A lovely villa close to beach, towns & hills
We had a lovely holiday in Portugal which was aided by a stay in this excellent villa. The listing is accurate, the villa is very large and well equipped and has been well maintained. Our week was very hot so air conditioning would have been a benefit, but fans are provided which help a lot. The space around the villa is large with a number of places where you can eat in the sun or the shade. The pool is very good and there are well established plants and flowers around the villa which makes being outside very pleasant.
The owner is very easy to deal with.
There are many attractions nearby, if you wish to eat out there are many restaurants along the coast, the quality of the food and the service is excellent.
I would certainly recommend this villa to friends and family, we had a great time.
A very comfortable and colourful home from home
the house is nice and big, with plenty of room for the family to spread out and it's very well equipped. There are lots of options for where you want to sit/eat outside, with some lovely hibiscus, bouganvillea, oleander, carob, palm, agave...we had 3 happy weeks here and mad friends with the cicadas and an enormous grasshopper. The artwork is really fun and different and adds a little extra character. Derek and Tatjana were really quick to respond when we had questions and were really accommodating and friendly.
yes, you are on a road and the sharp swing up the drive takes a bit of practice but really, the road is a bonus for getting to places very quickly and Portuguese roads are a damn site better than British ones! You are 5 mins from Loule or Bouliquieme which means you can hit good family beaches in 20 mins by car or get into the surrounding hills for scenic drives or villages as quickly.
we had visited the area before so we knew about places to visit nearby but perhaps for first timers a little guide to some nearby beaches, towns, villages, supermarkets, the odd map, would be helpful, or maybe a visitors book for people to suggest more detailed comments about places to visit.
Loule is great for a morning stroll and coffee and the Saturday market but these 'gipsy' markets are held in a number of places nearby on different days if you want to avoid the Loule crowds on a Saturday. Nearby Alte is lovely. Silves a bit further away for something more dramatic. We like Estoi and the pink palace as well and Sao Bras is a good place with some good restaurants as well. Eating out in Faro is excellent - we like it in the old town but the streets around the outer walls and marina are all great. Faro's well worth an evening or two.
Beaches are so varied and it depends how far you want to go but within 30 mins you can get to some great family ones. Falesia / Praia do Tomates (at Vilamoura) is great for kids - shallow, good body surfing waves. Quinta do Lago is sandy and less busy. There are loads of island beaches accessible via Faro or Tavira if you don't mind the crowds and ferries (in August). Cacelha Velha beyond Tavira is very nice if you get the tide right!
So overall this is a fine place to base yourself for an Algarve experience that takes in more than the beach, can access inland and be close to interesting towns but also those practicalities like supermarkets.
And the BBQ is nice and big. Great for a pool party!
just want to go back
Big place,private pool,amazing BBQ,fantastic sitting areas,hint of primitiveness,
in touch with modern amenities........just close your eyes, sit back and think of nothing.....the place assists you in whatever pleases you.
Relaxing Time at Casa Catarina
We are just back from two marvellous weeks in the Algarve having stayed at Casa Catarina just outside Loule. We chose this villa based on reviews we saw on the internet and the facilities the villa had and the photographs of it on the web. We were not disappointed and had a really relaxing time, spending most time outside in the many areas to sit and relax. Breakfasts every day at the table just outside the kitchen were great as was the BBQ's and eating at the gazebo table - just great. Derek and his wife were very helpful before and during our stay and although the villa is situated alongside a road, we got used to the occasional passing traffic. Previous reviewers have commented on the noise of dogs but this was not a major problem once used to it. The traffic noise at night was a bit of an issue but we learned to keep the bedroom windows closed and rely on the electric fans which were provided. The villa could have benefited from aircon but once we got used to the fans, then again, this was not a major problem. Although the location is ideal for us (as we stay in the country in the UK), I have to say that the access driveway took a lot of getting used to being so steep and near to the main road. again, though, we got used to this. Although rural in nature, it is just a short drive to Loule where we did our shopping at Contnente supermarket and about 15 mins from Vilamoura, where we spent a bit of our time. Mostly, though, we stayed at Casa Catarina, so anyone looking for a relaxing time in a great villa, I would not hesitate to recommend this one.
We loved this villa. Very comfortable and well furnished. The pool was lovely and there was quite a bit to do in the area. Enjoyed lazy mornings and more active late afternoons.
You do need a car here, as the villa is slightly out of the main tourist area, but driving in Portugal is relaxed and easy. We didn't encounter the mozzies that the previous reviewer mentioned and even took a late night dip in the pool using the pool lights. A great week, thanks!
The villa was excellent. Clean, although I would of made a few changes. The sheets in the double room would be better if they were white, so you could see the mossies. The patio area could of done with a better clean and sweep, although it is breezy and maybe this had been done. You need a car, unless you are prepared to catch taxis everywhere. We caught taxis and into our 3rd day of calling same taxi rank, they knew where to pick us up from. Owners were excellent and very helpful when emailing or phoning them. As there were empty kitchen cupboards I personally would of brought more kitchen utensils for kitchen but that's me. Had a great holiday in a lovely villa thanks
We do say a car is recommended but taxis are efficient and cheap.
