About the property

3 bed terraced cottage with magnificent views and within short walk to village and beach

It was built at the turn of the last century to house staff of Penhelig Lodge. The external walls are 18" thick, very much needed due to its elevated position. A 'Multifuel' stove in the lounge gives the cottage an extra homely feel, especially on chilly evenings. It is well equipped for guests with WIFI connection, IPod docking station, Digital radio, Bosch 'Tassimo' drink maker, Freeview TV,'Now' TV box for catch-up TV, DVD player with assorted DVDs, Stereo Radio/CD unit, CDs, board games, books, maps and many other 'extras'. You can even learn to speak Welsh! Other facilities include 2 hairdryers, full length mirror and bedside alarm clocks. An iron, ironing board, slow cooker and cooking utensils. A high chair, travel cot (no linen), plug-in nightlight and a stair gate are also provided for infants. In the summer, tennis racquets, balls and a windbreak are all provided for guests use. Please note: lets are from Friday to Friday or short breaks Friday to Monday, Monday to Friday. Towels are not included (apart from Tea-towels) but are available at extra charge by prior arrangement. Please note that access to the property may be difficult for clients with mobility issues and the garden may not be suitable for very young children. If in doubt, please phone the owner for advice before booking.

About Annette Leyland

CARA is formed from the initials of grandson, Christopher, son and daughter, Andrew and Rebecca and myself, Annette. I have owned it since 1999 and have thoroughly modernised and improved it during this time and continue to do so. I try to get to Aberdovey to check it out every 6-8 weeks but out of this time it is in the very capable hands of my housekeeper Su and her family who live locally. I have spent many happy times in CARA and hope that people renting the property will love it as much as I do. I am very lucky to have such a lovely home in an outstanding position.

I still work full-time as a Nurse Specialist in cancer care so am not always immediately available to respond to booking requests. I am happy to accept bookings directly via email.

Annette Leyland purchased this cottage in 1999

Why Annette Leyland chose Gwynedd - Snowdonia

My first visit to Aberdovey - I fell in love with it!

It was so lovely for my children growing up and I now look forward to doing the same with grandchildren.

What makes this cottage unique

There is nothing better than returning from a walk on the beach or hills on a cold and windy day than to a warm and cosy house. The recently installed 'Multifuel' stove will be welcomed and used all year round. In summer, I like nothing more than sitting in the garden, sipping chilled wine and watching people on the beach!

There is an outside light on automatic timer and an additional light to illuminate the back/side passageway. Reclining chairs are provided for sun bathing or relaxing. There is a wooden seat facing the magnificent sea views and there are numerous pots with seasonal plants giving the cottage a 'Mediterranean' feel. A bird bath, if filled, attracts the local robin as well as other birds. The communal washing line at the end of the garden is for the use of the other cottages and catches a good breeze, ideal for drying towels - Pegs are provided Utility Room: Rear 'stable' door with access from front of property. We have been coming to Cara Cottage for 4 years now and we just love this place. The accommodation is warm and cosy, very well maintained, spotlessly clean and equipped with just about everything you could possibly need at hand. The views are outstanding and the location is perfect for exploring the surrounding areas.

If you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing break, look no further because it is all here ... Aberdovey is simply beautiful! Unspoilt beaches, rolling surf, inviting pubs and restaurants what more could you ask for!

Thank you Annette. Can't wait until next year.

Excellent Cottage with Stunning View

  • 5 of 5

Our family spent a week in Cara and had a thoroughly superb holiday. The cottage itself is immaculate and really well equipped, and the location is perfect; close to town, beach, train, great walks and a panorama you'll never get bored of! Would definitely recommend.

Owner's Response: Thank you James for leaving this great review and I am so glad you enjoyed your time at Cara. The cottage had a thorough make-over late last year so is even more welcoming for my guests. The view from the house needs no amendment - it is magnificent any time of year!

Gorgeous cottage and amazing view!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous stay in CARA cottage with our family over half term and highly recommend it. Everything had been provided to make us welcome and ensured a comfortable stay. The view was amazing to wake up to and the log burner lovely in the evening. We enjoyed collecting shells on the beach and exploring Snowdonia. Thank you for a great holiday.

Owner's Response: Thank you Jo for leaving your review of Cara Cottage. I am so glad you enjoyed your stay and were able to get out and about. Aberdovey is a very special place - always lots of shells on the beach to collect and in warmer times, children (and adults!) love catching crabs off the jetty. I hope you will return again with your family.

Car: recommended

The centre of the village with 3 pubs, church, sandy beach, sand dunes, children's play area and Lifeboat Station are a 10 minute walk downhill from CARA cottage.

A car is recommended but not necessary as both buses and trains serve the village. There is a rail link from Birmingham via Shrewsbury and Machynlleth to the local station in Aberdovey. This line then travels on to terminate at Pwllheli. CARA Cottage is a 15 minute uphill walk from Aberdovey station. Buses from the village also travel the local coastline via Machynlleth to Borth and Aberystwyth.

Tywyn is the nearest small town to Aberdovey and is approximately 4 miles or a 10 minute drive away. Tywyn has two supermarkets and is home to the famous Talyllyn Railway - a narrow-gauge railway which runs from Tywyn to Abergynolwyn and Nant Gwernol and passes through the beautiful Dolgoch Falls with many walks. The mountain Cader Idris lies at the southern end of Snowdonia National Park near the town of Dolellau which is within easy reach and is lovely to climb on a fine day.

Further Details:

The village boasts 3 pubs which all serve food and traditional draught beers. All have outdoor seating and children are welcome in the pubs in family areas. There are several local restaurants serving a variety of food including Indian. Several coffee houses, cafes and the local chip shop are on the sea front. Numerous shops sell fashions, beach equipment, toys and novelties and Ice Cream. A children's play area with slide and swings is situated next to the beach. The beach has a jetty and Lifeboat Station and Donkey rides in the summer. Young children enjoy catching crabs off the jetty and local shops sell the necessary equipment such as buckets, crabbing lines, bait and nets. There are also tennis courts, a putting green and 'flat' bowling green within walking distance. Woods (Bowls) can be hired, as can tennis equipment although 2 racquets are provided. Crown Green bowling and 'Crazy Golf' can be found at Tywyn.
