About Dorota Falkowska

Dorota, Neil and family would like to welcome you to Fernyford. Big Fernyford Farm is an upland stock farm. We are proud of our Swaledale sheep, Valais Blacknose sheep and Belted Galloway cattle. These animals are our passion.

Fernyford Farm is a traditional farm, and we love living here. This is a great part of the world, and we would really enjoy being able to share it with our guests. So, we look forward to welcoming you here on the farm! If you have any questions please don't hesitate to get in touch. We look forward to hearing from you!

Why Dorota Falkowska chose Buxton

Fernyford Barn is a real escape to the country. Peaceful, luxurious and ideally located to explore the Peak District. You can walk, cycle, bird watch or explore the farm. Visit amazing local attractions and towns like Buxton, Chatsworth or even Alton Towers or simply rest in the Barn with a good book and a glass of wine. Fernyford offers a perfect balance between being able to completely unwind, or, if you prefer, getting involved with the day to day life of a working farm! We are more than happy to offer our guests the opportunity to experience seeing the livestock on the farm, the different farming operations throughout the year and to taste quality meat produced here at Big Fernyford Farm.

What makes this barn unique

Farming never stops and there is always something to see. Neil, farmer and champion sheep shearer, is always happy to share farming life with guests - a real adventure for kids and adults alike.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Wonderful location with friendly hosts, the ideal place for a family holiday!

My wife and I stayed at the farm with our 4 month old baby and we had an amazing time at the hotel. The accommodation is advertised as being baby friendly and I'm pleased to say it definitely was as a baby bath and cot were provided and there was even an offer to organize baby sitting if we wanted it!

The accommodation is finished to a high standard and is well equipped with the various things you might need for a holiday. However, its the location and the people that really make this a special place to stay. The farm is located in what feels like the middle of nowhere so its the perfect place to escape the world of office work, yet there are plenty of things to do near by and there are a number of good pubs within driving distance that serve good food. That being said, Neil and Dorota butcher the farms meat on site, so there's a plentiful supply of sausages, burgers and steaks on site that will make you want to cook your own meals rather than head to the pubs. If you stay here I'd definitely recommend the meat balls! They were amazing!

Neil and Dorota were brilliant hosts and were always around to say hello and check we had everything we needed. They also went the extra mile with little things, like letting us know they were going to be sheering their rare breed sheep from Switzerland, so that we could go and watch. I can safely say that our baby daughter was blown away by this!

I'd definitely stay here again (even if its just to taste the meat balls again!) and would thoroughly recommend this for people with families who are looking to escape to the countryside for a bit.

Beautiful cottage in the snow!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is beautifully decorated and really well kitted out, we had everything we needed and were so comfortable. We visited during the recent snowy weather and did get snowed in, but that was a great excuse to just relax. Dorota and Neil were really welcoming and made sure we got out safely, clearing the very snowy drive for us. Would definitely love to return.

A country escape that was even better than we imagined!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and two children (3yr & 1yr) stayed at the cottage for six nights and it was an incredible stay! Darota and Neil’s hospitality is second to none; they were so friendly and accommodating (and answered our endless questions about all things sheep). Our three-year-old son was in heaven; he got to ride in the tractor, watch the sheep get sheered, play with the farm cat, hold baby chicks and play with Neil and Darota’s children, Shimon and Barney. Shimon and Barney were so kind to our son; patient and warm. The slide, tree house and backyard were all enjoyed!

The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay and the farms beauty (great views, crisp air and beautiful cottage and farm house) is enchanting. The games, books and toys were enjoyed by the children and my husband and I appreciated the comfortable bed, wonderful water pressure and coffee maker (Americans love their coffee!!)

We were fortunate to see a family of four badgers run across one of the fields as we were having a picnic under a tree. In over 25 visits to England, this was my first experience seeing live badgers, what a treat!

We tried a variety of meats from the farm- my favorites were the venison and wine sausage and the filet mignon; my husband enjoyed the lamb chop and rib eye. We grilled everything on the BBQ in the private courtyard area; such a relaxing space. The heather honey was divine, I highly recommend buying some (or a lot, and take it home with you!). It was a wonderful retreat to spend some quality time with family and we are all hoping to return soon.

Luxurious accommodation with a warm welcome

  • 5 of 5

We've just returned from our fourth visit to Fernyford Farm. We will also be booking another return visit in the near future! Having stayed in many cottages in the Peak District, this is now a firm favourite with us.

The cottage is wonderful - very well equipped with everything you'll need, spotlessly clean and furnished to a very high standard indeed. Little touches like a normal sized hair dryer rather than a travel one make a real difference. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need for proper cooking which is often not the case with holiday rentals (and plenty of everything too so you're not constantly washing up!). Upstairs, the beds are super comfy and the shower is wonderful too!

There is also always a pint of milk on plenty of tea and coffee on arrival ensuring you can get on with enjoying your break straight away.

Dorota and Neil are wonderful hosts, providing a really warm welcome to you as guests on their farm. They are more than happy to take time out of their busy days to talk about farming and have been wonderful at helping our 2 boys to understand a bit more about farm life. The location of the cottage is perfect for exploring the Peak District - within easy reach of both Leek and Buxton but maintaining that feeling of really being out in the heart of the countryside.

Overall, throughout all 4 of our visits so far, we have not yet found anything to complain about at Fernyford! Well worth a visit!
