About Jane Yates
We (Tim and Jane) realised a 10 year dream when we moved to Sainte Marie de Campan in December 2013. After 30 years with the Metropolitan Police Tim retired in 2012 and we started our house hunt in France. We had holidayed all over France and enjoyed all the different regions but the Hautes Pyrenees has always been our favourite area. We wanted a to find a house with lots of character, in a tranquil setting, near the ski resorts and surrounded by beautiful walks and were so lucky to find a home that ticked all the boxes. Our sons are currently at university in the UK and we're looking forward to their visits in the holidays. Now that we've settled in we're busy discovering the wonderful surrounding walks with our two Border Terriers Eddy and Charlie.

Brilliant place for a cycling break.
Couldn’t fault the place. The location is ideal for the Cols of Tourmalet, Aspin and Hourquette and not far from loads of other great climbs.
The Gite is spacious and well-equipped and a dip in the pool is most welcome after a hot day on the bike.
One thing I must mention, though it didn’t bother me personally, the neighbours dogs are extremely vocal when people come and go. Anyone who’s very nervous of dogs might find them a bit off-putting.
When we arrived, unfortunately the jaccuzzi was not ready. Although it was very cold Tim and Jane told us that they normally do not use the heating system in this time of year. We could use a paraffin heater, but since there was no ventilation we got a big headache.
So we asked them to turn on the central heating. They did but only in the morning between 08.00 and 09.00 and in the evening between 17.00 and 21.00. So around 22.00 it was freezing cold. We had to ask again to turn on the heating system longer because we were cold and wanted to decide for ourselves which time we were going to bed. After three days they got the picture and gave us an electric heater and turned the central heating on much longer. But it was an amazing experience.
Luckily we made a lot of beautiful hikes.
But we will not recommend this gite.
We tried our very best to make your stay a pleasurable one. When you arrived, it was a warm and sunny day and we explained that as it was June we had turned the heating off but that there was a fuel heater for you to use if needed. We also said to let us know if you were too cold and we would put the heating back on for you. You told us not to worry as you preferred a cool room. The next day you complained about the fuel heater. We were surprised as this is the first time in six years that anyone has said the heater was a problem, in fact our guests frequently tell us how good it is. Of course we didn’t want you to be cold so we put the heating on for you. We asked you what times you would like the heating on and we followed your instructions as it can only be controlled from our house. When you phoned later in the evening to say you were cold we turned the thermostat up and left the heating on until later for you. The following day we brought you an additional electric heater to replace the fuel one so that you could better control the temperature yourselves and we left the heating on as requested. On Friday you complained that the duvet was too hot. We offered to turn the heating down but you said you wanted it left on but wanted a thinner duvet so we left the heating on and got you a thinner duvet.
We were quite taken aback that you made no initial offer to pay for the charging of your electric car on our electricity. The rental price includes electricity but this does not include powering a vehicle for the 2 week duration of your stay and so we had to ask you if you wouldn’t mind paying for whatever you thought you had used.
I can only apologise that the jacuzzi was not quite ready for the first night of your stay. As we explained and apologised at the time, we had been, for reasons beyond our control delayed returning from holiday and so the water had not quite had time to heat to the preferred temperature. It was ready for you by the second day. We showed you how to use the jacuzzi and asked you not to change any of the control/cleaning settings. You did try to adjust the settings which caused them to lock and jam affecting the filtering and heating system. You left the jacuzzi in a poor state of cleanliness as you did the gite when you left.
Cosy and perfect to relax in the hot tub after a busy day skiing!!
Lovely home from home
Hi Kerry great to have you here look forward to seeing you next year.
Tim and Jane
I have just spent a wonderful week at this gite. The location is excellent and well equipped and maintained. Tim and Jane are lovely and were very helpful
I would definitely recommend this gite
Thank you very much for your lovely review. We really enjoyed your company and are so glad you enjoyed your holiday here. Hopefully see you again soon.
What a view!
The warmest of welcomes awaits from Jane and Tim when you arrive at their charming and comfortable little gite, surrounded by the most wonderful views of the Pyrenees. On the road to the Col du Tourmalet, of Tour de France fame, the gite is ideally situated for walkers, cyclists and sightseers of every age group, and Jane and Tim will go out of their way to ensure that you have everything you need to make your stay enjoyable.
A Pyranneen Delight
My wife and I spent a fortnight in the Gite de Midi and have no hesitation in recommending it to others. Tim and Jane Yates made us very welcome and throughout our stay were most helpful without being intrusive. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Situated a kilometre or thereabouts up the road to the Col de Tourmalet from the village of Ste Marie de Campan (boulangerie, general store and 2 modestly priced restaurants) with the market town of Bagnere de Bigorre with its supermarches and a wide variety of shops only some 20 minutes away by car it was an excellent base for exploring the higher lands of the Pyrannees in that area: plenty of varied walks through high pasture land or serious cyling on the routes of the Tour de France Alernatively for the less active, picnic by Le Lac de Payolle en route to Col d'Aspin and the attractive village of Arreau. At the same time it was an easy drive to Lourdes, Lannemezan and the contrasting villages, hills and valleys of Les Baroonnies
We are situated in the centre of the Hautes Pyrenees so by car it is approximately 2 hours to Biarritz on the Atlantic coast and 3 hours to Narbonne on the Mediterranean coast.

We are two minutes drive from the village of Sainte Marie de Campan with its small but well stocked supermarket, two restaurants bar, cafe, pizzeria, boulangerie and bar. You will find many more cafes, restaurants and shops in the beautiful spa town of Bagneres de Bigorre which is only 15 minutes drive from the gite. Why not visit its excellent traditional market which is held every Saturday morning, relax and pamper yourself in the Aquensis spa or try your luck in the casino.
The Tour de France passes our drive most years and is definitely something not to missed. For the keen cyclists the famous cols of Tourmalet and Aspin are right on our doorstep.
Take a scenic drive over the cols and explore the neighbouring valleys where you will find the 'Grands Sites Pyrenees' including the famous Cirque Gavarnie and the beautiful Pont D'Espagne. The religious sites of Lourdes and Saint Bertrand de Comminges are just a short drive away.
