The house is located just off the High Street and close to the Market Place in Upper Buxton. You don't need a car as it is an ideal spot to enjoy the local delights of Buxton including the Opera House, Pavilion Gardens, the Devonshire Dome and Go Ape. It is 10 minute walk to the Buxton Train Station where you can catch an hourly service to Manchester Piccadilly Station. You can use the local bus service that goes from the Market Place to explore surrounding towns and attraction including Ashbourne, Bakewell and Chatsworth. A county public transport map is available. In the house there is a well stocked, hand made wood country style kitchen with marble work tops, original York stone floor and farmhouse dining table and 6 chairs. (2 spare in the pantry and a higher chair for toddlers) Just off the kitchen is a separate utility with washing machine and dishwasher. The house has 4 bedrooms over 2 floors, three double (one with bunkbeds) and one single. There are two bathrooms and two WC's. The house like many in Buxton only has a small rear yard but the lovely pavilions gardens is a less than 2 minute walk away. At the park children can use the playground or ride the Parks miniature train and there is plenty of space for your picnic blankets or a hot drink at the Pavilion Gardens Cafe. Residents have use of free Broadband with Wi-Fi. There is a TV with an in built DVD player in Bedroom 2 and TV, with free view and separate DVD in the lounge. There is no allocated parking space at the house but there is plenty of street parking opposite the house and in surrounding streets.
House in Buxton, Derbyshire, England - Town Centre, with all amenities within a few minutes walk of the house
About dharl ltd
This is our first holiday home in Buxton. We have visited many self-catering properties in the UK and abroad and we have tried to combine what makes for a cosy house with all the practical things you need to make your stay easy. We have set a standard price for all year round which reflects good value for families as I hate to see prices go through the roof on school holidays. Those without children you get the flexibility of your own house at a price comparable to local bed and breakfasts.
dharl ltd purchased this House in 2014
Why dharl ltd chose Buxton
Buxton has all the amenities you need to make for a fantastic holiday or short break. It provides a great spot for enjoying everything the surrounding Peak District has to offer but plenty to do on your door step.
What makes this House unique
The locality of the house means that there is something to meet all needs and tastes on your doorstep from theatre, museums, walking to caving and pampering at the Spa, tram, train and bus rides. The house is great for sharing with friends or families. We have tried to include everything you need so you can focus on an enjoyable break.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Unsuitable for the over 70 year olds. We fled.
If you are infirm in anyway give this one a miss.
Caroline sorry to see your very negative comments. Not sure age is prohibitive we have plenty of older guests that stay with us. However if you had made we aware either before your booking or before your arrival one of the party had significant mobility issues i would have advised you before your arrival that our property was not suitable and would have advised you to cancel the booking on these grounds. The house was built in the late 1880;s so has steep stairs to both floors compared to a modern property and the house has a step to get in the front door and one out of the back. We do not have a ground floor bathroom and the only walk in shower is on the 2nd floor, the kitchen floor are the original stone flags so uneven, the property is not wheelchair or walking frame friendly, points i would have openly shared with you if you had made me aware. I would agree with you that our property is definitely not ideal if you have significant mobility issues.Walking around Buxton as a whole you will encounter steep hills so may also need to take this into consideration if making a visit this spa town.
Conveniently situated with lots of potential but rather tired.
The house is conveniently situated in Buxton and accessible for walks, shops and eating out without having to use the car which was good as finding a parking space wasn’t always easy. The house is well equipped and the beds comfortable. However, we found the fabric and furnishings and general state of the house somewhat tired, rather dusty and in need of some care and attention. Some of the fittings in our bathroom needed attention and there were sticky marks on the wall. It’s a pity as these issues detracted from what has the potential to be a lovely property.
Very clean, easy access to town.
Issue with front door, could not get key to open it, but we coped.
Bench collapsed , hope I don’t lose deposit.
Overall great time was had. Thank you . We have left some house keys, have they by any chance been found??
hi i am glad you enjoyed your stay with us.
i was not made aware of an issue with the front door even though we did correspond regarding the kitchen bench which i informed you at the time of your stay i would not deduct your deposit. The guests before and after your stay have not reported an issue with the front door and i and our cleaner have got in fine using the key. so you may have been trying to access using the wrong key or the bottom lock?
i will ask cleaner re keys she usually lets me know if things are left and i will contact you directly.
Very stylish house. Lots of lovely features.
Slightly disappointed. Some bulbs missing, one towel per person. Incomplete instructions for central heating. Kitchen bakeware and cookery utensils were extremely good, however. Beds comfy, showers fine, good location. Also, given the numbers of electronic devices people use these days, we think extension leads in all bedrooms would be nice .
Many thanks for your comments Madaline and sorry to note you were slightly disappointed with your stay. We do try and be very clear on what guests can expect through realistic photographs, clear before arrival instructions, signposting to a comprehensive house folder in the kitchen with detailed operating instructions on everything from the heating to the hairdryer and local area information. It would have been helpful if you had contacted me during your stay and i could have had the opportunity to assist at the time. All guests are given our contact number and e mail contact and encouraged to contact us if they have any questions. We do try and check that all light bulbs are working after each guest however as light bulbs can expire at any time we always leave a number of spare light bulbs for guests to replace themselves in such incidences in the pantry. We do provide a general hand towel in the bathroom, tea towels and one large towel for each guest which for a 2 or 3 night stay would not be unreasonable. If guests require additional towels we can make these available if asked. There are comprehensive instructions including the manufacturers handbook for operating the heating in the guest book in the kitchen and summary instructions in the cupboard where the boiler is sited. As it has been very hot recently the heating had been turned off, which we have made guests aware of but the boiler is very simple to operate and the heating can easily be turned back on along with two fires, one in the front room and the other in the kitchen. If any guest has difficulties we are more than willing to explain things verbally or pop in to sort something out if guests let us know. To provide flexibility for guests on their arrival times we do not currently offer a meet and greet service on arrival but we are more than willing to offer this for guests so we can give a personal guide to the property and we will amend our pre arrival information to reflect this option in the future. There are between 4 and 8 electric plug sockets in each bedroom so hopefully that should satisfy most people's electric needs!!
Nice characterful house
Property was as described and very well equipped. Lovely location in the centre of buxton. Plenty of on street parking. Only hripe would be the Living space was a bit cramped for 5 adults and a toddler however good sized bedrooms. Could have done with some extra towels. That said we had a great holiday and enjoyed our stay.
Great location and we were comfortable in the house. Enjoyed the weekend there.
