About the property

Log Cabin near the South Devon Coast Set in Farm Land with a double and a twin bedroom

The log cabin is set in its garden surrounded by lawn and sheltered by trees and hedges. It overlooks an unspoilt valley of pasture and woodland.

The building is entirely of solid pine,the varnished wood giving the.accommodation a welcoming atmosphere. All electric heating keeps the interior warm even in wintry weather. The shower room has underfloor heating and a heated towel rail.

A galley style kitchen while compact has a combination oven/grill/microwave, a slimline dishwasher and a large fridge and freezer..

The spacious living is furnished with two feather filled sofas, a TV and a dining table and chairs. It overlooks a typical devon valley of pasture and woodland. Outside there is a deck with BBQ. The garden is entirely surrounded by stone wall and fencing.

About Tony Allen

Sarah and I met while working on charter yachts in the Caribbean. 31 years ago, we bought Lower Merrifield in South Devon and eventually settled down here with our two sons and two dogs. The family loves the open air life here, enjoying tennis, cricket, rugby, golf, boating, swimming, horse riding and sometimes just sitting in the garden with a glass of something cool.

I designed this log cabin to be comfortable accommodation for young families as well as older people who will find it warm, bright and peaceful . The location has fine fine views of the surrounding Devon farmland. The deck, sheltered by trees, enjoys the sun from breakfast time to sundown.

What makes this cabin unique

The Log Cabin is within easy reach of Kingsbridge, Salcombe, Totnes and Dartmouth. Nearby there is a choice of beaches to suit all ages and abilities.There are splendid walks along the South West Coastal path or on Dartmoor. in the surrounding villages there are pubs where good food is served, and some good beers brewed in small local breweries.

Notes on accommodation: Snug and cosy, the cabin's Norwegian origins show in the friendliness and warmth of the solid pine construction. The timber's natural glow adds to the sense of comfort and well being. Even when the weather is grey, inside, the light has a welcoming quality. When the sun is shining, throw open the doors and let the outdoors in. Outside: Sundeck and garden area with outside picnic table and a gas BBQ, and a bench and some outdoor chairs. Utility Room: The compact utility room holds a washer and tumble dryer and a warmed linen cupboard. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bedlinen and bath towels are provided, please bring your own beach towels. There will be a couple of tea towels and an oven cloth in the kitchen. We clean the rooms before guests arrive and offer a change of linen half way through a two week stay.

Comfortable, warm, beautiful location

The log cabin was wonderful, it was comfortable, warm and very cozy.

The views around the cabin are lovely, we took our dog and he loved running around the area, the owners are not far from the cabin but you don't get disturbed.

I would go down again with a few friends in the summer, the only thing was the reception on our phones that didn't work, but then again why do you need to be on the phone when you have everything around you.

Would recommend.

There are beaches to suit everyone from toddler to serious surfer within 20 minutes drive. Slapton Sands is the nearest beach just over two miles away, streching to the village of Torcross. Refreshments and ice creams are sold in the carparks and from local shops. The popular beaches are watched by RNLI lifeguards during the holiday season. Some beaches do not allow dogs during the holiday season but there are a good number where dogs are welcome.


The Log Cabin is situated amongst farmland, accessed along the famous Devon lanes. A car is essential unless you are passionate walkers or cyclists.

Totnes mainline rail station is 8 miles.

Exeter airport is 45 miles.

Plymouth ferry terminal is 25miles

There are buses between Dartmouth and Kingsbridge that stop near Slapton.


Slapton is 1.5 miles away.

Kingsbridge, Dartmouth and Totnes are about 10 miles away.

There are many wonderful beaches with a 10 mile radius.

Great walking on Dartmoor or along the South West Coastal footpath.

There are spectacular walks along the coastline and on Dartmoor

Good pubs in all the villages nearby. Local beers and excellent food are served in many, most are children and dog friendly.

The nearby towns have all the major supermarkets most of whom will deliver an internet order.

There are also excellent local bakeries, butchers and grocers.

Village shops nearby keep a wide range of fresh, frozen and preserved foods.

Please email me your booking enquiry through this website. When we have agreed on dates and rental fee I ask for a payment of 50% to confirm. I prefer a BACS transfer direct to my bank account. Pay by slow cheque if you wish. When the funds have cleared I will confirm your booking. The balance plus a £100 security deposit will be due 6 weeks before the start of your holiday. I will return the deposit, less any agreed expenses, using electronic transfer within 7 days of the end of your holiday.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is Friday during holiday periods. Alternative starting days or shorter breaks can be arranged during the less busy times of the year. Please arrive after 1500 and make sure you are ready to leave by 1000.

Notes on prices:
Note that there is NO extra charge for heating, please keep that in mind when comparing prices with other properties.
For an extra £25 each your first dog is welcome, more dogs are £10 each
Email to arrange shorter breaks which are priced by arrangement.
