Alma provides flexible, stylish accommodation on four floors. With four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a large kitchen diner with range cooker, it provides the ideal accommodation for larger families. It is equally adaptable to accommodate groups holidaying together. Alma has been thoughtfully restored to retain many original features as well as having the modern amenities we have all come to expect. Skipton is a fantastic base for a Yorkshire break and with its excellent transport links easily accessible without a car. Alma is situated in a quiet, no through private road.

About Kay Shackleton

I am a part time teacher and my husband is a Biomedical Scientist at the local hospital. We live in a small village three miles from Skipton. It took over a year to find Alma, but when we did we both knew immediately that we could make it into a very special house. Seven months later with lots of hard work and numerous tins of paint we think we have achieved it. We love spending time at Alma with our springer spaniel Molly and are planning to live there permanently when we retire. Until then, we hope that you too enjoy Skipton and agree with us that Alma is a fantastic base from which to explore the town and surrounding area.

Why Kay Shackleton chose Malhamdale

Skipton is a thriving market town and has been voted by the Sunday Times as the best place to live in Britain. It has an award winning high street and quaint historic alleys full of independent shops, cafes and restaurants to suit all tastes, and of course fantastic pubs serving award winning local ales. It is a town that attracts both local people and tourists alike. Alma is a minutes walk from all amenities and yet is situated in a quiet private road away from traffic and noise. It really couldn't be better placed. We love the fact that you can park the car and then forget about it. Skipton has excellent public transport links by rail and bus so you can easily explore the Dales as well as venture further afield, maybe on the famous Settle to Carlilse railway for example.

What makes this house unique

We have spent many a holiday ourselves in self catering cottages and have often left slightly disappointed. We have strived hard to not make staying at Alma one of those experiences. It is a spacious house with 4 stylish comfortable bedrooms and two bathrooms offering versatile well equipped accommodation for families and friends. Recently renovated, it has a new kitchen, boiler and en- suite. Having parking so close to Skipton is also a bonus. We can provide a travel cot and high chair on request at no extra cost. As keen walkers we have a selection of maps, books and information for your use, as well as a hosepipe for those muddy boots. Cyclists are welcome as are dog owners but please make enquires before booking to check that the arrangements are suitable for you.

  • The bright and airy bathroom has a separate shower and roll top bath with central taps and hand shower. It has an illuminating mirror above the sink The en-suite has a modern feel. It is fully tiled with a full width shower enclosure and electric shower.

On the second floor is a lovely double bedroom with a modern en-suite as well as as a further bedroom with two single beds.

Notes on accommodation: There is no smoking permitted inside Alma. Please note that Alma is situated between two residential properties and therefore is not suitable as a party house. One well behaved dog is welcome and we do not charge extra for this. We do however insist that your pet remains on the ground floor at all times and is kept off furniture. Please read the outside space section to make sure that these arrangements are acceptable. There are numerous walks in Skipton and surrounding area and as dog lovers ourselves we will provide you with lots of dog friendly walks, both from the doorstep and further afield. The spacious, stone flagged kitchen floor will allow cyclists to store their bikes safely. All we ask is that you hose muddy bikes down first. Outside: The outside space is enclosed and therefore safe for dogs and children but because of the nature of the properties it is not fully fenced off from residences either side. Please be aware of this if you are bringing a dog or small child. The colourful south/easterly facing patio is a relatively secluded area with seating for 7. There is parking for one car at the front of the property. Parking for a second car may be available on a first come first served basis. All other parking on the street is strictly private. Utility Room: The extensive cellar contains a washing machine and plenty of additional storage. It also has a stone sink for washing muddy boots. At the top of the cellar steps next to the kitchen is another fridge with freezer. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Freshly laundered towels,tea towels and bed linen are included. The property is thoroughly cleaned between each letting. If you stay for two weeks a change of towels and bed linen will be provided. Other: A bookcase on the hall landing contains a selection of OS explorer maps of the area that you are welcome to use during your stay as well as a selection of books and local information. Boardgames and toys can be found stored in the twin bedroom.

Great Stay

This is a perfect house for a break in Skipton and surrounding area. The location is great, bang in the middle of town but in a quiet cult de sac. The house itself has a lovely feel about it and isn't like the usual holiday rental. It has quality equipment such as the double cooker, 2 fridges and lots of cooking utensils. It has 2 good showers and lovely bedding and towels. I would recommend this house and would definitely love to stay here again - I wish it were mine!

Great location, well-equipped and lovely design and decor.

Really lovely house, spacious rooms, lovely furnishings and pictures but also very well-equipped especially in the kitchen. Lovely welcome from the owners of a tea tray with biscuits, milk in the fridge and flowers plus tea and coffee - wonderful! Location great, and parking for the car outside.

Alma is a lovely spacious house ideally situated in the heart of Skipton.

The four of us enjoyed our stay in Alma in the busy town of Skipton. Alma has plenty of room for four people and has a large well equipped kitchen. Being fairly tall people we did find the living room sofas a bit too low for our comfort. Parking was a challenge in Alma Terrace but we managed it each time we returned from a day out - and we had two cars. Highlights - Skipton Castle, East Riddleston House (NT) and the Hockney Exhibition at Saltaire.

So Near and Yet So Quiet!

Fantastic, quiet, undisturbed central location in Skipton and really close to a great selection of shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs. The house had everything we needed and more. Parking is tight but we managed 2 estate cars in the spaces available throughout our stay.

The train to Skipton from Leeds City centre takes 40 minutes.

A car is not essential as all amenities can be found within a short walking distance from the property.

Excellent public transport via bus and train available from Skipton to many places of interest in the surrounding area such as Grassington in the National Park, the spa towns of Ilkley and Harrogate and Settle where you can travel the scenic Carlisle railway.

Further Details:

All amenities are close by. Marks and Spencer Food store is only a 2 minute walk away and is open until 8pm. Local butchers and a bakery are also a stones throw away, as is an excellent coffee shop, favoured by locals.

The colourful market is in Skipton on Mon, Wed, Fri and Sat bringing people into town from far and wide.

With its wide range of eating establishments to suit all tastes and budgets along with a number of pubs serving award winning locally brewed ales you are spoilt for choice.

Skipton is situated on one of the most scenic stretches of the Leeds Liverpool canal. It is also home to one of the most complete medieval castles in England. At over 900 years old it is well worth a visit.

Skipton is known as The Gateway to the Dales and is a walkers and cyclists paradise. Also within easy reach are Embsay Steam Railway and Bolton Abbey.
