Great cottage in stunning scenic Hebden

We stayed for two nights - lovely warm cottage with plenty of space and great facilities. Just sitting and watching the wildlife at the window a real pleasure. Fiona ensured we enjoyed our stay. Great walks and pub/restaurant nearby. Would recommend

Stayed here for 4 nights wish it had been more. This is a lovely cottage, comfortable, clean , the perfect place to unwind. The setting is peaceful and rural but local pubs and lovely walks all close by. Would definitely recommend Mamie's Cottage to anyone who wants to explore the lovely Yorkshire Dales.

Everything here from your doorstep

  • 5 of 5

The cottage has everything you need. The owner was welcoming and helpful. The view from the breakfast room is 2nd to none (that we have ever seen). Looking down to a stream running over rocks and a pretty waterfall a little further downstream. You can step out of the front door and start various walks without using the car.

There is a friendly pub 2 mins drive away, or more to choose from in Grassington, 5 mins away by car.

We came in February for a 3 day stay, with 'changeable' weather, so was unable to explore to far. We would like to return in the summer to see more.

Owner's Response: I think 'changeable weather' was putting it kindly this week! But thank you Rob for your comments and it would be lovely to see you both back here in a warm and glorious Yorkshire Dales summer... Many thanks, Fiona

Quite Outstanding in every aspect.

I can not write highly enough of our stay in Hebden, or more precisely Hole Bottom. The location and walks from the door step are breathtaking whilst the standard of accommodation is first class- I almost don't want to write anything for fear of not being able to book again due to over demand! We stayed at Mamies and the view of hebden beck from the breakfast room is simply stunning whilst the cottage is only a 10 min walk to the local pub which serves lovely locally sourced dishes and fine beer. The stay is made all the much better by the books of David Joy (the owners father) who writes in detail on the history of the hamlet and the local industry of lead mining which when walking up the beck bring history to life as your pass the long deserted buildings and workings that make the area fascinating. Fiona, the owner, is lovely lady and can't do enough for you, her family has lived and farmed the area for over three centuries now! The walk from the cottage doorstep to Appletreewick and a lunch at The Craven Arms is quite simply one of the best walking experiences in the UK and in fact is the #1 country walk with a pub as published by The Guardian. If you like beautiful countryside, lovely walks, peacefulness but not complete remoteness then I don't think you could do better than stay at Hole Bottom as guests of the lovely Joy family.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your comments. As a family we have run Jerry and Bens Cottages for 50 years this year - your review sums up why the cottages have been loved by so many visitors over the years. You've summed the place up far better than I can! We're happy when guests love this place as much as we do. You both seem to have enjoyed the history of this area, its wild beauty and last but not least our favourite pub too! Thank you so much for getting the year off to a cracking start - we all hope to see you back here soon. Fiona and family

Perfect getaway in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

All we wanted and more. An amazing location alongside a babbling beck with wildlife aplenty. The cottage was immaculate and importantly warm as toast! Nice to have a spacious boot room to put the coats and gear before entering the house. 2 loos always nice as was the very comfortable beds. To be so isolated yet only a brisk 40 min walk over the fell into Grassington and 60 mins via the lovely River Wharfe path. A proper family run affair and it shows. Must ask Fiona if we can borrow her dogs next time!
