Carisbrooke is a spacious, luxuriously refurbished, modern semi-detached Edwardian home with front and back gardens set in a quiet residential road in Seaview village.

It is less than 5 minutes walk to the beaches, esplanade, shops and Yacht Club.

A few steps take you into the ground floor where there are two large sitting rooms with sofas, chairs & TVs with DVD, to allow children to be independent of their parents if they choose. There is a music system for radio (cassettes) and deck for vinyl records:a collection of LPs is alongside. Similarly,there are various DVDs of mainstream movies and TV shows to watch too.

The highlight, however, is the large, sun-filled kitchen and dining area which can comfortably sit 12. A radio & dartboard are provided. There is easy access to the sun terrace from the dining area. A back door allows entry without using the front steps: helpful for the elderly & small children. The utility room has Bosch equipment to allow any laundry to be handled during your stay. There is a washing line in the garden.

Upstairs are 2 twin rooms, both with new beds,mattresses and sidelights in 2015 and 2017 respectively & a double room also with a new mattress. These are serviced by a bathroom with basin, WC, power shower & a second bathroom with basin, WC, bath plus power shower. New blinds were fitted in 2015.

The 4th, Master bedroom has great sea views of The Solent and its own en suite bathroom with bath, basin and power shower. There is plenty of clothes space within the rooms and in the corridor too.

Pets may be accepted on request.

Belinda has been going to Seaview for her holidays for about 50 years: she and Jonathan bought Carisbrooke so that they and their children could enjoy wonderful seaside holidays together.

We have always enjoyed socializing, so the spacious kitchen-dining area is ideal for meeting up with our friends, the children's friends or just with the family.

Of course, you do not always wish to go to the beach: the garden is a real suntrap all day long.

Now that the children are grown up it seems a good idea to allow others to enjoy the same experiences as they have - whatever their age, because the house is for infants & Grandparents too.

We wanted to make Seaview a central part of our lives as we had had such wonderful memories all through our lives, as children and as parents too.

Why Belinda Dickins chose Isle of Wight

Seaview developed in the 19th century as another fashionable Victorian watering hole - it had a pier for a long time, up to the 1950s.

It has a variety of beaches all with different characteristics. The village itself still has a number of shops, including a post office, with the famous Seaview Hotel at its centre.

Carisbrooke is in the heart of the village, so it's easy to get to the shops, the beaches & the Yacht Club where we all learned to sail. The Isle of Wight Sports Club is just 50m away. It has a pool, health club & tennis court. Check for temporary membership.

Ryde Road is a cul de sac, so traffic is light yet right by the main road out of the village. It is a very secure environment for children and the elderly. So, you can be as quiet or as social as you want. If you have 2 cars you can park one in the off-street space provided.

The house is extremely spacious with all the rooms of a large size. Guests are amazed at how large and well-appointed our home is.To make it even better we have put in 3 new beds and blinds in 3 of the rooms too. We have upgraded interior and exterior lighting and fitted a key safe.

What makes this house unique

Carisbrooke is one of very few homes available with such a large kitchen-dining area: it is the centre of the house and opens out onto a sun terrace with its own dining area and heaters to take the chill off some summer evenings.

Families particularly like the house because it has two separate but very comfortable sitting rooms - ideal for children to chill out away from their parents or for two groups to watch different TVs.

Upstairs 3 bathrooms means no one need wait long to bathe. Important after a day at the beach.

In short, there is a lot of space for everyone to enjoy their holiday their own way.

Notes:
Arrival/Departure: we prefer Guests to leave by 11am & to arrive from 2pm. We may ask that the Housekeeper cleans before your departure; they may be finishing when you arrive. We would prefer if they did their work when you are not there, of course. Outside: In the garden shed are 2 sun loungers & cushions for them. Additionally, there are cushions for the front and back of the 8 seats on the sun terrace. A sun parasol, kept in the shed, fits into the centre of the garden table. There is also a traditional barbecue requiring charcoal. Drying rack in the utility room as well as traditional washing line in the garden. House will be cleaned weekly & linen changed too. Rubbish is collected weekly (Monday a.m): to be placed in secured bags on the pavement in a black bin;check the timetable - different types of rubbish are collected on alternate Mondays in different bins. Other: Extensive fitted cupboard space in upstairs corridor. Vacuum cleaner & fan heater under stairs

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in this beautiful family home. It was ideal for our family due to the lovely large dining, kitchen area. Perfect for strolls along the beach at Seaview.

Special interest holidays:

Rock festivals: Carisbrooke is an ideal base both for The Isle of Wight Rock Festival (in mid June:check out the website....and Bestival (which is in mid September: again, check the dates).

Cowes Regatta:is 25 minutes by RIB to the harbour/pontoon & 30 minutes by car.

Coast/Beach:

Just 3 minutes away are the Duver beach & the Esplanade: in summer this overlooks the famous Sea View Mermaids & the One Design wooden dinghies. Out to sea is the No Man's Land Fort. Pub, hotel & eateries are nearby.

Children will love Quay Rocks - 4 minutes - with its great crabbing pools.

Further along are perhaps the best & sandiest beaches at Seagrove Bay (6 minutes walk), then the award-winning, spectacular Priory Bay (10 minutes - or leave the car at Seagrove Bay).

Travel:

You can reach Seaview village from a number of ferry ports: the most favourable is the WightLink crossing from Portsmouth to Fishbourne: we are 15 minutes drive from there. You can also take the Red Funnel service to Cowes (30 minutes drive), or the Lymington to Yarmouth ferry (45 minutes drive).

Foot passengers can travel on the car ferries & a frequent catamaran from Portsmouth Harbour (station) to Ryde Pierhead or Esplanade. Taxis should be booked ahead: it's just 10 minutes to the village.

Distances:

Bembridge 3 miles (12 minutes): harbour with boat hire, good local shops

Ryde:3 miles (10 minutes) shops, bowling, ice skating, nightclub.

Osborne House 10 miles (25 mins): stately home of Queen Victoria

Cowes: 12 miles (30 minutes): famous harbour & interesting quirky shops.

Further Details:

Seaview Hotel has a front terrace, cosy back bar in the evening, fine dining & a good bar food menu.

The Old Fort pub: on the Esplanade, it is a busy, vibrant pub with great Solent views.

Dobson's, the newsagents, is also the post office where you can get cash.

Lily's is a coffee shop and The Seaview Bistro is a local resataurant - with live music.

There is one small grocery store in the High Street (Galley's) but a Tesco Extra at Westridge (10minutes) and large Co-op in Ryde should account for most needs.

The Boat House, Seaview Duver: good pub/diner 5 minutes walk from the village along the Duver road.

Priory Bay Hotel (****): tennis, 6 hole golf course, fine dining & bar.

Dan's Kitchen & Gander's on opposite sides of St Helens Green (10 minutes drive): small local restaurants with developing reputations.

Bembridge has a harbour with fresh fish shop on the pontoon, some lovely local shops and a number of restaurants/pubs to check out: The Pilot Boat Inn is popular & friendly; try the Crab & Lobster down by the Lifeboat Station just out of the village, or The Beach Hut which is, as it sounds, right overlooking the beach and open from Spring to Autumn.

Seaview Wildlife Encounter: great day out for children, just past the Duver - c12 minutes walk for adults - animal encounters with meerkats, otters, wallabies etc.

Puckpool Park: tennis, crazy golf & café. Again, good for children of all ages.

Robin Hill is a 25 minute drive:adventure park for Children.

Brading Roman Villa: just 20 minutes away (towards Sandown) and this fine visitor experience is fascinating for its depiction of Roman life.

For other eating experiences try The Hut at Colwell Bay, Salties for fish & chips in Yarmouth, or for gourmets The Hambrough down in Ventnor.

3 night stays include w/ends are priced at 70% of the weekly rate: bank holiday/premium dates may be more; w/day breaks should be 4 nts not 3.

All lets include a charge of £65 for cleaning.
£200 bond needed on payment of balance: returned once the inventory has been checked.
The balance payment is due 30 days before arrival.
Cancellation after deposit has been paid up to 30 days before the arrival date requires a 50% settlement of the total rental.
£35/person/night if more than 8 staying. Dogs maybe allowed on a case by case basis.



Changeover Day:
Guests are expected to vacate on Fridays by 1100; arrivals should expect to have access by 1600 on Friday. However,we can be flexible:please ask.
A weekend rental would mean departure by 1100 on Monday.


Notes on prices:
We may offer special deals at certain times of the year or for longer periods. Please ask.

Note weekend/short 3 night breaks are generally 70% of the weekly rate. These may be less on weekdays: again, please ask.

We will look fora 4 nts minimum in high season: certainly 4 weekday nts

We will add c£40 to the price for cleaning on departure, depending on numbers staying.

We do accept longer rentals than,say, two weeks: prices will be quoted on application.
