Bungalow in Fort Augustus, Scottish Highlands, Scotland - Peaceful Location Ideal for Exploring the Interior, and the East and West Coasts of Scotland

History of Pine Tops: Our parents bought the acre plot in 1992 because of the outstanding views of the Glen, and built Pine Tops. We are on an old forestry road about 2 miles out of Fort Augustus village and Loch Ness, but close enough for all amenities. Behind us are fields where sheep and cattle graze in summer, and hills in the distance which light up in the evening sun. No clutter of city or village dwellings here! We are ideal for exploring the east and west coasts of Scotland.

Facilities: This property have Wi-Fi Connection It is spacious. It has 3 bedrooms and sleeps up to 6 people and is pet friendly. There are 3 sets of patio doors giving access to the lawns. The property is well insulated and has oil fired central heating in all rooms. Our drinking water comes from a bore hole which is more than 100ft deep. We are not connected to the main sewage but have our own septic tank instead. Because of this regretfully we cannot accept children still in nappies.

Some outstanding features: Pine Tops is a comfortable home but here are some things which may be of particular interest. The master bedroom is huge. It has 5ft double bed with patio door access to the lawns. It has a large ensuite, with toilet and a large shower space. The 2nd bedroom has a 5ft double bed. The 3rd bedroom has two single beds. A large dining area, and a spacious lounge. The multi-fuel stove gives an added feeling of cosiness. The initial supply of wood, kindling, coal are free. Outside are lawns all around the property with lots of room for children's games. There are flower beds plant containers and a BBQ. In season you are welcome to help yourself to the variety of fruit growing in the gardens.

About Nas Latif

I retired from professional life and live with my family in our main home in Cambridge. We try spend some family breaks at Pine Tops. Most of my childhood was spent living in different countries, and the love of travel has never left me. Nowadays I go off with my rucksack when I can. Some trips last several months. So far I have visited about 45 countries. My other interests include history, sailing ( I hope to put one of my cruisers into Loch Ness), motorbiking, and learning languages. I can manage about 4 so far.

Why Nas Latif chose Scottish Highlands & Islands

My parents found this spot after searching different parts of the UK. They lived in a mobile home during the initial construction stages. My mother had suffered a stroke and they moved into Pine Tops as soon as the walls were up, but continued to build it around themselves. They were both in their mid 70's at the time.

What makes this bungalow unique

We all lead busy lives. We like the space of Pine Tops as well as the peace and just unwinding with a glass of wine. Watching the sun come up, and the beautiful sunsets against the heather clad hills are priceless. For those more active Pine Tops is an ideal base for all the different things to do in the area.

Morning Nas

Your mum and dad's former home was just right and in a great location for my wife and I to celebrate our 33rd wedding anniversary. Are new dog Alfie loved roaming the garden and we had are daughter and grandson to visit.

The location couldn't have been better giving the opportunity to visit the Isle of Sky, Cairngorm, Anoch Mor and of course a boat ride on Nessie's back. And we couldn't have had better weather for the time of year.

Steve was more than helpful with the small problem with the plumbing. Thank him on our behalf

Awesome!!

This property is beautiful and spacious yet cosy and homely. We have been staying in holiday rentals for years and this was by far the best equipped property we've stayed in. There was no detail overlooked, from wash powder to milk in the fridge. We absolutely loved it. The location is perfect. It was nice to take a step back and slow down for a week. Steve was incredibly helpful and welcoming and a font of knowledge about everything from days out to places to eat. I cannot recommend this property enough. We absolutely loved it!!

Very good

Lovely comfortable house in a wonderful setting!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Pine Tops the house was extremely warm, spacious, clean and comfortable we had everything we needed. The surrounding countryside is fab and there is plenty of walking straight from the door, Steve the next door neighbour was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the area and gave us plenty of tips to fill our days.

Nas the owner was extremely accommodating when we asked to take five dogs who had an absolute ball running riot in the woodland and splashing around in the plentiful waterfalls they arrived home absolutely exhausted each day! Thank you for letting us bring them!

We have no hesitation in recommending this accommodation and will certainly book again the next time we visit the highlands!

Special interest holidays:

Walks from the house to pine forests and River Oich. South Loch Ness Trail ( 26 miles, waymarked). Munroes. Climbing in Cairngorms. Great Glen cycle way passes Fort Augustus. Cycle hire. Mountain biking trails. Kayaking incl. white water.Sea and river fishing. Quad-biking, clay pigeon shooting, archery at Ardverikie Estate ( location for 'Monach of the Glen' TV series). Steam trains from Fort William in summer. Cruises on Loch Ness. There is a Tourist Information in Fort Augustus which has details of many other activities.

Coast/Beach:

There are some sandy beaches of the east coast more than a hour by car, but the water may bit cold at times. West of Scotland is famous for its rugged coastline with bays and inlets. Ferries to other Scottish Islands from various points. A small car ferry still runs in summer from Glensheil to Skye.

Travel:

A car is essential for this holiday. The nearest airport is Inverness ( about 1 hour by car). Car hire offices at the airport. There are airport bus connections to Inverness. Mainline train stations at Fort William and Inverness ( about 45 mins by car, but in opposite directions). Intercity buses from Glasgow pass through Fort Augustus.

Distances:

Fort Augustus is about 5 mins by car. Inverness/Fort William about 45 mins each by car. Glencoe about an hour.

Further Details:

In Fort Augustus there is a garage, petrol station, small supermarkets, chemist, doctor's surgery, Tourist Information, ATM's. A good selection of pubs and restaurants on canalside where you can watch ocean going boats going through the flight of locks. We recommend the New Neuk Restaurant for home-made pastries and cakes. Run by a family friend. Other activities are listed above but you can also distilleries in the region, or the site of Calloden Battlefield and Urquhart Castle which are all within easy reach by car.

Notes on accommodation: Pine Tops is ideal for relaxing and recharging your batteries. Our fresh water comes from our own deep bore-hole. When you arrive my neighbour Steve will come over and welcome you, and show you how the various things in the bungalow work. He is an artist and a dog lover, and is more than happy to suggest places to visit. Outside: Ample parking for several cars. The lawns around the property provide lots of room for children's games. There are flower beds, plant containers and a BBQ. In season you are welcome to help yourself to the variety of fruit growing in the gardens. We may be able to store mountain bikes but this has to be agreed beforehand. Utility Room: Washing machine ( initial soap included). Boiler for central heating. Tumble dryer. Drinking water filter system. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Domestic cleaning on change-overs, and bed linen and towels included. Please let us know if you have allergies to feather duvets/pillows. Other: Oil central heating. Full length mirror in hall. Low level electric switches throughout. Extra-wide doors in all rooms.
