Thorpe is a detached, contemporary, 5 bedroom coastal house with stunning views to the sea and a short walk to the beach and town. This 1930's house was extensively modernized in 2008 (as featured on BBC1 Homes programme) to provide luxury accommodation throughout. A sunken hot tub in the front decking enjoys the best views of Woolacombe beach. Thorpe is equipped with high speed 40Mb Unlimited broadband.

We now offer shorter bookings for 3 days + out of school holidays.

About Chris and Liz Jones

We live near Bath in England, have two kids, ran a Telecom business for 25 years (now sold), met in 1980 and have finally realized our dream of a fabulous coastal holiday home to enjoy in Woolacombe England (ref p8157836) and a Villa in Crete (ref p8155180).

Why Chris and Liz Jones chose North Devon

Detached houses rarely come on the market in Woolacombe so when Thorpe appeared we snapped it up!

The location and views were the primary reasons for our decision. Thorpe had only been owned by two families since it was built in the late 1920's. Although rather tired we felt it had great potential so set about a complete redevelopment of the property. BBC1 featured Thorpe in their TV series about redeveloping houses.

What makes this house unique

Thorpe ticks all the boxes for us! Stunning views over Woolacombe's 3Km blue flag golden sandy beach yet only a short walk to the town centre.

A real family home that accommodates up to 10 people (sorry, no pets & non-smoking!) Thorpe is a great place to unwind and relax. Amazing walks from your door step, pubs and restaurants nearby, a few minutes stroll to the beach and even the UKs oldest nightclub (The Marisco 1967) in walking distance! A fabulous place to enjoy all year round.

We maintain Thorpe to a high level of decor and are delighted that our guests respect and enjoy it as a family home. It is not a party venue as the maximum occupancy is for 10 people. It is not suitable for under 5's (except babies) as there are many steps and a high level of decor maintained.

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: Sorry, no pets and non-smoking property. Thorpe has decking to the front that has a drop of 3ft so may not be ideal for really young kids (under 5 as a guide). We have rented it for a few years now and have been delighted how people respect and enjoy our family home - it's not a place for hen & stag weekends or a venue for parties! Maximum occupancy is 10 people. Outside: Gas BBQ, Hot Tub for 6 people, Large decking area, Garden & Garage - ideal for storing surfing equipment. Utility Room: Second Fridge/freezer, tumble drier, washing machine, belfast sink. There is a shower off this room that's ideal to use when you come off the beach. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Thorpe is prepared by our brilliant housekeepers who live locally. We supply towels and linen and maintain the hot tub. Usual check out time is 10am, check in time is 3pm. Other: Large entrance room with ample storage for outdoor gear which can be effectively dried in the boiler room.

Fantastic house

This house is stunning with beautiful views over Woolacombe beach. We had a lovely week with extended family including 2 elderly mothers. The hot tub was great and there was even wet suits and body boards which we used. Well equipped for cooking. Lovely location with great walks from the door along the coast in either direction and lots of places in the area to visit/things to do. We hope to be back!

Fantastic in every way

We have just had the most wonderful weekend at Thorpe celebrating my husbands 60th birthday. The property is fantastically equipped with everything you could possible think off. We made full use of everything and even cooked a meal using the Aga.

The hot tub was put to full use and we even managed to sit out on the decking (not bad for February).

We cannot rate this property highly enough and hopefully we will get the opportunity to stay again at a later date.

Wonderful Woolacombe...

Our second stay in Thorpe...and just as great!

The views are outstanding from the house and deck (and hot tub!) you never tire of them whatever the weather or the time of day. It's a few minutes walk to the beach or into Woolacombe town...and lovely walks to Mortehoe.

The house is perfect, beautifully appointed with lovely bathrooms. So relaxing - we wanted to live there and never come home!

Amazing holiday home

Having just returned from a fabulous week in this wonderful holiday home I cannot stop thinking about returning. As stated in previous reviews the house is furnished and equipped to an extremely high standard and everything you need is within. The short walk to the beach and shops/restaurants is great and so space for 3 cars to park ideal for us. As soon as we arrived we didn't want to leave and I would absolutely recommend trying to book for your stay. Could not fault it. I usually go abroad each year but I'm now eager to book longer in Woolacombe.

Booking Notes:
We require a £500 damage deposit to secure the booking (refunded 7 days after your stay) and full payment 30 days before your holiday. We have refunded virtually every damage deposit in full to date as people really look after our house. The £500 deposit secures your booking so is not refundable if you wish to cancel unless we are able to re-let the booking dates.

In peak school holidays Thorpe is available for weekly bookings. We also offer 3+ day breaks at other times of the year.

Changeover Day:
In peak school holidays Thorpe is available for weekly bookings - Saturday-Saturday. We also offer 3+ day breaks at other times of the year.

Notes on prices:
Please see our rates for weekly bookings (sorry, no discounts available as we believe the prices are realistic for a property of this quality and location).

For 3 day breaks we offer a 30% discount on the weekly rate, 20% discount for 4 day breaks and 10% for 5 day breaks.
