Adjoining a national forest, "Les Rochers" is a comfortable, spacious and self-contained apartment with accommodation for 4 people plus a baby. Comprising the ground floor of an elegant country house within private grounds of 7 acres, this gem of a gîte (as one of our guests calls it) has proved the perfect holiday destination for many families and couples exploring this wonderful part of France since 2005 when we welcomed our first guests. Comfortable bedrooms, a large interconnecting shower room with wc and a separate wc, a cosy lounge with satellite TV and a well equipped kitchen with indoor and outdoor dining all ensure you will have a perfect stay. The private outdoor dining terrace is surrounded by beds of lavender and enjoys wonderful views over the valley and mountains beyond. The extensive 7 acre grounds include a children's play area, a boules pitch, lawns and a heated swimming pool (shared only with the owners). Beyond the gates, numerous footpaths and bridle ways extend into the forest, making this an ideal location for lovers of wild life, rambling and mountain biking. The property is accessed by a part tarmac and part gravelled forest road, some distance from the village, and is perfect for all those seeking peace and tranquillity.

Although Les Rochers is world away from modern life, the nearby A75 autoroute leads to innumerable places of interest and the Mediterranean beaches are only a 50 minute drive away. The nearby medieval village of Soubès offers vibrant café life and a small shop, while the town of Lodève has art galleries, cathedral, supermarkets and much more. Winetasting, canoeing, wild swimming, horse riding and exploration of fascinating caves are all within half an hour's drive while, slightly further afield, the city of Montpellier has a wonderful aquarium, renowned museums and galleries, excellent restaurants and a fascinating old quarter. Just north of the property is the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Larzac, a wild and arid limestone plateau renowned for its charming Templar villages and the production of Roquefort cheese. You will not be bored; nor will the children ..!

Outside: Outdoor terrace( West facing) with gas barbecues and outdoor dining facilities. Private (heated off season) swimming pool 10mx3.5m with sun terrace and sunbeds. Shared only with owners. Minor time retrictions over lunch hour and evenings. Extensive gardens, to include areas of grass, gravel, pond,terraces, woodland . Children's swings, badminton area, table tennis table. There is also a nearby boules pitch and toddlers' play area Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen provided, with beds made up as requested. Clean linen available weekly.

A lovely property, off the beaten track in beautiful, peaceful countryside.

We had a lovely stay. The property was very clean and well maintained. The owners were very welcoming and happy to help with any queries. It is in a very quiet and peaceful location, which was lovely and relaxing, although you will need a car in order to reach the local shops and other amenities.

On the satellite view you will see the two properties of "Domaine des Rochers." "Les Rochers" is the house to the left, "La Primelle" is the property on the right. The surrounding gardens and national forest beyond, are yours to enjoy, with their wealth of wild flowers, animal and bird-life, and magnificent views.

The nearby fortified village of Soubes has a wonderful bar/restaurant in the village square.A little further is the historic town of Lodève with its many restaurants, bustling market, Gothic cathedral and fine museum and art gallery. Other nearby towns well worth visiting include Montpellier, Pézenas, Nimes (and the Pont du Gard), the port of Sète, and the fortified town of Carcassonne. Smaller villages such as Saint Guilhelm le Désert and the Knights Templar village of La Couvertoirade offer a unique perspective of France’s history.

A thirty minute drive to the north leads to Millau with its astounding modern viaduct and the ‘Gorges du Tarn’ beyond. Plenty of opportunity for water sports such as canoeing on the Hérault gorge and River Orb, and sailing, swimming or windsurfing on the nearby Lac du Salagou. Enjoy seafood at Mèze or Bouzigues overlooking the famous oyster beds, before taking a dip in the Mediterranean.

Head a little further east and visit the walled town of Aigues Mortes from where you can take a boat around the canals of ‘la petite Camargue’. Visit the famous caves of Clamouse, Aven Armand, and Grotte des Demoiselles. If you enjoy wine we can direct you to some of the many nearby domaines where your hosts will be delighted to explain their work and invite you to taste their wines.

Finally, when exhausted by the myriad of activities offered within this wonderful region, why not just stay ‘at home’ and relax in this haven of peace, or go walking in the surrounding mountains.

Coast/Beach:

The beaches of the Mediterranean are within a 50 minute drive (Cap d'Agde, Sète, Valras, Palavas, Frontignan), as are the fishing ports of Bouzigues, Mèze and Marseillan on the Etang de Thau with their wonderful sea food restaurants, and shallow safe bathing beaches.

Travel:

Montpellier and Béziers airports (Ryanair and Easy jet)) are 50 minutes away. Nimes, Carcassonne and Rodez are also handy. We are situated about a 9 hour drive from the channel ports. A car is essential. Montpellier with its TGV station is 50 minutes away.
