Apple Tree Cottage is a Yorkshire Dales stone cottage, recently restored and decorated. The cottage sleeps 4, in two double bedrooms, and has been lovingly refurbished with attractive furnishings. Apple Tree Cottage is charming and quirky, and has all mod cons, such as dishwasher, washer/dryer and freezer. Situated in a tiny hamlet on a wooded hillside with lovely views, it is surrounded by Swaledale scenery, only five miles from Richmond and Reeth. The cottage has a light and airy feel, with a sunny dining area overlooking the "Green" at the front. You can also enjoy sitting outside at the front of the cottage in complete peace and quiet. Walks from the door. A wonderful cottage for a lovely holiday in Swaledale. Sleeps 4. Very sorry, but we don't accept smoking or pets. Free WiFi.

Apple Tree Cottage has several special qualities. Surrounded by varied and dramatic scenery in a beautiful, side valley off Swaledale, it is away from traffic and you can enjoy utter peace and quiet. Yet it isn't isolated, as it's part of a cluster of five cottages, only four miles from the ancient town of Richmond, and a similar distance from the Swaledale tourist centre of Reeth. Right on the doorstep there is splendid scenery, many varied walks, wildlife, cycling.. The cottage forms part of a quirky cluster of old stone buildings with an interesting history. Inside, it is warm and cosy and has everything you need for a comfortable stay.

What makes this cottage unique

This cottage is a home from home with all the facilities needed for an easy, relaxing trip away. As we often stay at the cottage ourselves, you should find everything you need. You will find tea and coffee, milk, oil, condiments, herbs and spices, and there will be an initial supply of logs etc should you wish to light the stove.

The dining area is surrounded on three sides with large windows, which open to let in the fresh air, and there is a lovely spot outside to enjoy a glass of wine on summer evenings.

We have tried to make the cottage functional as well as beautiful and the large open air porch and store provides you with space to 'de-robe' and store the things you don't want to take inside.

Fab week in the dales

Appletree cottage was an absolute treat to spend a week in. It was warm,cosy and incredibly peaceful. The kitchen had the latest appliances and the rest of the cottage was well maintained and comfortable- It was nice to have Naomi's personal touches,ie. books,paintings etc for us to enjoy. The local pub at Dunholme served good pub food and they were very friendly. Plenty of superb walks in the area and York is just over an hour away. We would definitely recommend this cottage to family and friends. Thank you Naomi and Stephen from Di and Ian from Shrewsbury.

A lovely cottage with good facilities in a fine, quiet location

This was an excellent choice for enjoying Swaledale. The cottage was of a high standard: very clean and well maintained; nicely decorated and furnished with a mixture of old an new; cosy and warm to come back to after autumnal walks; enjoyable to spend time in. It had everything we could want: a modern and well kitted kitchen, bright warm sitting room; comfy bed and cosy bedroom; good shower/bath; washing machine and tumble dryer (very useful for cleaning and drying kit after a wet walk); very helpful guides and books about Swaledale and walking there.

The location was very quiet and there is a good walk around that part of the Dale starting right from the doorstep. It is not far to drive to either Reeth or Richmond (nice scenic journeys) and it was easy to explore the rest of the Dale from there. There is a good selection of walks to do. We recommend using the local "Little White Bus" for long walks along the valley. For example, we parked at Gunnerside, caught the bus to Keld and did a nice long walk back to the car via Thwaite (excellent tea shop) Muker and Ivelet. (Note, the bus only goes along the main valley road and doesn't stop near Marske).

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and have no hesitation in recommending it as an excellent base for exploring Swalwdale and enjoying its peace and quiet.

You're right about bus services: I'd just add that, although it's a 2km walk back to the cottage, bus drivers of both Dalesbus and Little White Bus will stop on request at the junction of the A road and the lane to Marske. I'll add this info, plus winter bus timetables, to the cottage information folder. So glad you had a good holiday, and thank you again.

Nice house in a lovely spot

The house is very nicely decorated and fully equipped. Everything you need is available, even a dishwasher and a washing machine. And the fireplace is prepared and ready to light a cozy fire. You can start directly from the house nice walking tours. We liked it very much and we will definitely be going one more time.

The cottage is in a very peaceful and quiet place in Swaledale on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. There is excellent hill-walking, cycling and bird-watching. There are lovely walks from the doorstep: the immediate surroundings are a mix of woods, meadows, valleys, rivers and streams, open moorland, and limestone scenery with cliffs.
