About Ruth and Stuart
Married since 2001 we were lucky enough to become custodians of this wonderful cottage in October 2016. Having been visiting the area for a long time, with family owning properties in the nearby village of Redmire, buying The Roost just felt right. Stuart is an ex-soldier, now working in software, and Ruth runs her own virtual business, so with both working in the world of technology it became increasingly important to escape the hectic pace of working life and just sit back from time to time, to re-charge and re-discover what it's all about. There are few places better to do that than the Yorkshire Dales and the opportunity of having our own little part of that was a dream come true. We have tried to make The Roost as comfortable as possible and want our guests to be able to unwind and recharge the same as us - we all deserve great holidays!

Fantastic Cottage. We didn't want to leave !!!!
We spent the May half term 2017 in this beautiful cottage. It had recently been refurbished and I must say this is one of the best cottages that we have ever booked. It accommodated two adults and two children (10 and 13) comfortably. My daughters were delighted to discover the television had a subscription to movie streaming provided by the owners. They were also very pleased with the free WIFI!!
The village is so peaceful and the three pubs were all good for a meal and local beers. There are lovely walks nearby with plenty to see and do.
The cottage itself is immaculate with modern kitchen and bathroom fittings. The décor and furnishings are very tasteful and inviting. It was so lovely to get back in the evening, light the fire and settle down as a family to watch a movie and relax.
This is a charming cottage, well appointed and sympathetically renovated.
They only shame is that we only had it for a week. Highly recommended.
Dear Harwood family - We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at The Roost. We've tried really hard to make it as comfortable and homely as possible and are delighted to hear that we've hopefully achieved that. We all deserve great holidays and it's really important to us that our guests enjoy theirs. Hopefully we can welcome you back soon!

Really lovely warm cosy cottage with everything you need - it felt like home.
Askrigg is a charming village and The Roost is an exceptional property.
The Roost is an excellent property. Ruth and Stu have thought of absolutely everything to make their visitors comfortable. The cottage is charming and has all the old worldly charm yet it has been modernised to a high specification. The recently refitted kitchen and bathroom are both extremely attractive and well equipped with appliances. The lounge is cosy and we enjoyed relaxing in front of the TV - we enjoyed Netflix which we don’t have at home. The beds are good and bed linen lovely.
The location of the cottage means that you can start your walks from the front door. The village itself boasts several pubs and an excellent deli which means you can stay in and enjoy a delicious meal without the need for cooking!
All in all a five star experience!
Thank you so much for taking the time to submit your fabulous review! We really want people to have a comfortable, happy, holiday and feedback so far has been really positive, we're absolutely delighted. It's good to know that Netflix was useful - it makes a difference when we go away so we hoped it would for our guests too. We're so pleased you had a great time and enjoyed the area and cottage as much as we do.

Such a cosy, welcoming cottage. You feel it's charm the moment you see it!
Stunning cottage with everything you need to hand. High specification, with quality products throughout. Thoughtfully modernised without losing the charm of an 18th century cottage.
The owners have put so much thought into everything, lots of information to hand, helpful hints on the local area and reviews of local amenities.
We were blessed with sunny, dry weather so were able to explore outside, but our evenings (and any wet days) could be filled with many of the complimentary amenities - Netflix, Wifi (love the password!!), books, dvds, puzzles, or just sitting by the fire with a glass of wine!
There is so much to see around the local area and I'd urge anyone to do some homework beforehand to ensure that you make the most of the area during your stay. The 'Things To Do' section of 'The Roost's' website really helped give us lots of ideas to ensure that we were fully prepared!
The whole village is gorgeous and so friendly and welcoming. We tried 2 of the 3 pubs (the 3rd was having renovations!) Humble Pie is definitely worth a visit - cakes are so delicious!!
The mobile chip van comes along on a Wednesday night at 6pm - the queue is huge as it's so popular!
You definitely need to bring wellies/walking boots as on your doorstep you have beautiful walks taking in the most gorgeous views complete with stunning waterfalls.
All in all we had a fabulous time, beautifully crisp but sunny winters days in the fresh air followed by cosy nights in front of the fire.
Really didn't want to leave - we'll certainly be returning!!
Thank you Suzannah for such a great review! It's so great to know that guests love the village and cottage as much as we do. The 3rd pub (Kings Arms) has now re-opened having been refurbished and we are hearing good things about it. We look forward to welcoming you back any time. Ruth and Stu
Cosy cottage in a great location for walkers
Well equipped, lovely decor, wood burner, comfortable beds and fluffy duvets just what’s needed after a day walking in the dales.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review - we’re so pleased you had a good time and enjoyed The Roost and the area. We love those duvets! Ruth and Stu

There is very little allocated parking in the village of Askrigg. You can park all around the village on a first come first serve basis.
