About Susan McAteer
We bought the house in 2004. It had no central heating and required extensive upgrading. It has been a labour of love.
Susan McAteer purchased this Chateau / Country House in 2004
Why Susan McAteer chose County Carlow
House History - Lakeen House is of Georgian origins and was constructed for the Fitzwilliam family in 1756. The house was reputedly used as a training ground for the domestic staff of Coollatin House, the main home of the then then Earl of Fitzwilliam. Lakeen House, similar in many features to Coolatin house, was known as the 'Second House' and whilst grand has a more country-house feel than the main house, now unoccupied, sitting in the grounds of Coolattin Golf course. Its unique appeal is in its homeliness despite its beauty, size and grandeur.
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
The house allows guests to go back in time. There are no neighbors and visits can have a glimpse of what life must have been like in a by-gone era. A perfect destination to retreat from life and unwind.

Travel: Car hire is essential. From Dublin take either the N81, N11or M9 depending on which part of Dublin you are in. All routes are approximately 1.5 hours in total. From Tullow take the road marked Shillelagh and continue for appromimately 8 miles passing the Fleece pub (at about 5 miles)on the right, and though Cookenna at about 6.5. A mile or so after you will come to a dangerous bend. The entrance to the house is on the left at the end of the bend and is marked by two large, white posts.
