Beautiful cottage with a secluded raised garden, two bedrooms with sea views & central but quiet location close to beach
Please scroll through to the last paragraph for information on how to book at between 10% and 20% lower prices.
A unique and beautifully designed artist’s cottage full of original and interesting features, with an idyllic, sunny and secluded raised garden. It is situated in a quiet lane close to the Barbara Hepworth and Trewyn gardens, and is only two minutes stroll from the main cobbled streets, restaurants, harbour and sandy beaches.
It has two good sized bedrooms (one with a double bed and one with two singles), and comfortably accommodates four people. Both bedrooms look out over the garden and sea beyond. The cottage has been stylishly renovated with a light and airy open plan feel with plenty of sky lights and different levels giving it a distinctive and original feel. The many features include the unique hand made wood burner and fireplace, ceramic and marble worktops and natural rose coloured slate floor in the kitchen, wooden shutters on the bedroom sash windows and hand-crafted woodwork throughout.
The sunny conservatory / dining room is surrounded by the beautiful raised garden and curved deck full of subtropical plants, flowers and fruit trees. The sunny south facing garden looks down over the harbour. The curved raised deck has a tree growing through it and is a magical place to lie in the hammock under the tree canopy, to have breakfast on a sunny morning, looking out to the sea, or to enjoy alfresco dining at the garden table surrounded by Jasmine, Passion flowers and sub tropical plants.
Garden Cottage is described by so many of our guests as a gem of a cottage and once they have stayed, most of our guests return year after year. It is perfectly situated only a short stroll to the restaurants and beaches and yet the lane is very quiet and peaceful with stunning sea views. The elevated secluded garden is a rare feature to have in St Ives and is tended weekly by the owner who is an artist (and keen gardener)! The owner lives in St Ives and her and her husband lovingly look after it themselves and so guests are assured that it will always be beautifully cared for, cleaned and presented with fresh flowers, milk, biscuits, tea and coffee, and many other essentials and homely touches,
This site was taken over by Expedia a couple of years ago and is now not direct at all as it’s name still suggests. It charges guests an extra fee called a service fee of up to 10% (they are vague about the percentage which varies, and don’t tell the owners they charge this) even though we pay £300 a year to advertise. They also charge you for every credit card transaction and then add vat on top. They then charge the owners a further 3% ontop of the fee they already paid to advertise and don’t pay us until after you arrive even if you booked a year ago. As a result the prices here will be considerably higher than on most of the owners’ own sites. If you would like to deal with me direct as this site was originally designed for, please look up garden cottage stives co uk (put it all together and add in the dots) where you can book, call me for a chat, and not pay any exorbitant fees. Thank you, Rachael

About Rachael Kantaris
Rachael and Christian live in St Ives with their three young daughters. Rachael is a printmaker and painter who runs the Porthmeor Print Workshop where she makes colour etchings and teaches. When she is not there she is around the corner working in her painting studio. Christian is a carpenter, musician and property renovator. He does the maintainance on many of the holiday properties in town, and having designed, renovated and hand crafted every inch of their own property, they lovingly look after Garden Cottage themselves.
Rachael Kantaris purchased this Cottage in 1998
Why Rachael Kantaris chose St Ives
Because we have renovated and built much of the cottage ourselves, it is unique in character and extremely well cared for. You won’t find the generic Ikea look here as so many of the cottages are furnished, at Garden Cottage the furniture has been lovingly found or made and much of it is hand painted. Real artwork is on the walls, the beds are super comfortable, and the wood burner and beautiful garden ensure that whether winter or summer you will be happy, cosy and relaxed in this haven of peace in the heart of St Ives.
What makes this Cottage unique
Garden Cottage is described by so many of our guests as a gem of a cottage, and once they have stayed, most of our guests return. It is perfectly situated only a short stroll to the restaurants and beaches and yet the lane is very quiet and peaceful with stunning sea views. The garden is a rare feature to have in St Ives and it catches the sun all day long being south facing. The owner lives in St Ives and her and her husband lovingly look after it themselves and so guests are assured that it will always be beautifully cared for, cleaned and presented with fresh flowers, milk, biscuits, tea and coffee. The garden is tended every week and contains many sub tropical plants mixed in with cottage garden flowers. There is a hammock for your use and a curved raised deck with trees growing through it. The perfect place to lie under the trees or sit out dining alfresco, looking down over the harbour, or to have a barbecue which is provided in the pretty slate roofed shed.

Another lovely relaxing week at Garden Cottage!
We have just returned home after our second week's stay at Garden Cottage, St Ives. Last year, we spent a week there in late September, and were bowled over by how warm, cosy and inviting our holiday accommodation turned out to be. St Ives. Right from opening the front door, we felt very much at home. Garden Cottage has everything needed to make your holiday special. There is a lovely conservatory to sit in if the weather is a little drizzly or chilly, and outside there is a beautiful garden with a decked area at the bottom which gives views over the rooftops of St Ives to the sea in the distance. The perfect place to while away an afternoon reading the papers, or for an early evening glass of vino before heading out for supper. If you feel like staying in though, there are comfy sofas, a well equipped kitchen, both underfloor and central heating, which would entice even the most ardent of holidaymakers to spend a night in watching the TV. Another real bonus for staying at Garden Cottage is its location - being just a few steps away from the main shopping streets of St Ives, the waterfront, and spectacular views out to sea. Garden Cottage is serene, calm and quiet however - there were no problems getting a good night's sleep!
Thank you so much for your lovely comments about your stay, it was so nice to meet you this time and I am really happy you found the holiday so comfortable and relaxing. See you again another time, Rachael
Beautiful airy cottage that looks just like its pictures. Hard to believe such an inventive use of space — and a pretty garden. Central to everything, with a short steep walk home, perfect for mitigating dinner at another St Ives restaurant. Strongest memory is of the light, from the conservatory with heated floor to skylit bathroom. What a lovely nest for exploring St Ives, its galleries and the Tate.
Lovely cottage - a true home from home!
We love this cosy cottage - it is located in a great spot, just a short walk up from the Barbara Hepworth Museum, close to shops and excellent restaurants, but nice and quiet at the same time.
We stayed in the double room and our daughter and her gandma had the twin room, which was perfect for us.
The cottage has a wonderful garden and decked area, excellent for outside breakfasts with lots of sunshine and a lovely view.
The kitchen is well equipped, we found everything we needed. Rachael and Christian looked after us very well - very friendly and helpful, they are doing an excellent job maintaining the house and put a lot of creativity into it.
We especially loved the stylish interior with original etchings and paintings and the conservatory, which is another great feature.
We will be back and would recommend this property to a friend anytime!
Fantastic location and lovely cottage
Family of four, stayed at the cottage over easter holidays. Was perfect for us; in town but without having to navigate the tiny lanes of Downalong, short walks to harbour, Porthmeor/Tate and the coast path out to Zennor and a lovely garden to sit out in. View from bedroom over to Godrevy lighthouse perfectly framed. Would definitely stay again.
A real Cornish gem
We had a lovely stay - the cottage is well located close to shops and the beaches. It has lots of character whilst having everything you need for a relaxing break (for families with young children). It was great to meet its friendly owner too. Highly recommended.
Fantastic Holiday Cottage
A wonderful Cottage with stunning sea and harbour views from inside and in the beautifully tendered garden. Stepping inside a wonderful ambiance radiates inside you. Very tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean with home from home comforts catered for. Breakfast in the large sunny conservatory is a lovely way to start the day. Rachel and Christian were helpful, friendly and displayed excellent communication at all times. Would highly recommend to anyone Will certainly be back to experience Garden Cottage again.
Thank you for the lovely review! That's exactly how we hope guests will feel at the cottage, so glad you felt so at home. You are very welcome back and I hope to meet you both next time (maybe in my studio), Rachael
