About Andrew Brown
I am born and bred in Dorset and was one of the first qualified farriers in this area. I am still working and also have a small holding with horses, sheep and goats. Horses are my passion and I still ride and drive my ponies regularly. i enjoy a game of tennis at the weekend. My other love is cooking and there is a wealth of local produce in this area.
Andrew Brown purchased this House in 2003
Why Andrew Brown chose Poole
Although Pickwick Cottage is small it has incredible charm and character and I could not resist it. Everything is on the doorstep yet once inside -it is like stepping back in time- though all mod cons are there too. There are so many things to do in this area yet is is so nice to get back to Pickwick and enjoy the view from the terrace off the bedroom and relax. Although by the seaside, its a location for all seasons as one can head off to walk/cycle in the New Forest or Purbecks or just walk along to Upton Country House.

Superb bolt hole
We've visited Poole several times and each stay has varied in quality pf accommodation. You can imagine our delight when we opened the door to this bijou Victorian cottage situated in a very smart location. The house had a welcoming feel and it was clean, bright and airy. If I had one comment to make about the overall experience, I would say that in line with the building, the access stairs to the bedrooms were a little bit challenging. That said; there was parking with this property, a small courtyard, and a spacious balcony from the main bedroom. I don't think we'll bother staying anywhere else when we visit Poole, especially having received a welcome pack such as that provided by the owners; it was first-class and quite the best we've ever had. Thank you so much for our stay which we thoroughly enjoyed.
A truly lovely cottage in a fabulous location!
We couldn’t have felt more instantly at home when we walked through the door of Pickwick Cottage. Finished to a very high standard and with everything we could have needed, the cottage was really comfortable and spotlessly clean. We enjoyed lazy mornings on the first floor terrace, and cool evenings in the little courtyard. We were visiting for a wedding at Guildhall/Hotel Du Vin so the location couldn’t have been better! Short walk to beautiful Poole Quay too. We would highly recommend a stay here!
Comfortable & Charming Cottage
Great little cottage in maybe the best location in Poole.
Great stay in well-equipped quirky space
My parents, husband and I enjoyed ourselves staying in Pickwick Cottage, it was clean, comfortable and well-located, walkable from the coach station, round the corner from the supermarket and close to Poole museum and the quay. Check-in was a breeze and the welcome package was a delight. Thanks for a great stay, very memorable and happy!
Fabulous stay in cute cottage oozing character
We loved staying in this cottage which oozes character and is in a great location in the centre of old town Poole just a few minutes walk from Poole key. The house was light,
airy, immaculate and well kitted out. Breakfast on the terrace leading off the main bedroom was a definite highlight! Communication with the host was prompt and extremely helpful. A 5 star stay!
Perfect for our short break
Very nice property, suited us perfectly as a couple for a mini break. Well looked after, clean and tidy, with a nicely appointed kitchen, and owners provided some essentials/treats for us too. Great location for pubs/restaurants in the local area too.
So pleased that you enjoyed your stay.
Thank you for your kind review- we aim to please 😊
Old Town Poole is full of history and a very lively area with lots going on on the quayside.
Boat trips to Brownsea Island and warhead are very close by as is the ferry to France and the Channel Islands.
There is a huge variety of restaurants close by, particularly fish restaurants but many others and several Gastropubs.
it is only a short drive to the chain ferry at Sandbanks to cross over to the Isle of Purbeck and it is possible to cycle there from the cottage.
There are lots of attractions for small children but we ask guests to be aware that the cottage has two spiral staircases and is not suitable for very young children or the infirm.
Older children love the staircases and especially like to "hang out " in the top room and watch TV or DVD.
