Overview

About the property

Cottage - Padstow, Cornwall, England - cul de sac location. country & estuary view. Close to local amenities,

Spindrift is a two bedroom 'cottage' which we completely remodelled in 2008. Decorated with a seaside feel and with all mod cons, this is an ideal getaway cottage for a long weekend or family holiday. Situated in a peaceful cul de sac with open country views makes this a superb location for peace and privacy.

Open plan living and well equipped with a 4 STAR Visit England rating, you can be assured that a very good standard is maintained. The ground floor living area opens to the south facing garden with a decked terrace and lower area with a bbq. Two sunbeds, table and chairs and a bench are provided in the garden.

Upstairs are two bedrooms, a double and a twin and a shower room. Both bedrooms have good storage facility. Good quality large bath and hand towel are included with your bed linen. Beds are made up for your arrival.

We have a local house manager who is available should have any queries. Lat arrivals are catered for with a key safe box.

The views are to open countryside with estuary views from the double bedroom. Private parking facility in the car part next to the cottage and/or in front of our garage a few steps away.

Facilities include TV, dishwasher, washer/dryer, fridge, freezer, microwave, DVD player, ipod dock. Spindrift is in an internet hotspot for accessing BT fon or BT wifi which you can purchase on line or this is free if you already have a BT account.

From the cottage there are various routes into Padstow and you can approach via the far end of the harbour, passing all the interesting sites on route with the sea on your right. There will be plenty to explore in the town and if you feel like visiting some of the many beautiful beaches just carry on through the town up to the monument where you will get a fantastic view of the beaches on your right hand side. Restaurants are aplenty and it is wise to book in advance. There are some very good gastro pubs which generally don't need to be booked. Most shops and pubs are dog friendly as are many of the beaches. If you enjoy surfing there is plenty of opportunity to pursue this sport and with the ferry crossing to Rock just across the water you can enjoy the facilities of its golf club and course. There are many interesting shops and galleries to visit in Padstow and it is a pleasure just to stroll around and enjoy the harbour views.

About Sheila and Adrian Yelland

I have been involved with property for as long as I can remember and when we first visited Begur in we thought it a wonderful region and decided to buy a holiday home, Casa Alfora.

We rented it out through a local agent the first year (2001). After that I decided to rent it out myself and since then we have built two more houses and purchased another in Begur all of which are on this site. Gradually I built up a business and we now have our own website featuring property in Spain, Italy, Greece and Portugal.

Poros Island, Greece is a favourite destination of ours where we have a house overlooking the harbour and on the mainland, both with amazing views and both of which are featured on this website.

Now we have added our lovely Padstow cottage to this site. We hope you like it!

Why Sheila and Adrian Yelland chose North Cornwall

We love Padstow. There is such an air of relaxation and cheer away from the rush of our normal busy lives. The pace is slow and good....The beaches are beautiful and the air is clean. We like eating out in the many and varied restaurants and gastro pubs; just wandering around Padstow and its harbour is a delight. We wanted a house where we could walk into Padstow and this takes just 10 minutes, and a further few minutes to the amazing beaches with wonderful views. There are many coastal and inland walks which we greatly enjoy. Long weekend or or longer family holiday; both as enjoyable as each other. We are sure you won't be disappointed if you stay in our 'cottage' as we have tried to make it as special as possible taking great care to maintain it well with good local management.

What makes this cottage unique

Spindrift is easy to run and very comfortable and cosy. The decked terrace is south facing; a real sun trap and the views are most relaxing with no houses in front of us. From the double bedroom you have estuary views of wonderful sunsets and sunrises. We totally transformed the house when we bought it in 2008 and turned it from a 3 to a 2 bedroom house to create more upstairs space and made the downstairs open plan. The decor is similar to a house we have on the Greek island of Poros and helps us feel close to the sea and beaches!

We have included all mod cons in the house and although it is small compared to our main home we feel very at home in Spindrift. We decided this year to advertise Spindrift on Owners Direct rather than rent through a local agency.

Perfect Cornish holiday location

  • 5 of 5

Spindrift is ideally situated within 10 minutes walk of Padstow. The property is beautifully furnished with lovely large paintings on the walls, modern furniture, nice white linen and the rear view across open fields is a welcome sight at any time. We are a family of 4 and the rooms were more than adequate for our needs, the kitchen and dining area spacious and the lounge area comfortable. We would happily recommend and return ourselves.

A perfect base for an excellent holiday.

  • 5 of 5

Spacious enough to accommodate a couple and two young children, in a great location ten minutes walk from the front at Padstow (fifteen minutes back up the hill, but fine with a seven and nine year old!). Using Spindrift as a base you can quickly get to some of Cornwall's best highlights - Tintagel, Eden Project, The Camel Trail, multiple excellent beaches and of course Padstow itself. Highly recommended.

Coast/Beach:

North of the town is a super stretch of sand from St Georges Cove to Harbour Cove and Hawkers Cove. Walk from Padstow to St Georges Cove in about 10 minutes for great views across the estuary. Harbour Cove is just further along the coast. The walk out to the headland provides the most stunning views of the estuary including Daymer Bay, Rock and up the estuary to the old Iron Bridge which is part of the Camel Trail. Padstow is connected via a ferry service to the village of Rock.

Travel:

Newquay is the nearest airport, 9.4 miles from Padstow.

Although you can walk into Padstow and to the local beaches from Sprindrift we assume that you will arrive by car and highly recommend having a car to fully enjoy this beautiful region.

Distances:

Padstow harbour is a 10 minute walk from the house with some of the many beaches a further 5-10 minutes walk. There is a large Tesco store within a 1 minute drive of the house, on the approach road to Padstow.

Further Details:

Key attractions include the National Lobster Hatchery, The Camel Trail and Prideaux Place.

Surfing-North Cornwall has several good surfing beaches.

Eating out-Whatever your favourite food, the Padstow area offers an exciting choice of places to eat, at any time of the year. Intimate and family restaurants, cafes and bistros rub shoulders with vibrant tapas bars, cosy tearooms and the warmth of welcoming pubs. Relax and dine alfresco at the harbourside cafes offering regional and international cuisine or enjoy delicious homemade pasties and traditional fish and chips. Soak up the hustle and bustle of harbour life, then dine on locally caught fish, lobster, crab and seafood, for which Padstow is so well known - accompanied by a wide variety of vegetables and produce grown nearby. Padstow's culinary reputation is renowned.

To avoid disappointment check out a selection of restaurants that can be booked ahead of time.

Boat Trips-A variety of boat trips available from Padstow Harbour.

Crabbing-cheap and very entertaining way to spend the afternoon, regardless of your age. Padstow is a working harbour and you are not advised to crab from any of the slipways or steps that have boats working from them e.g. the ferry slip.

Churches-Padstow's is the second largest in Cornwall and has recently been restored. St Enodoc, once buried in the sand, is unique and has stunning views across the estuary.

Cycling-Eighteen miles of the disused Padstow to Waterloo railway line have been turned into a cycle track and walkway. Known as The Camel Trail, after the River Camel that it follows. You can hire bikes on the harbour.

Fishing-Sea angling from the cliffs and from boats. You need to get a fishing permit from either Padstow Angling Centre or Padstow Harbour office before you can fish. Although a free permit, it is a requirement.

Fun Parks-The nearest fun park to Padstow is Crealy, between Padstow, Wadebridge and Newquay.
