During peak season, you will find an amusement park complete with a classic array of games and rides for all ages! Also, featured at the boardwalk every Thursday night is “Fireworks by the Sea” where locals and tourists come together to see the sky light up over the ocean! Around the corner is Canal Drive which will take you to Freeman Park for those off-roaders and happy campers. Native to this area is a variety of wildlife scenes such as the sand dunes, sea grasses and of course the ocean itself. Freeman Park is a great spot to drive out your 4x4 and park beachfront for the day! For fishing and cruising needs, be sure to check out Carl Winner’s Party Boat also located nearby.
The Carolina Beach Lake is also nearby, hosting the Farmer’s Market every Saturday, May thru September, and free outdoor movie screenings every Sunday! A public playground is featured in addition to a track surrounding the lake and paddleboats to ride!
Kure Beach is located just 15 miles south of Wilmington, just beyond Carolina Beach and north of Fort Fisher. It is home to a variety of charming sights and activities for the whole family! The Kure Beach Fishing Pier is famously known as one of the oldest piers on the Atlantic coast. Just a few steps from the pier you will find a variety of nearby shops and restaurants loved by tourists and locals alike. Kids will enjoy the nearby pirate ship playground at the Ocean Front Park and Pavilion! Farther down the island lies the Aquarium at Fort Fisher whose recent exhibits include animatronic dinosaurs as well as an exotic butterfly arboretum which can be seen in the spring. Many aquatic exhibits are available year-round. More seasoned travelers may be interested in a walk on the quarter-mile long trail at the Fort Fisher State Historic Site featuring cannons and monuments from the epic Civil War grounds, complete with descriptive exhibit placards and visitor center. Active beach-goers are encouraged to check out the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area trail along the marsh to view the natural beauty of the area.
