Trip of a Lifetime!

Shirley was amazingly patient while dealing with USA banks to book. The cottage is gorgeous! The inside is very modern. We were fortunate enough to be there while they filmed an episode of "Doc Martin", so we were able to hang with the cast most of the day.

The beds are so comfy, the bathrooms very modern. Shirley has a nice setup of SkyTV and Doc Martin DVD's to entertain yourself at night. You walk in and feel at home. It feels like walking into a very modern boutique home. I miss it already!

Even Martin Clunes himself commented on how nice the place was. Loved talking to the people who stopped by to snap a photo of the famous exterior. We will be back! Aiming for this summer! Don't hesitate to book this gorgeous home!

Happy wife happy life

  • 5 of 5

Booked the cottage as the front is used in the Doc Martin series, which is one of my wife's favorite shows. The cottage is compact but has everything you need and we had a lovely time together here for four days. The village is a great little place and for three of the fur days the car didn't move as we found lots of places to walk and enjoy the scenery.

If this cottage was 1 mile inland, it would be amazing. Beautifully done, high end finish, warm and homely. The fact that it's in Port Isacc with parking makes it even more fantastic. Now add in that it is Doc Martin's surgery and it goes off the scale. I challenge anyone to show me a better morning view from a bedroom window in the UK. Yes, some may get annoyed by the endless stream of Doc Martin fans making the pilgrimage up Roscarnock Hill, it was a little like Notting Hill, and made us feel like celebrities; but I found it heartwarming to see all the smiling faces as they catch a glimpse of the surgery. On more than one occasion I allowed people to stand in the open doorway for photos.. it somehow made up for my car being sat outside and spoiling the shot. Love Port Isaac, love Fern Cottage, love the Mote Restaurant and love the Nasty Pasty shop!!!

We can't wait to re- book Fern Cottage and although not "cheap" the premium is more than worth it.

Sad to leave, and even at the ripe old age of me 50, I shed a little tear as I closed the door

Perfect! All you could need, spotlessly clean, warm & snug.

We had the time of our lives - my father will be dining out on his Doc Martin experience for ever!! (which was my aim in planning this 80th birthday surprise.) This is THE tourist attraction in Port Isaac and while we enjoyed this, you do need to be aware that this is no ordinary cottage and that people are outside taking photos and chatting most of the time (even at the very end of the summer season) so be prepared for an audience when you're coming and going (and parking - which might be a tricky with a big car!) This was all part of the fun for us but just be aware.

The property itself is lovely. All mod cons but still homely, appropriately rustic and genuinely Cornish. Warm and snug out of season which isn't the case in all holiday cottages. Shirley was helpful in the extreme, suggesting things to do and places to go/eat as well as giving details of more basic but potentially necessary services in the area - you'd have to go to Wadebridge for a chemist, for example, as Mrs Tishell's pharmacy is really a fudge shop! It was also lovely to be able to speak to Shirley in person, not just an agent, before we went.

All in all, a wonderful and memorable experience for us and a new catch-phrase for my Dad - "It's not like that inside, y'know!" !!
