App on your phone. It tells you exactly when the bus will arrive and it updates constantly.)

We took the bus to Oxford four times: twice to explore the town and twice to catch the train the London. Very convenient and easy. Nice to not have to worry about the parking insanity. We also drove to Stonehenge, Salisbury and the Universal Studios Making of Harry Potter. The cottage is very well-located for travel to all these places.

All in all, we had a lovely week at Gadbury Cottage!

(PS. The owners are fantastic! Lovely people with great suggestions for you!)

A very comfortable stay in a quiet village close to the bustle of Oxford

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was excellent and we travelled in and out of Wheatley for day trips as near as Oxford

and as far as Hughenden Manor.

It was always nice to return to the peace and quiet of the cottage after each day out. There is a very good fish and chip shop nearby.

Hawera, New Zealand

Just perfect.

  • 5 of 5

Arriving from New Zealand my son and I stayed 9 nights in Gadbury Cottage in January as he was starting a job in the Oxford area. It proved to be the perfect base as he worked through his residency and employment documentation, found a flat to rent, purchased a car, etc.

The cottage is very well equipped, very comfortable and clean, and most importantly in January it was lovely and warm with plenty of hot water for showers. The wifi is fast and reliable which was very important for our searching and communication. Local shops, restaurants and pubs are just a short walk away, with a major supermarket only 5 minutes drive.

Jenny and Martin were very welcoming and assisted us with a lot of local knowledge, answering many questions relating to my son getting established in the UK, which was very much appreciated.
