Alma provides flexible, stylish accommodation on four floors. With four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a large kitchen diner with range cooker, it provides the ideal accommodation for larger families. It is equally adaptable to accommodate groups holidaying together. Alma has been thoughtfully restored to retain many original features as well as having the modern amenities we have all come to expect. Skipton is a fantastic base for a Yorkshire break and with its excellent transport links easily accessible without a car. Alma is situated in a quiet, no through private road.
I am a part time teacher and my husband is a Biomedical Scientist at the local hospital. We live in a small village three miles from Skipton. It took over a year to find Alma, but when we did we both knew immediately that we could make it into a very special house. Seven months later with lots of hard work and numerous tins of paint we think we have achieved it. We love spending time at Alma with our springer spaniel Molly and are planning to live there permanently when we retire. Until then, we hope that you too enjoy Skipton and agree with us that Alma is a fantastic base from which to explore the town and surrounding area.
Kay Shackleton purchased this house in 2013
Skipton is a thriving market town and has been voted by the Sunday Times as the best place to live in Britain. It has an award winning high street and quaint historic alleys full of independent shops, cafes and restaurants to suit all tastes, and of course fantastic pubs serving award winning local ales. It is a town that attracts both local people and tourists alike. Alma is a minutes walk from all amenities and yet is situated in a quiet private road away from traffic and noise. It really couldn't be better placed. We love the fact that you can park the car and then forget about it. Skipton has excellent public transport links by rail and bus so you can easily explore the Dales as well as venture further afield, maybe on the famous Settle to Carlilse railway for example.
We have spent many a holiday ourselves in self catering cottages and have often left slightly disappointed. We have strived hard to not make staying at Alma one of those experiences. It is a spacious house with 4 stylish comfortable bedrooms and two bathrooms offering versatile well equipped accommodation for families and friends. Recently renovated, it has a new kitchen, boiler and en- suite. Having parking so close to Skipton is also a bonus. We can provide a travel cot and high chair on request at no extra cost. As keen walkers we have a selection of maps, books and information for your use, as well as a hosepipe for those muddy boots. Cyclists are welcome as are dog owners but please make enquires before booking to check that the arrangements are suitable for you.
9 nights of cosiness in a fabulous house in a great location. This house has everything for a comfortable stay. Beautiful comfy beds, oodles of space and the kitchen is very well kitted out. It just screams cook ...and relax. I had friends and family over and it was a great base. Thrice weekly market meant provisions were easy to get. 11 minutes on foot to the train station! We had day trips to Saltaire, Bolton Abbey and Grassington. Skipton itself has so much to offer. Particularly loved The Sound Bar..real ale..real people, smooth warm vinyl. The Pie and Mash shop has lots of vegetarian choice. The Narrow Boat is a great pub as is The Albion right on the doorstep. Good quiz. But Alma is the star of the show. Don't miss this opportunity to stay in a well styled, well planned out house from home. Wish it was my home. Kay was lovely to correspond with and kindly posted some stuff we had left behind. Thank you so much. Lynne, Hannah, Heather and Amelia.
Really enjoyed our stay here, Alma is a lovely house, great kitchen very well equipped. Plenty of room throught out , beds were very comfy. It was great to be so near the centre of Skipton, for shops and walking. Would definitely come again
Property was warm comfortable and beautifully maintained and was very convenient.
Lovely large property well presented and well laid out, large kitchen, we stayed as a group of 5 and plenty of space for everyone.
The property is located just off the main high street with parking right outside the front door, easy walking distance to the canal and all the nearby pubs, restaurants and shops
Skipton is a great place to stay and centrally located to the dales, check out ingleton falls, malham cove and Bolton abbey, absolutely stunning, great for dog walking
We had a great time and for presentation, location and amenities we couldn't fault this place, thank you for our lovely stay Alma

We had a lovely holiday using Skipton as a base for travelling through North Yorkshire. Alma is well appointed with enough space and facilities for a large family in 4 nice bedrooms, or for several couples holidaying together. The kitchen is well stocked with equipment and the lounge a decent place to relax. The washing machine is so useful after a couple of days away. There is a wealth of information provided to help you to decide where to go and what to do. We thoroughly enjoyed our break. Thank you Kay and Colin.
